Dollycas’s Thoughts

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book and thankfully NetGalley shortened that time just a bit. I love the Garcia sisters. especially Tessa! Just because she is dead doesn’t mean she can’t help catch a killer. This time Maddy is the only one that can see and hear her because she is the sister that is in trouble.

Again these sisters rally together, this time to find out who is framing Maddy for murder. Maddy is the newest member of the Vineyard police force but when a prisoner is murdered on her watch, with her gun, she is quickly suspended until her name is cleared. Maddy’s sister just happens to be married to the head of the Vineyard’s Police Department. He begs the girls to let the police handle the situation but they just can’t keep from getting right in the middle of the investigation.

Lipperman has created wonderful characters. Maddy, Lainey, Kate, Deena and Tessa have that true sister relationship. They don’t always get along or agree with each other but when one of them is in trouble they come together, one even from her “eternal peace” to help. I love love the little digs they send each other and Tessa is hilarious. Maddy filters some of her words as she relays to the others what was said.

She has also written a very complex mystery, framing a cop isn’t easy. The story is full of so many twists and turns some even get turned inside out. It was fun following the clues. There were more than a few surprises. The investigation even brings in an investigator from out of town that ends up renting a room from Maddie….

This story is soooooo goooooood!!!!!!

We continue to learn more and more about these sisters. I am really excited for what happens next. What or who will bring Tessa back for another visit? Only the author knows but I can’t wait to find out!!

I remember liking the first book in this series, it was an intriguing premise and the setting and characters were interesting. This one didn't hold my interest - the plot was ridiculous & it was obvious how it would develop from the second chapter. I skimmed to the end, skipping large chunks, to see if I was right about the ending - I was.

I recently read Heard It Through the Grapevine, and could not wait to read the second in the Dead Sister Talking series: Jailhouse Glock. I was not disappointed. The wonderfully sassy sister, Tessa, who has died, returns to her sister Maddy’s aid in this installment of the series. Tessa shows herself to Maddy at work one evening and announces she is there to help her out of trouble. (At that point her sister didn’t know there was any problem.) Maddy is a widow, and a rookie cop. On a holiday weekend, she is the only one working in the small town police station, when she is set up for the murder of a drunk in jail under her watch. The Garcia sisters also include Lainey, Deena, and Kate. Together, the five sisters circle the wagons to exonerate Maddy.

This loud, loving, joking family shares in each other’s joys, pains, and challenges. Joining together over food and drinks, they are a formidable team. No one who knew Tessa in life would have envisioned her as the guardian angel of the family. That’s part of the fun in this series. Since I come from a large, loud, and loving family, myself, I truly enjoy the interaction of the sisters. Just like my own family, where we may joke and tease each other, for the sisters it’s a united front against the rest of the world. Lipperman has given the characters laugh out loud dialogue, and enjoyable personalities. Each of the sisters is a strong, independent woman with their own place in their small town world. This is a well-paced book, and the plot provides many twists and turns as you try to guess who is the murderer.

I work full time, and I’m a wife, mother, and grandmother. There is a lot going on throughout my busy days. Reading this series provides a sublime escape, and I highly recommend it for everyone. One of my tests of a good story is “Just One More Chapter”. You all have done it, when you know you should turn out the light and go to sleep, but you mutter to yourself “just one more chapter”, and continue reading. Jailhouse Glock passed this test with flying colors.

This story will definitely stand on its own, but if you can get both books, read Heard It Through the Grapevine first. Lainey’s story will provide additional background for this one. I’m eagerly waiting the next book in the series.

Maddie Castillo, is a widow, the oldest of five sisters, a single mother and a cop in the town of Grapevine, Texas. Stuck on night duty Maddie is being frames when an obnoxious and offensive drunk dies while Maddie is on watch. All of her sisters band together to help clear Maddie and find the real killer. That's right all of her sisters, including Tessa, her dead sister. As the criminal element in Grapevine swells Maddie, Tessa, Deena, Kate and Laine watch each other's backs to keep one another safe as the figure out who set up Maddie and what could possibly have been hidden by the dead man valuable enough to kill for. Can they find the answer before a killer turns their sights on them?

The humor between the sisters keep the story on the lighter side. The fact that the deceased sister staying around to interact with the others is what drew me to the series. A unique and intriguing concept. Lizbeth Lipperman plans out her plots to keep the story line on target. Dynamic characters, interesting plots and humorous dialog come together to form a story that you will not want to put down until the very last page is completed. My rating is 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.

The Dead Sister Talking Mysteries series by Lizbeth Lipperman merges contemporary, small town mystery with a touch of romance and a twist of the paranormal. Jailhouse Glock, the second installment, features rookie cop and single mom Maddy Castillo (nee Garcia), elaborately framed for the murder of a drunken lech in the station lock up. With the evidence mounting against her, Maddy turns to her sisters for help to unravel the conspiracy between an impersonator, a murdered witness and a stolen necklace, to clear her name.

Maddy is oldest of five sisters, one of whom, Lainey, was featured in book one, Heard It Through the Grapevine and another, Tessa, who despite being dead, is never far away when her siblings are in trouble. Each 'Garcia girl' differs from one another but share a tight, sisterly bond, and a penchant for getting into trouble. Their dynamic is believable and entertaining and I particularly enjoyed their banter, especially Tessa's unfiltered wit.

I thought the plot of Jailhouse Glock was interesting and well thought out with a complexity often missing from cosy mysteries. It takes some careful planning, and a little luck, to so thoroughly frame Maddy as a corrupt cop. Despite the warnings from Vineyard's police chief, who is also Maddy's brother in law, the girls have few qualms about interfering in the investigation, and side with Maddy as she sets out to find the real killer, following a trail that reveals greed, betrayal and more bodies, one of which is very nearly her own.

