'Timeless Values' is a book of personal principals with quotations culled from early texts to modern writers. Whatever their age these quotations are all relevant to today's world and the problems therein.
Some are simple, such as Robert Louis Stevenson's 'The best things are nearest - breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of Right just before you. Do not grasp at the stars, but do life's plain common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweetest things in life' while others are more profound. Henri Frederic Amiel, for instance, says, 'A person who floats with the current, who does not guide themselves according to higher principles, who has no ideal, no convictions - such a person is ... a thing moved, instead of a living and moving being - an echo, not a voice ...'
All provide food for thought and all are superbly illustrated by well chosen works of art.

I found this book on a shelf in an Airbnb. It's really beautifully put together and the many inspiring quotes really spoke to me.

Timeless Values is a collection of sayings: epigrams, aphorisms, or simply pithy comments made by famous people through time. They vary from the ancient Greeks right through to modern rock musicians, and incorporate several different cultures. All have been selected for their continuing relevance to life today, and most people would probably recognise about three quarters of the names (although possibly a different three quarters in each case).
Each page has one quotation and its source, along with a detail from a photograph or painting. The words are usually set in the midst of the image, or overlaid so that the art work complements them rather than proving a distraction. A variety of fonts and sizes are used, which is useful for those who may find reading difficult but still appreciate the written word. At no time are the words difficult to differentiate, as either the colours are muted, or the design takes account of where the attention will be. The paper used is glossy and of a good weight. It is the sort of book to pause over and enjoy, before turning a page.
This solid, chunky little book is about 5“ square. It is beautifully presented and lovely to hold with frail hands. Perhaps it is possible to tell from the image that the gold leaf base of the cover is artificially aged, and has a most attractive sheen.
Books like this seem to be produced for the gift market, and sure enough I am sending this to a dear Goodreads friend who no longer finds it easy to get online. Often I am dismissive of pretty gift books, but sometimes one finds a book which feels as if a bit more thought has been put into its production. This is is such a one.

Mediocre as far as "quote" books go, only took a couple from it for my journal. Def get it at a library, no need to own this one (in my case anyway, but I am a quote book snob).
