In through a dark cool-misted cave she was led and out into an unfamiliar sun. Has it been months? Years? Why is she so far from where she started? Wasnt it only a short walk? These are the questions that Clara must find the answers to. She has found herself in her own land, strange, decayed, empty. Where have they gone, her family, friends, everybody? Most important, who has been left in their place? Perhaps like her surroundings, there remains only a rotted version of civilization, a skewed type of peoples. Only moving forward will reveal these answers. But are they answers she wants?
I just finished the book and, honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about it. I must say that I didn't care for the ending. I'll leave it at that to avoid any spoilers.
The first portion was a little slow and I found myself skimming to move forward. I really enjoyed the final 2/3. There was a lot of excellent character development with the two main characters, which made me care and stay up late to finish it. Did I mention that I didn't care for the ending? I'm hoping that the story will continue because I really like the world that he created and feel like the story is only partially told.
