Hampshire, 1816

Garrick, Lord Westerly, has forbidden the hanging of mistletoe, yet the holiday house party at his country estate sizzles with sensual desire. And though Theodora Southern decided long ago never to marry, she has been enjoying the erotic fantasies that haunt her each nightfantasies featuring her handsome, brooding host….

Since returning from the war, Garrick has been in no mood to celebrate. But suddenly the nightmares that plague him are making way for much more pleasant dreamsdreams in which his childhood friend Theodora is very much a grown woman. The question is, has he fallen in loveor fallen under a wicked spell?

This book ties into Under A Christmas Spell, but the books can be read separately. The hero of Under a New Year's Enchantment has decreed that there be no mistletoe in his home over the holidays. A Waterloo veteran, Garrick, Lord Westerley, still grieves for his fallen comrades. However, his aunt, who is determined that he marry, has organized a house party and invited a number of eligible women.

Among the guests is Garrick's trusted childhood friend Theodora Southern. It's to Theodora that Garrick turns for refuge when he becomes tired of being hunted by his other guests. While renewing their friendship, the two find that they might want more than that--but do they dare risk the warm relationship they enjoy? Will trying to go from friends to lovers pay off, or is it better to back away?

This is a fun blend of hot romance, humor, and holiday customs.

I liked this novella, but don't think it stands alone very well (connected to previous novella, Under a Christmas Spell). The paranormal elements are better dealt with in that first story, although they are in play a bit here in this story. Really liked the heroine, and the opening confrontation scene between her and the hero. Also liked the "past history" shared between the two of them. A nice read with a good holiday flavor.