This was such a fun read with appealing characters, a cleverly crafted mystery and I'm looking forward to reading the next one.

This cozy mystery was pretty good. Kept me guessing on a lot of it. Did figure out a few clues. Yea Me!
The plot was good. Characters were fun for the most part. Clean read. Romance of the story was weak.

Maddy was alone at the police station with the prisoners on Thanksgiving. When things went really wrong for her and the two prisoners. Her dead sister Tessa shows up to help her.

This is the second book in the Dead Sister Talking. Last time only Lainey saw her. This time it is Maddy's turn.

Maddy is arrested for murdering her prisoner. Everyone knows she did not do it, but the evidence is stacked against her. Colt had to suspend her from the force with pay while they look into it. He tells Maddy and all her sisters to stay away from the case.

A expensive lawyer contacts Maddy he wants to take her case for the publicity at a fraction of the cost. A ex-cop wants to rent Maddy's upstairs rooms for a month while he is in town on a case.

Lots of action, humor, as they try and figure out who the dead guy was.

I like Maddy and her sisters. They are close and care for each other. You want things to work out for all of them. I wonder if each of the four sisters will have the chance to see Tessa in the future. I would read more in this series.

The setting is Grapevine, Texas

The pacing is pretty fast. The story is always moving forward. Did not put the book down till I finished reading it.

I was given this ebook to read for purpose of giving honest review of it by Netgalley.

As you can tell by the title, this is a light-hearted mystery. It’s the sequel to “Heard it Through the Grapevine” to carry through with the rock and roll titles. These are the first two in the Dead Sister Talking Mystery series. The dead sister is Tessa, naughty and hilarious, but helpful for solving crimes as she can go where others can’t and hear things they don’t.
Tessa has four sisters who are still alive. Maddy, the main character in this novel, is a sheriff’s deputy, but this isn’t a serious role, as no one can ever imagine her shooting anyone. She is widowed and the mother of Jessie, the daughter she loves fiercely.
Another sister, Lainey, is married to Sheriff Colt Winslow, a man to whom Tessa used to be hitched. Some cute complications arise from this.
The sisters, especially the ghost Tessa who appears randomly, provide laughs along the way. The interactions between Maddy and the other law officers are well developed and fun to follow.
Maddy is being framed and it’s an elaborate setup, one that will be hard for Colt, who firmly believes in her innocence, to expose. It appears that she killed a prisoner in her care. She was the only one in the jailhouse and her own gun was used. There’s even video of Maddy shooting the prisoners, one of whom dies.
The stakes get higher as the plot gets deeper. Maddy fears that not only herself but also her daughter is in danger from some hardened criminals if she can’t figure out how to clear herself and figure out just what is happening.

Jailhouse Glock Vineyard Police Station is invaded by outsiders and 2 prisoners are shot. All evidence points to Maddy Garica, a rookie police officer who was in charge of the office. Maddy receives a phone call and she sees a picture of her daughter, Jessie with a gun pointed at her head. Maddy is told to due what she is ordered to do or her daughter will be shot. A cash deposit of $ 25,000 dollars appears in Maddy's bank account. There is evidence of a piece of an expensive jewlery that is missing.
The 6 Garica sister's are investigating in order to clear one of their own from criminal charges. Tessa who is dead appears to Maddy as comes to help her sister in time of trouble. Maddy strapped for cash rents out her upstairs rooms for enough money for lawyer's retainer. Jake is a questionable character and Maddy wonders if she did the right thing by renting to him. This book has enough twists and turns to keep the readers interest and is difficult to decide who are good or bad guys until the end. There are some subplots that are left dangling for the next book. This I the first time I have read this series; it won't be the last.

Jailhouse Glock is the second in the series, but I had no problem because while details from the first book are brought up, they don't really impact J.G.

This series seems to take turns focusing on one of the 5 sisters, in this case, Maddy. She is a new cop, a long widowed mother of 10 year old Jessie. Maddy is set up for the murder of a jail inmate and the story is about her and her sisters (including her dead sister's ghost)teaming up to find the real killer.

There's lots of twists and turns and while you're not sure where it's going to go next, it's easy to follow. The characters are likable, but could use a bit more development with more detail and personality. I'm definitely looking forward to the next sisters' story (I have the first on hold at my library so I can catch up on Lainey's story) and hope Maddy gets some more page time in the next book as well.

I received a copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

In this second "Dead Sister Talking Mystery" featuring the Garcia sisters (four living, one deceased), Maddy, the oldest sister who is a rookie cop in Vineyard, Texas, gets framed for the murder of a drunken man on her watch. Wisecracking Tessa, the aforementioned dead sister whose ghost had appeared to sister Lainey in the previous book, "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" now appears only to Maddy in an effort to help the sisters clear Maddy's name, despite warnings from Sheriff Colt Winslow (now married to Lainey as well as Maddy's boss) to butt out! Enjoyable read with a lot of humor. Fans of Janet Evanovich (particularly the Lizzy and Diesel books) may like this book and the series. Looking forward to the next one wondering which sister Tessa will appear to next!

The Garcia sisters are close, although they have very different lives--all except Tessa, who's dead. But her ghost appears when one of the sisters in in trouble, and Maddy is in it deep. A rookie police officer, she's being framed for murdering a prisoner in the jail she's guarding over a holiday weekend. The presence of a former cop, now insurance investigator, complicates matters. Fortunately, justice triumphs, although Tessa doesn't have as much to do in this as she did in the first of this series.

Loved this book! I really enjoy the "Dead Sister Talking" series. A fast-paced page turner, that's funny, but not over the top. There is a bit of swearing and sex, but not very graphic. Looking forward to the next installment. I received my copy in a Good Reads giveaway.
