No I am not a 10 year old boy, but, yes I act like one. After seeing a webpage with nothing but horrible endings of choose your own adventures, I called my librarian girlfriend excited at the possibility that they might have a few of these. To the delight of my 10 year old soul they did.

I picked this one first because I taught martial arts for years, and laughed immediately when I saw the Master of Judo was executing a flying sidekick on the cover. Obviously the cover artist had not read the book or ever taken a judo class as there are no flying side kicks in this particular art form.

I was impressed by the amount of actual information included in passing ("you bow to your teacher, or sensei") text and dialogue in the book, and smiled that I was blissfully unaware of this when I was tearing through these series when I was in summer reading club.

My only problem with particular series was that the portrayal of characters of different ethnic origins seemed a bit stereotypical. For instance the Asian character already knows martial arts, the Jamaican characters have dreads and comical accents 'mon. None of it is offensive but the fact that they'd introduce characters to a young audience this way bothered me a bit.

Which adventure do I review, the mundane judo tournament or the adventure protecting a spoiled brat; the journey to the beaches of Jamaica or the streets of Martinique? On second thought, all of the stories are good so I'll leave you to choose your own adventure.

A great Christmas present, I went through and read to all the 12 endings. The best part is that this'll post as another finished book and make Christine very jealous (for reading a choose your own adventure and for finishing a book).

I don't feel like "I" was really a judo master. Not a favorite Choose Your Own Adventure.
