I'm a mom, a wife, a teacher, a reader, and a writer. I'm also an lunatic when it comes to the NFL and playing Fantasy football, especially if I don't get my first pick quarterback: Tony Romo. When I'm not at home or work, you can probably catch me on the 15 freeway singing my heart out and dancing away in my car.
Spoiler Free Review 4.5 STARS Genre: YA Romance- Mature YA Series: Book #3 in Double Threat Series
Authentic, Fun, Witty and Savory This book was all those things and then some. Julie Prestsater took the everyday trials of teen life and put it to paper. I fell in love with these characters so much and i cannot wait to read book 4 in the Double Threat series!
It's Junior year for Meg and her crew of friends and they plan to start it off single and ready to mingle. When Meg, Keesha and Steph make a pact to be single and date their junior year i don't think they ever imagined all the drama that would follow. Finding dates should be easy right? WRONG. Especially when your heart is with your ex. Meg thinks she has it in control but she dosen't she is far from in control. And her teenage hormones are telling her that everyday. When things heat up between Meg and Travis things also heat up between Travis and Alex. Case in point:
" Word in the hall is Travis knocked king Alex out, is that true?" -Ms. Gelson "That depends," -Meg "On What?" -Ms Gelson "If Travis is gonna get in trouble." -Meg
Oh, yeah it get's physical in this book and in more ways than one if you catch my drift;) I cannot say much more on the plot without unleashing spoilers. Sorry. But check out one of my fave scenes below. Scene setup: Meg goes to the the school dance with Brody after she agreed to help him win his ex back by making her jealous. When it's time to hit the dance floor he freezes and tells Meg he does not know how to dance. She tells him that they will dance so he needs to follow her lead. This is after they dance:
"That was fucking awesome" -Brody " You are such a liar, you can totally dance" -Meg " I never have before. But watching you helped. Your ass looks amazing when you move." -Brody "Thanks, I think." -Meg " That was totally a compliment. I could have watched it all night. No wonder Alex and Travis are fighting over you." -Brody HAHAHAHAHA!!! I am in geek love with Brody right now!
Thoughts Double Time provided deep belly laughs and three HUUUUGE JAW DROPPERS. One character leaves Meg spent after making a decision that will leave some readers stunned. Then...OH.MY.GOODNESS. The bonus story when they go camping.... It was very emotional. At the end i cried like a baby as one character unloads life changing information on his/her friends. The writing was stellar as always and the humor came in abundance i found myself laughing out loud often. Book #3 also gives us two new characters whom i both loved. The spunky Andi and the nerdy Brody. Both add their own flavor to this already well seasoned set of characters. Meg- We really get to see her growth from freshmen year to junior year. OFF with the kiddie fat and on with the women curves. Meg transforms slowly but surely and her confidence increases. I loved it!!!! Meg proved to be an AWESOME friend too she came through for others when they felt lower than low. Alex- I could not believe him at first... but he came around. I still love you too Alex!lol! Travis- Loves him! Travis also showed some growth i was glad he found happiness. Keesha- Yayyyyy i was very very happy for her. Unfortunately her highs was accompanied by lows. I swear this girl is built "Ford Tough". Steph- Started to come out of that turtle shell she has been living in. Finally! Yayyyyy*claps hands* Josh-Freakin Hilarious. Everytime he spoke he brought laughter. Ben-Hmmmmm.... I honestly don't know what to say i am speechless... I can say this-> I LOVE BEN<3 Brody- This guy was a total geek. But he kept up with Meg thats for sure.*grinning* Andi-Dude, she rocked. And once she put the girls down with some new technology it was on and poppin!
My Ratings Characters- Lovable and Witty Writing Style- Strong and Favorable Plot/Storyline- Solid, Fun, and Genuine Steam Factor- Medium/Moderately Steamy Overall- I Enjoyed it! Read it!!!

In the way of full disclosure I must first state that I may be considered slightly bias when it comes to this review. Not only have I become friends with Julie and think her stuff is amazing, I am actually in the book and I got to read it early. With that said Double Time is EXACTLY what I hoped for for the third installment of this series!
I fell in love with Meggie and Alex in the very early stages of So I'm a Double Threat. There has always been something almost magical about their relationship, even when they are "just friends". In every book they have grown as a couple and as individuals and Double Time didn't let me down.
