I had a bad interview recently, and as I reviewed my performance, it occurred to me that my conversational skills were lacking. So, I picked up Eight Crucial Skills to Improve Your Conversations by Dale Young because the book description sounded interesting. First, the Apple introduction was fantastic and set the tone for the entire book. Communication is a skill, and it is an important one. Like all things worth doing, it starts with a foundation, and Dale provided many solid points for figuring out exactly how to prepare oneself. This process included organizing and memorizing essential facts. This book is a solid read and an important one. It ranks with one of my favorite books, How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie. I am glad I purchased this book and was able to absorb its wisdom.
Extremely good and readable introduction on speaking and networking. Full of usable, practical tips and tricks, enriched with examples and some theoretical background. A very pleasant and applicable read. I recommend it to whoever wants to improve their communication skills and has little clue where to start. For more "veteran" communicators, this book is anyway a valid and well-written summary of the key points.
