This book was based on real people and events. Although I knew the story of this ancestor, I definitely have more of an appreciation for their trials now. The author did such a good job at building the characters that I felt for them. There was one point in the book I was so frustrated and sickened for what the wife had to deal with that I almost quit reading the book! And I knew that incident was going to happen, but I had really admired and loved this person in the story. Great book! Very well written!
This was a basic book about the journey of the saints from Missouri to SLC. I really enjoyed the book and found out a lot about things that I hadn't heard of before. The main reason that I read the book is because I am related to Charles Shumway (Maiden name = Shumway) and he was the main character in the book. Long book, but easy read with a few tears shed.
This is based on a true story, and although the writing style isn't memorable, the perspective about a family being driven out of their lovely Nauvoo home is really touching.