Double Time starts at the beginning of junior for Meggie and crew. When we last left them Meg was close to something with Travis(don't even get me started on him!)but having had enough drama the girls decide they are going to just be single for the year. Between Dom, Alex, Jon and Travis, Meg, Keesha, and Steph have reached their limit. They want to enjoy being a junior and playing the field. Only thing is there is two problems with that. One, the field is WAY harder to play then it looks and two, they may or may not be over the boys that have broken their hearts. Through a series of surprise revelations, dating mishaps and unexpected friendship these girls find out you can't always escape the drama, especially when your heart is attached to it.
Really I look at this series as a coming of age series. In every book these girls are challenged in one way or another and have to decide how they should deal with it. Double Time to me really showed the growth of all the characters, but it still maintained that fun feel that dragged me in to begin with. I really loved watching Meg try to navigate singledom all while still being very attached in her heart. And I will admit that Travis grew on me a teeny tiny bit. ;-) Oh and that addition of that Andi character...genius! HEHE
Really just a great story about love, friendship and growing up. Julie outdid herself yet again and I for one can't wait for the 4th part. Bravo Ms. Prestsater!
Read the first three books in two days. Couldn't put them down! Author has a consistent, funny, snarky, cussing voice that is just fabulous and never failed to amuses me. Like a great tear jerking movie, she inserts the moments that make you laugh even when the character is heartbroken. The characters are flawed, make mistakes and grow through the series. Great writer, great story, great series. One of those where I'm going to be depressed when I finish and there's not another to look forward to. Watch this author and buy everything she writes - her humor, strength and pop culture references alone are worth the price of admission. Add her writing and strong story, plus her willingness to give a full, 300+ page story in each novel...she's fantastic and you'll fall in love like I did with the characters, the story and the author.
Why is this book not a tv show?? I absolutely love the story line and characters : ) The new addition of Andy was one of my favorite parts dude....lol Bring on #4
I loved this book! Who am I kidding, I've loved this whole series so far and we've still got more to go! :)
Double Time was about transistion for our fearless group and while they handled it, they were forced to make some tough decisions, were put in positions they weren't expecting and they learned that while sometimes you think the grass might be greener on the other side, what you had might not have been all that bad either. Megan, Keesha and Steph's bid to have a single ladies year might not have panned out exactly as they had expected, but they grew along the way as did Travis, Josh, Jon and Alex and so in the end I think it sets them up for the senior year they have all been dreaming of.
Double Time was exactly what I had hoped it to be and it certainly didn't let me down...it left me wanting part four now! Julie Prestsater has done an amazing job with this series and I know that we are in for a treat when we get to experience senior year with our favorite group!
Loved it! Love seeing all the Crew back together and having some fun while they each continue to grow. This was exact what Double Time should have been. Loved the seeing my favorite teachers from Against The Wall. The new character, Andi was a great addition to the Crew!
I absolutely loved this book! So, so good to see Meggie, Alex, and all their friends again! This was yet another fabulous addition to the Double Threat series!!! Just as with the first two books in the series, this one gets a "DOUBLE" thumbs-up!
Just love this series. Not sure I am an Alex fan yet. I cried when Ben made his announcement. Happy for Travis, Steph and Keesha. Loved Jon coming for a visit. Amy is still a puzzlement. Not sure I could be nice to her. I am excited for next book. How can it be almost over? :(
Third book in the series finds the group Juniors at Carver High . Meg is heartbroken over her break up with Alex . The girls all decide to stay single and have some fun. Meg knows she should go along with the plan but her heart still wants Alex. Enjoy the fun as the lads have other ideas about the girls plans.
I feel like this book in the series tried to do something new but fell short and ended up just being the same as the two before. However, it did cover some important topics and the extra bonus chapter at the end always makes me smile.
Excited to get to the fourth book in the series and then onto 5-8 which I’ve never read so will be something new
Okay it's offical I adore this series. Julie Prestsater does and absolute wonderful job of turning the clocks back and reminding us what highschool was like. The parties, the dating, the drama, the heartbreaks, the highs, and the lows. She brings it all back years later. I seriously how she throws in NKOTB and the mothers are Block Heads. That just cracks me up.
