There were some really cute stories in this book. A couple were boring, but the rest were very entertaining. I enjoyed reading this book, which didn't take me too long to finish. My friend Lisa from Kmart bought me this book for Christmas, because she knew how much I loved reading and my dogs. I understand the appeal of reading Chicken Soup for the Soul books now that I know that they all aren't religious books. For some reason, I thought they were religious. Where they religious books at one point? This book was a nice break from my usual fantasy YA reads. I might pick up another bowl now!
U LOVED this charming collection of vignettes about these amazing dogs. They are smarter, more inventive, and love others more than most people give them credit for. A must for all dog lovers.
I have been reading the chicken soup for the dog lovers soul for a while but this time I tried the “I can’t believe my dog did that “ and it’s so cute sad funny all of the above!! I loved it!! Any time I get a few minutes I sit a read a couple of stories!!!
Delightful, enlightening, humorous, at times melancholy and bittersweet, but well worth the read. Thoroughly enjoyed the read and found it uplifting and wonderful to have a book to read during some downtime.
Some of these crazy dog stories were great, and others just fell flat for me. Maybe I was just expecting too much, since I just recently read “Marley and Me”, which was fantastic. Still, if you’ve got a family pooch, you’ll probably really like this anthology.
"We really do create our own holidays with the anticipation, enthusiasms, and the magic put into them."
I DARE a person who has ever owned a dog in their life to read this and not find one story that reminds them of their dog. Or even a friend's dog. They're so special and precious and it's amazing to see that sometimes, just like people, dogs years and countries apart, might had the same quirks. Or a story that tugs right at your heartstrings because it reminds you of something happy, but sad.
For me, there were two. There's a story about a border collie who as decided to herd his owner's cat around. And that's adorable. And hilarious. But I also own a husky and a new young boy-cat and they are the best friends you have ever see. I have other dogs. And I have other cats. But they only want each other. They play together, eat together, sleep together. BFFs for life.
That story made me smile because it made me look at what I have and be grateful to have it now.
There's another story about a dog who wants to lay around with a piece of fruit. As a young girl I had a Lab who, whenever we tried to grow watermelons, would pull them off the vine and play with them until we had to take them away for rotting.
That story made me smile because it made me remember the long, good years I had with a dog that's not longer with me.
And what's written here is true: The camaraderie of animal lovers is wonderful.
101 stories about canines ans some of their wonderfully carzy and fun antics. My sister gave this book to my mom for Christmas. It is nice to be able to share reading materials with other members of my family.Animal lovers, especially dog lovers, will enjoy these short(usually 2 or 3 pages)stories. While they may not toatlly match your own experiences , there are bound to be some that will remind you of your own beloved pets.I enjoyed all of the stories(well maybe 1 or 2 I could have done without-and don't ask me which ones).Ranging from laugh out loud to heartwarming, there should be something to appeal for everyone.
This would be a great book to have if you have to wait in a waiting room, reading in bed before going to sleep, or even for a bathroom break. The stories are short aqnd go quick.Of course it is also good to just sit down and consume the book in one sitting.
It was fine until I got to the story about the dog who died under the Christmas tree and NO ONE CARED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really? Your 9 year old beloved dog dies, and you find him dead under the tree on Christmas morning. Then you decide to distract the kids, and haul him out to the bed of the pick up truck where he'll freeze rock solid and deal with it TOMORROW?? All the time lying to the kids and acting like nothing happened? I would be a bucket of tears. There is no way I could hide that. Crappy dog owners, just enjoying their "merriment" as the book put it. What is wrong with you??!?!?!?!?!?!?!
It isn't funny or amusing. It's awful. Especially in a book for dog lovers. Ruined the whole book, and I don't plan on finishing it.
I received this book as a gift from my Grandma Sassy last Christmas, the grandma Sassy for whom my dog is named. While possibly unbelievable to those who have never owned a dog, these short stories are completely relate-able for anyone who has! There were times I sniffled, times I laughed, and times I nodded my head thinking, “Yup, been there!” It’s been a long time since I read a Chicken Soup for the Soul book. I was surprised by the content of a few stories that used some vulgar language and were not particularly heart-warming. One in particular had me shaking my head and just thinking, “How terrible!” But, all in all, it was a quick, fun read, perfect for a quiet weekend get-away in the woods with just me and Sassy.
Some of these stories were touching, others were hilarious, but they were all about humans love for canines and their dog's love for them. My favorite is the funny names people came up with for their dogs. In my opinion, the winners were Nuisance, Yainex, and Dammit Dog.
I didn't finish this one and it took me forever to get to where I actually stopped. (Page 255) It doesn't hold my attention and I found it difficult to read this when I kept thinking about all the other amazing books I could be reading instead of sleeping through this one. 2 stars and not 1 because the dogs were cute.
I love all of the Chicken Soup books that relate to dogs, and this was no exception. It is advertised as a collection of humorous accounts of our canine companions, and while I wouldn't say there were a whole lot that made me laugh out loud, they were an enjoyable read while exercising at the gym.
If you like or love the chicken soup books than you will like this one too. I can not imagine a dog lover not liking this book. It has it all the tears, laughs and astonishment, you feel when stories of animals are told.
