Cecelia Ahern 2-Book Valentine Collection: PS I Love You, Where Rainbows End

Rate this book
A deliciously romantic set of two of Cecelia Ahern’s best-loved titles, PS I LOVE YOU and WHERE RAINBOWS END

In PS I LOVE YOU, Holly and Gerry were childhood sweethearts, soul mates who should have been together forever, and when the unthinkable happens, Gerry’s death devastates Holly. But as her 30th birthday approaches, Gerry comes back to Holly. He’s left her a bundle of letters, one for each month of the year, guiding Holly in her new life without him, each note signed ‘PS, I love you’.

WHERE RAINBOWS END tells the story of Rosie and Alex, who have stuck by each other through thick and thin. After Alex moves to America, their magical connection remains, but misunderstandings, circumstances and sheer bad luck keep them apart – until now. But will they gamble everything – including their friendship – on true love?

Not all romantic stories go smoothly. Here, Cecilia seemed on purpose to make me heartbroken hundred times. It is because this novel had a mix of stories that were very unique, sentimental, happy, angry, disappointed, comedy, and all mixed together, but mostly was sad.
Where rainbows end, tells about a story between two ideal couples who spent 12 years only to realize that their true life mate is actually in front of their eyes. The two main characters, Alex and Rosie were friends from childhood. Alex was described as a boy that having attention, but silly, but still reliable. He was also very smart, because he became a student with a medical major while Rosie was a beautiful, gentle, and understanding woman, but she was a bit naughty in terms of relationship. Their serious relationship began with Rosie's 18th birthday party, where she was too drunk to remember the situation that she and Alex kissed, and only Alex knew it.

Cecilia developed her story by making Rosie feel very sad and depressed because of her mixed feelings and unable to tell anyone, including Alex, who at that time had to go to college. For some reasons, Rosie could not continue her studies and due to the distance between her and Alex, their relationship was increasingly strained. In a long period of time in the gap of their relationship, these two main characters have their own love stories before they finally realize that their love will eventually meet.

Ricardo Montalban said, “True love doesn’t happen right away; it’s an ever-growing process. It develops after you’ve gone through many ups and downs, when you’ve suffered together, cried together, laughed together.” Anyone who likes novels with romantic genres like this will be made exasperated and touched by the ending of the story. Therefore, I could say that this novel had such a heartwarming moment and charming, very highly recommended to read.

The first I've read and 500 pages slipped by, with movement and plot and characters I cared for, and no one I didn't like apart maybe for Alex's wives. She is described as a modern fairy tale writer and that would be a fair comment. But obviously it does lack depth and too much of that could account for the spread of magical unrealistic thinking that is all too prevalent. But light relief has its place.

The story is about the friendship and love between the best friends - Rosie Dunne and Alex Stewart since they are 5 years old.

Life gets in the way. They have bad timing. Missed opportunities. Their friendship stood the test of time through lots of ups and downs, unspoken feeling towards each other, married and have a family with other people, etc.

I guess sometimes in life eventhough you love each other, it doesn't mean you are going to be together.

They finally find each other when they are 50 years old.

Happy ending? Better late than never? You are supposed to be where you are supposed to be? You decide k.

Absolutely incredible book. Amazing from start to finish. Just the perfect love story with a lot of bumps and rollercoasters in between. I just wish they had of made the end a bit longer, not to spoil anything for anyone. Ps even though the title says this the book I was reading is a 2-book valentine collection, it was Where Rainbows End that I was reading and that this review is for.

Done reading the “where rainbows end” part. Well, the boy-girl friendship is a bit complicated. Can’t deny.

This book was a mixture of emotions. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me angry, it made me sad. It was such a bittersweet book. And I loved every bit of it!

I liked Cecelia's writing. It was light but it still touched the reader's heart. It was capturing and she described things really.... perfectly. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more of this author's work (this was the first book I read by Cecelia). As a debut novel this was pretty amazing.

The plot and the story were great. It was unique and I liked how it wasn't totally revolved around Holly getting a new guy. It was more about Gerry helping Holly move on with her life. It showed that true love never dies and Gerry did love Holly very much! I just wish that there was a sequel to this book. I would like to know what happens to Holly afterwards.

"Where Rainbows End" was a beautiful emotional roller coaster ride. I was totally drowned in the world of Alex and Rosie. And now when I've finished reading the book, it feels I am already missing them.
Bad timing, misunderstandings, and destiny can delay the union of soulmates, but if two people are meant to be, they will unite, even if it takes more than four decades.
There are so many touching moments in the book that moved me to tears. And I loved Rosie's resilience, tenacity and strength. The friendship and love of Rosie and Alex are soulful. I am so glad I read this book and had such a wonderful weekend.
I always thought PS. I love you is my favorite book of Cecelia Ahern, but Where Rainbow Ends is as good as PS. I love you.

Romance is not always my favourite book genre. Anyway, it was well-written and it gave me a vivid description of what was happening to the main character. Also, I could follow and immerse myself in the emotional flow of Holly. How did she feel over the death of her husband? What has she done to break through the sadness and the emptiness after the lost of her beloved one? The words used carried me and led me to her thinkings, her emotions, her world views, and her voices of heart. Overall, it was touching and kinda uplifting. Undoubtedly, life still has to be carried on even though we loss our loved ones. I guess, that is the message wanted to be conveyed via the book.

I absolutely loved this book!
It's balanced perfectly between quirkiness and sadness which is a major factor for me when I read books.
The characters were so relatable and the format in which the book is presented is so unique and different it grasped my attention straight away.
It focuses on the struggles of friendship, marriage, family and love as we grow up and face new obstacles. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

Gentle, romantic love was depicted by a sweet and feminine of the Irish writer. The stories were expressed in subtle and profound emotions of love, making the readers feel like they were caught up in an adventure of love, of recollections and memories. Still, the stories were not too outstanding. In general, they were books worth reading for those who love sweet, romantic stories without grief and excessively sentimental ending.

It was just 'Where Rainbows End' that I read, although I have the other too.

I loved this book. Saw the movie first and didn't realize I had book :) The story was lovely and heartwarming but I loved that it was written as emails, IM's and texts. It was almost as though I had hacked into someone's account and had full access (not that I would, of course lol)

Really did like this and happy to add it to the pile that will be read again.

When I started could not think a book written in "messages to one another" could be interesting..... how wrong was I. Loved this story and nice read, got to know the characters and how their lives unfolded, and never think we are too old for love, change and a new direction in life! xxx