In this book we find the girls deciding that it's time to date during their Junior year. Since their relationships didn't all work out, for different reasons, the end of their sophmore year they feel they need a change. That is to date allot, try to see what options they have, and not get tied down in a relationship. Well even the best of the plans have their flaws.
What they soon realize is that dating isn't as easy as one thinks. That all guys aren't like their friends and ex-boyfriends. Sometimes dating is just plain hard especially when your love is already with someone else.
We see all the characers continue to grow and face hardships that they learn to overcome. We see Travis' and Meg's relationship change throughout the book as they try to make their way to a friendship they once had and do so while not hurting one another. We see Alex kind of be a butthead but realize that he made a mistake and makes amends. Also Alex and Meg come to understand that while they may love one another perhaps they do need to live their lives right now and see what someday may bring them even though they love eachother.
Once again this one had hilarious laugh out loud scenes that had me in tears. They had wonderful moments as well, especially with a surprise return. Of coarse there were emotional scenes that had me crying. Ecpecially when we had to say good by to Ben. Even though he was a butthead in the first book he did redeem himself and I hated to see him go, but he had to grow as well and make himself happy. I'm hoping we get to see him or at least hear from him again in the final installment.
I was so happy to see Travis get his happy ending as well. He deserved someone that would give him their heart so he could return the gesture. Of coarse there is Josh, love the guy. He's funny and at the sametime sweet. He just cracks me up.
Looking forward to the final installment. I can't wait to see what Julie brings us. I'm also going to have to read her other series that follow the teachers of Carver High.
“Double Time” (Double Threat #3) by Julie Prestsater 5 out of 5 stars
SLY!!! Calling all single ladies! It’s Single Ladies Year at Carver High! The girls of the Double Threat Crew have decided they need to branch out! Jonathan has moved away leaving Keesha lonely. Dominic and Stephanie have called it quits now that he has graduated. Alex and Meg decided that their long distance relationship was too hard. As they start their junior year, the girls want something new. Having been in serious relationships they want nothing more than to play the field and just date. Sounds easy enough…until it’s not! It’s adventure after adventure or should I say disaster after disaster for each of them!
I liked that Prestsater gave them a chance to see what else was out there. It only serves to validate their feelings for the Double Threat guys and strengthen the bonds between them. It would have been easy to go with the status quo and totally plausible, but that could have made the third book in the series seem stale and lackluster. Instead she breathes new life into an already great series with fresh new experiences and a realistic approach to dating.
I really enjoyed the growing friendship between Meg and Ben in this book. Always one of my favorite characters, it was great to see Ben really become a rock for Meg without any of the normal boy/girl dynamics to throw it off. What blossoms between them is an awesome brother/sister deep friendship that is a nice juxtaposition of her relationships with the girls. I was proud of Ben, along with the rest of the group, for the decisions he made and those decisions further reiterated how smart of a writer Prestsater is. Her books are realistic and the experiences of her characters are true to life.
Once again, I can whole-heartedly recommend this book! Prestsater has her finger on the heartbeat of high school life. It’s a great read for teenagers and adults alike. She has set the bar pretty high and I’m anxiously awaiting their senior year!

Starting her Junior year in high school, Megan and her closest friends have made a pact that they will be single this year and just enjoy it. But you know how it goes… the best laid plans… As the ladies have decided to date the heck out of this school year and live a great year being single toghether, they discover something… it’s not that easy. Dating a bunch of guys and staying unattached is not as easy as it looks.
The biggest question is can Megan really pull this off? Pretending that her heart is not with Alex at Berkeley? Can she really convice herself or anyone else that dating is the best thing for her? What about her friends, can they pull of the single scene with her?
Ultimately, when you give your heart away and don’t get it back, it is always a little harder to covince others of the same.
I absolutely adore this group of friends. They all have such big hearts and an unconditional bond. They know that they are going to be friends for life and no matter what happens with any guy or guys, they know their friendship will last foverver no matter when they get their “someday.”
I love the witty banter in this book and I love that these books are all in a first person perspective. I think it would be a lot harder to hear about Megan’s experiences and what she is thinking from anyone else’s eyes. The only thing I want for Megan and her high school experience is Alex to ride in on his white horse and just be with Megan. But of course, that’s not exactly what happens, but I just think these two are the strongest non-couple I have ever encountered. They just adore the heck out of each other and they deserve their somday.
Another fabulous read by Julie Prestsater. I cannot wait to read about Megan’s Senior Year!
