I misunderstood what this book was about initially, because of the title I got the impression that it was about a marriage that was experiencing problems. However, the book was about building your marriage on the rock "Jesus" and the word of God. What I appreciate the most was that the author used bible scriptures to solidify every point he made. I definitely be re-reading this one time and time again.

My favorite marriage book yet! Last year we did the "Marriage on the Rock" seminar with some of our friends and loved it! This book basically recapped the seminar and it was a great reminder of everything we learned!
The book is divided into three sections. The first section covers the four fundamental laws of marriage as outlined in Genesis (priority, pursuit, possession, and purity) The second section talks about the needs and responsibilities of husbands and wives (men need honor, sex, friendship, and domestic support; women need security, affection, open communication, and leadership). The final section of the book covers topics that married couples often find trouble in, like parenting, sex, finances, in-law relationships, blended family dynamics, and communication.
If a husband and wife can only read one book together ever, THIS is the book!

This book was disappointing 😕 While Jimmy Evans makes some helpful points, he is painfully out of touch with today’s climate especially re women. He actually believes they belong “in the home”, women who work are married to men who fail to “lead”, and feminists are angry aggressive women who have issues with their fathers....This guy could not imagine a world with #MeToo or the one with the inflated cost of living/housing/etc in which we live. Readers were also promised content from the female perspective, via wife Karen, but I never saw it.

Wow. This book is truly GOLD for marriages. We’ve been reading this for a while to prepare for marriage. I have thought about different topics discussed in this book nearly everyday. There’s already different parts that I want to go back and reread. We will 100% refer back to this book throughout our marriage!!

Took me a while to get through this. Not for lack of it being a good book...it was difficult for me to process and accept a few principles in it. It doesn’t make the content any less true, just a few things I personally had to confront. Everything in this book is Truth, the way God Himself designed marriage, the differences between man and woman, and how husbands and wives are suppose to treat and honor one another. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in how God actually meant for marriage to look.

This book is phenomenal! I can't say enough about it. I love Jimmy Evans; he is so funny and has a great way of expressing things so you stay interested and really understand the point he is trying to make. This book helped my married tremendously. Read this one! You won't be disappointed!

This is such an awesome book for any couple. It is worth revisiting from time to time too. It's an inspiration to anyone wanting a true life long companion. I wholeheartedly recommend this read for anyone getting married. Bravo.

What we see happening around us is exactly the world that Jimmy Evans points to in his book, I Am David: 10 Lessons in Greatness from Israel’s Most Famous King.
Large segments of America have fallen into chaos, and we wonder how we can–if we can, turn it around.
Certainly, if America is to turn around, this turning away from chaos must begin in the Church.
And Jimmy Evans leads us to a place we can begin.
Evans invites us into the struggle. But the way to first incite change is for each of us to look into the story of King David–the man after God’s heart.
David killed a giant, spent years eluding an enemy who wanted to kill him, became king, sinned, repented, and dealt with the aftermath of sin and his failings as a father.
My favorite part of the book is when Evans discusses the shortcomings of David’s upbringing and how his failure to deal with the pain of his past led to agony later in life.
We, just like David, carry the wounds of our past. Those wounds affect our relationships, our desires, our thoughts and fears, and how susceptible we are to addiction and other sins.
This book is suitable for individuals and groups and contains a study guide and leader guide.

Marriage on the rock does a good job of explaining marriage from a biblical perspective. Though, it is somewhat of an older book, I found many of the topics engaging & interesting.
What are the core base needs of a man vs a woman in a marriage?
How can we use scripture to better understand and live out a marriage God would be pleased with?
What can we do as individuals to prepare our hearts, bodies, and spirits for union with another person?
Jimmy covers many important topics geared towards marriage. There were also a few chapters dedicated to finance, children, and marrying someone who has been married already/has children, which I found interesting.
Overall, this was a solid book on preparing for marriage.

First off let me say that marriage counselors are not perfect. I say this because too many times we expect them to save our marriage or even pick sides. I respect this book and each perspective it offered for both men and women with a biblical backing. Some of these truths are so hard to hear and fathom offering to a spouse. In the chapter on one-sidedness I was bothered by the idea of treating the offending spouse as if Jesus walked into your house. But I recognize my own issue with reacting to how my husband treats me rather than behaving the way I should. This then begins a cycle where we both are living reactively to one another. Someone has to stop the cycle and begin behaving in a loving Christ-like way.

Good book that really reminds me that our lives are a reflection of what is in our hearts. It all starts with God first and the rest will fall into place if we truly trust in the Lord to direct our paths. I really liked it.

Especially when it talks about addiction and cheating spouses and how we, as Christians and God loving people in those relationships, should act. It's such a personal journey for everyone and the spectrum is wide. On this point, I am conflicted and really just leave it to each and their own situation (and lots of prayer).

While a bit stuck in the 1950s, advising women to keep a clean house and nice figure to keep their man coming home, the book does have a great deal of valid advice. Andrea and I read some of it together and I think the timing was good to make some adjustments into the new year. I'll be looking for something a little more current for our next read, more relevant to our reality where the wife is the real breadwinner and the husband takes on many of the around-the-house chores.

This book every married couple or getting married needs to read. So good how Jimmy talks about his marriage and how to understand what it means to live a Godly marriage and keep Christ in it and in the center of it. He explains your priorities and how to do life and marriage God's way and gave you reassurance that you are doing the right things when the world is telling you do it something different. Bible principals for your marriage that last and real-life stuff. So good

Great book that gives easy applicable advice for those who are newly married or have been married for 50 years. This gave me perspective to understand my husband but also to get back to my first love, Jesus. Such a good book. Well written and I would recommend to anyone who is engaged or at any stage in their marriage.

I love this book and I love Jimmy Evans straight to the point teaching. God created us and created marriage. He knows the plan, but most of us don’t. It’s never too late to surrender our lives and marriages to God’s way. It’s working for my husband and I after 36 years.

A great read for engaged, newly wed and married couples! Jimmy does a great job of adding in humor to tough topics that need to be addressed in relationships. He does so with biblical principles and an easy to follow chapter by chapter lay out!

I listened to the audiobook. As I found a few items a bit antiquated (women working at home, etc). The overall premise of the book was very good. I wish I would've found this book 20 years ago to help me understand my husband a bit more!

This seems to be a good book with lots of scripture to back it up. I will be watching the video and reading the book again in a month for our sunday school and we will see how everyone likes it. I love anything that forces my husband and I to focus on our marriage as so many things take our attention off of the most important relationship in our lives aside from our relationship with God.

Had to read this book for a class, and am glad I did! Not a whole lot of new info here, but it is always convicting and helpful and insightful to read not only the importance of fighting for and working on your marriage, but also some well illustrated principles on how to go about it.

We read this book before we got married and then once every couple years do a refresher. SO perfectly laid out to understand how God designed marriage to work. Be teachable, be sacrificial & loving towards your spouse and you'll have a dream marriage. I love how simply this is all put.
