Kira has always hated humans. After all, with her long black tail, topaz eyes, fangs, and claws, Kira isn't exactly human. And now she is the only one of her kind after two human men burn her village down and kill everyone she has ever known in front of her eyes. Kira must learn to trust humans in order to escape a hellish zoo, navigate a maze of a forest, and ultimately, rebuild her devastated village, species, and her life. If she doesn't, she may never find her way home again.
I received a copy of this book as part of a giveaway.
"The Panther/Girl" is a book that is enjoyable for what it is, but has enough problems to make it hard to recommend. There's a large bit of suspension of disbelief to swallow, and this fantasy and science fiction fan choked on it.
Where did the panther tribe learn English? What zoo would make the decisions that were made, even if they were somehow allowed to hold a half human/half panther? What zoo lets an intern sleep on premises? Exactly where does the story take place?
Beneath the logical problems, there are things to like. The two leads are likeable, and develop more than I expected. The writing itself reads quickly and smoothly. The pacing is quick but not breakneck. I'd like the author to keep exploring and keep writing. Next time, look for what plot holes and logic holes there are and try to fill the ones that can be filled, and at least acknowledge and hand wave the ones that can't.
I liked "The Panther/Girl" even though it was a bit half baked. I wonder what a sophomore outing would be like.
This is a story about loss, friendship, growth, and finding your home/place in a world you sometimes feel you don't belong in.
Kira is half panther half human who finds her self trapped in a zoo and the last of her kind. Over a short period of time she comes to know Jack her caretaker at the zoo who finds her intriguing and wants to befriend her. Kira doesn't like humans but as the story progresses she comes to grow up and her opinions change as she comes across different crossroads.
I received this book as a goodreads giveaway. I'm so happy to have been able to read this book. I enjoyed my little adventure with Kira. Michelle has done a good job with her first book and I will be looking forward to watching her grow in her writing. This book is a good read for a young adult that likes a strong female lead and adventure.
