A fully updated and expanded edition of the acclaimed, bestselling dinosaur field guide
The bestselling Princeton Field Guide to Dinosaurs remains the must-have book for anyone who loves dinosaurs, from amateur enthusiasts to professional paleontologists. Now extensively revised and expanded, this dazzlingly illustrated large-format edition features nearly 100 new dinosaur species and hundreds of new and updated illustrations, bringing readers up to the minute on the latest discoveries and research that are radically transforming what we know about dinosaurs and their world.
Written and illustrated by acclaimed dinosaur expert Gregory Paul, this stunningly beautiful book includes detailed species accounts of all the major dinosaur groups as well as a wealth of breathtaking images—skeletal drawings, “life” studies, scenic views, and other illustrations that depict the full range of dinosaurs, from small feathered creatures to whale-sized supersauropods. Paul’s extensive introduction delves into dinosaur history and biology, the extinction of nonavian dinosaurs, the origin of birds, and the history of dinosaur paleontology, and also gives a taste of what it might be like to travel back in time to the era when dinosaurs roamed the earth.
Gregory Scott Paul is an American freelance researcher, author and illustrator who works in paleontology, and more recently has examined sociology and theology. He is best known for his work and research on theropod dinosaurs and his detailed illustrations, both live and skeletal.
Professionally investigating and restoring dinosaurs for three decades, Paul received an on-screen credit as dinosaur specialist on Jurassic Park and Discovery Channel's When Dinosaurs Roamed America and Dinosaur Planet.
He is the author and illustrator of Predatory Dinosaurs of the World (1988), The Complete Illustrated Guide to Dinosaur Skeletons (1996), Dinosaurs of the Air (2001), The Princeton Field Guide to Dinosaurs (2010), Gregory S. Paul's Dinosaur Coffee Table Book (2010), and editor of The Scientific American Book of Dinosaurs (2000).
Paul's recent research on the interactions of religion and society has received international press and media coverage.
A fantastic encyclopedia with a few egregious errors. Paul presents widely accepted but controversial theories the same way he does narrowly accepted theories that he happens to ascribe to. Examples of this include his million centrosaurus and Chasmosaurus ceratopsians replacing widely accepted genera like Pachyrhinosaurus, Styracosaurus, and Pentaceratops, his acceptance of the theory that torosaurus is an adult triceratops, the splitting of Tyrannosaurus into three genera, and hypothesization that Tyrannosauroids share a close common ancestor with allosauroids. There are some more examples but the point remains. These issues are supported by more and less evidence. There is no problem with making decisions based off of your own opinion. That is unavoidable. The problem comes when it is not clarified that the scientific consensus is against you at that point in time.
With that said, the art is beautiful, the dinosaurs generally very accurate, and there is tons of great information throughout. I enjoyed it a ton.
Dnes sme teda len niekde v polovici cesty ich poznávania.
Palaeontologist Gregory Paul updates his field guide to dinosaurs again, ensuring it remains the largest and most up-to-date collection of skeletal diagrams in print. Read the full review at https://inquisitivebiologist.com/2025...
