Reim and his sister, Tir, are slaves to a mighty earl in tenth-century Norway.Their existence is a bitter and harsh one, with little respite from the toil and pain that pervades each day. But the children remember happier times in Ireland where they lived as Patric and Sunnuva-before the Vikings warriors raided their village and captured them. Proud and strong in spirit, Reim and Tir live for the day they can return to their homeland. But as days pass into months, their chances of escape seen very slim indeed. This gripping novel will transport the reader back in time with its rich details of life in another age.
The first in a series of five books about a viking family and the people around them. The first two follow the story seen through the Irish slaves. A great and honest read of a time quite long ago, but still portrayed with lessons valid today.
P. S.: Podle GR vyšly i další díly série (tahle kodovka spojuje I. a II. díl), docela rád bych si je přečetl :)
A decent little book for what it is. More like 3.5-4 stars. This version has been translated from Norwegian to English which made the overall feel of the book a little empty. Quite happy to be only the 112th person to have rated this book though, haha.
I remember reading this as a kid, found it in a gift shop while visiting Newfoundland. Really liked it and would've liked to read the sequels. It was printed on really crappy paper.
