Pride and Fire

Rate this book
Paul Talbot, Viscount Leed, is set on avoiding the marriage trap. Though his family has money troubles he won't marry an heiress and dance on her leading strings. He discreetly writes speeches for Parliament, using his words to passionately express others' opinions. Lady Michelle Thomas is a spirited heiress, piqued with the rules of Society which dictate that a woman must be seen and not heard. And if she has opinions on politics or finance? Well, she had best keep them to herself. Sparks fly when she meets Paul and she believes she's found a man interested in more than her face, form and finances. They wed but when Paul refuses her very generous dowry she'll do anything to see her money settled on him, even if it means going to his rival and putting more than his career in jeopardy.

Pride and Fire by Jo Marie DeGioia #2 in her interesting "Dashing Nobles" series. Can be read as a stand alone. A unique storyline but, I had a hard time liking or connecting with the characters. The story does have intrigue, betrayal, suspense, passion, sexually intensive, blackmail, deceit, violence and romance.
Can the H/H come to grip with their inner conflicts, and find healing, forgiveness and their HEA?
There was something difficult to enjoy about the H/H, while both are intelligent, strong-willed, and independent characters, they seem to come off as sad, pathetic people. However, with this said it is an enjoyable read with some twists and turns. Would I read the next installment, yes, I would!
Received for an honest review from Net Galley. However, all opinions and thoughts are my own.

Review Blurb:
I tried with great difficulty to love the story, but found the characters were inconsistent in both behavior and action to what I expected. One minute Michelle is strong-willed and opinionated and the next she is cowering over Paul’s expletives and anger. I do not know that I ever understood Paul’s quick turnaround from keeping Michelle at a distance to claiming her as his.

The characters dialogue, interactions and charged atmosphere along with relatable qualities and individual traits, balancing fluidly, adding depth and diversity, transforming into outstanding personalities. The scenes are abundantly descriptive with colorful details that blend and flow, creating a majestic backdrop that's so rich and lively it feels as though you're part of the story instead of on the sidelines, feeling everything the characters feel. Fabulous job JoMarie, thanks for sharing this awesome little gem with us.

I thoroughly enjoyed this Regency romance with great characters, romance and intrigue. He was a Viscount and never planned to marry since his father had gambled away most everything he could and he had two younger sisters that needed dowries. A year ago he met a woman at a house party he was attracted to, but it scared him and he left without talking to her again. Now he see her again and is very attracted to her. He finally starts to see her and they fall for each other and get married. She has a huge dowry which he refuses. This causes them problems. There are complications, but the ending is great.

I enjoyed "Pride and Fire" by JoMarie DeGioia, this is the first book I have read by the author, looks like this is number two in a series, but can be read as a stand alone.
Paul was intrigued by Michelle when they met about a year ago, but he wouldn't allow himself to get close to her. Michelle actually believed that Paul didn't care for her at all, he gave her cold looks and didn't speak to her.
Paul didn't want to get married or have any entanglements with Michelle, but after a dance or two changed his mind very quickly. It was kind of a surprise, there was chemistry between them, but his mind flipped like a switch.
They are a nice couple, they love and care about each other. Michelle at times comes off as strong and opinionated, which Paul loves, until she questions him. I didn't like that Paul wanted to keep his work secret from her and the state of his finances. There is a betrayal and Paul was almost over the top in his nastiness to Michelle. And for me, he was very close to me losing all respect for him during their separation.
There is a lot of passion and sex scenes, the love scenes are very frequent and passionate rather than steamy.
Good read, I enjoyed the story, I liked Michelle better than I liked Paul most of the time.

What an amazing book 2 in the series. Just as in book 1 it flowed perfectly. There was just the right amount of everything.
