Another fantastic book from Andrea Schwartz. Geared toward home educating mother's, it shares Andrea's insights from her successes and failures. Whether you are new to the idea, submersed, or at the beginning of your journey, this book is for you. It encourages, it empowers, and it reminds us the reason why we do what we do: for the glory of our risen Lord and Saviour. I found many ideas, good direction, and my heart over flowing with encouragement for the task ahead and at hand. I loved that she spoke to all women at different stages, she gives practical advice for the mother with infants/toddlers to prepare for what's ahead, as well as the mom in the midst of schooling, or about to begin with "school" age children. Whether you have a solid education background, or lack, Andrea shows through real life examples the task is not too daunting. It is not only for the home educating mom, it is for the mom who wants to see her child(ren) excel in a Christian education and be an integral part of that. Mom's who are serious about their children's education would find themselves motivated all over again after reading this book.
This book is authored by a home school mom, and is largely a work that shares veteran experiences of years of homeschooling. As a parent who is looking towards the possibility of homeschooling my children, I thought I look into this book more for the practical wisdom rather than a fully orbed Christian worldview of education. The chapters were short, so it was a nightly reading for my wife and I. There were times when we wondered if the book was bragging about how accomplished her kids were, but we get the point that Christians can homeschool their kids in ways that shows success and achievements. I wished there were more practical wisdom the author could have "handed" down to the readers. However, given that there are probably not a lot of books like these, I would recommend it and something that readers can still learn from and reflect about the challenges of homeschooling.
This book was a gift from my parents, and I found it to be encouraging and helpful. It is very similar to The Homeschool Life, which I read in January. The chapters are short and easy to read, especially for busy moms who are grabbing short sections of time here and there. Andrea is a gifted writer and has a witty sense of humor. She has many helpful suggestions for homeschooling parents. If you are thinking of homeschooling or are currently homeschooling, you would probably be encouraged by this book.
