This is another fine addition to the "Everything..." cooking library. Ms. Whetzel has delivered a great reference for ice cream, with many, many recipes that look like they will deliver quality taste just as is, and there is plenty of room to "tweak" later, after you've made a batch or so, and maybe want to stretch the tastebuds a little.

There is so much information in this book, from history, to ingredients, to how tos, to recipes. And there are appendices to help find ingredients or equipment you may need. This is certainly a book scheduled for my library, and if you love ice cream, you will probably want it, too! Thank you Ms. Whetzel and the Everything Cooking Library.

I made two recipes from this book. The first was coffee ice cream. It tasted okay, but the texture was much too icy. It used sweetened condensed milk and hardly any cream. It also gave me stomach upset. Next I tried the decadent chocolate ice cream recipe. The whole time I was making it, I thought the amounts did not seem like they would make enough. It was supposed to yield 1 quart and, sure enough... I barely got 2 1/2 cups! I haven't churned it yet but I can't judge the flavor of this recipe since I had to make another 1/2 batch from another recipe to add to this one just to get enough mixture to fill my ice cream machine. I won't be making more recipes from this book.

I saw this and grabbed! I can't have much dairy, and wanted to learn to make my own frozen treats.

This book has something for everyone, from Mudslide ice cream flavors to basil-mint granita to desserts made with some kind of frozen treat (including how to make your own fried ice cream).

I haven't given it the final test--actually making a recipe--but the front matter is greatly helpful what equipment to use (including alternatives) and other matters, everything is written clearly and in an engaging style, and the pictures are to die for!

Didn't get a chance to try any of the recipes before returning this to the library, but I do want to check it out again and give some of them a try. Lots of variety, all very do-able recipes with not a lot of ingredients or hard to find items. Tempting!