*I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
The past two years have been full of so much drama for Meg including boys and having her heart broken. This year Meg is putting that all behind her and now focusing on being single and doing well with her school work. Now Meg and her friends are aiming to put what happened in their freshman Sophomore year behind them and focus on the year a head. Meg was honestly heartbroken when her and Alex broke up and even though she still loves him she manages to focus on school, her and her best friends have made new friends and are enjoying the life of being single. However as much as they seem to think all of this is a good idea, are they just kidding themselves or do they actually love what life is bringing to them this year.
The thing that Meg is having an issue with is that she still loves Alex and even though she is trying her hardest to forget about him, it's eating away at her. Meg knows that even though her and her friends agreed to have a singles year, they are starting to have doubts.
Honestly I loved reading this book, as soon as I got to the end I wanted to read the next one. Julie Prestsater writes so beautifully, I enjoy reading her work ad love how she manages to connect with her readers. I really do feel for Meg in this book because all she wants is to have fun, but her heart is telling her that she wants Alex. I honestly hope she gets the happy ending that she deserves.
Ok, so I downloaded the first book in this series because it looked like a quick, easy, junk-food for the brain kind of read. I’m far from a teenager, but I still enjoy some good YA drama. I didn’t care for the title and really didn’t think I would care for the book, but I wound up loving it. Or I think it might be more accurate to say that I became so involved with the many unique characters that I fell in love with them. Even though the first book stands on its own and it’s not necessary to read the others in the series, I really wanted to know what became of each of them. I don’t spend money on books very often (I’m too much of a tight wad and there are too many books I can read for free.), but I purchased every book in this series and loved them all. The writer really makes you feel like you are part of their group of friends. I cried with them; I laughed out loud with them (many, many times); I fell in love with each and every one of them.
I do need to say that I would not consider this a teen read. There is a lot of partying and alcohol use at a very young age. The sexual content and bad language is limited, but is still prevalent.
Double Time is book 3 in this series. Megan has just started her junior year of high school and the girls have decided that they are going to be single ladies all year. They want to experience that dating world. They don't want to be tied down. New experiences await them and they are ready to jump in head first. We watch as not only Megan, but all her friends continue to grow and develop into productive members of society. Junior year is filled with dances, parties and even harder classes. But it is also done without Alex by her side. They have decided that it would be best to take a break. The distance has gotten to be to much for them and Alex wants Megan to experience high school and everything that comes with it.
I knew from the cover that Double Time was going to be all about Meg and her growth. Like Meggie, Keesha and Steph have had a few big changes in the romance department and the ladies have decided to avoid relationships and be fun single ladies.
As an adult we know ... nothing is that simple.
All the girls go through the motions of singlehood, even going on some not so awesome dates. I say go through the motions because each of their hearts are elsewhere.
Can you find your true love in high school? Can love endure the miles and temptations?
Megan is single. SINGLE. Omg. Not how I wanted her and Alex but could you blame her? There has been so much that happened in the previous books with drama, infidelity etc that Megan needed to just relax and take time for herself. In this book Megan figures out what she wants all the while being newly single again. Drama cause what's high school without it and laughs. Again I couldn't put it down.
I fell in love with this series from the first book. This story is their Junior year of HS (Meg, Keesha, Steph, Josh, Travis, & Brody) while Alex is in his Sophmore year of college. All friends decide to stay friends throughout and try dating other people. There will be some teen issues that will be mentioned in this book that was a little hard for me to read but unfortunately are real teen issues faced with today. I fell in love with Travis more in this book.
Well, I still love all the crew, but this book was again just okay for me. Same transitioning issues as the first two books, nothing major happening (well besides Amy, but who really cares about her), but still entertaining because of the characters. Still a good read, and worth moving on to the next.
Holy-freaking-hilarious. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. This series has gotten better with each book. As sappy as it sounds, I'm going to be totally bummed when it's over.
The girls made a pact to stay single and just date but man did they have some really bad dates. Someone loses their V-card, Someone gets back with their ex and another helps out an enemy in need. This author is good at writing stories of what actually happens in hs. one more book to go.
I don't know why, but I love this series. Nothing ground breaking, no new insights upon life, just good stories well told about real acting kids. Takes me back to my high school days in the best of ways. Really kicks my nostalgia gland into high gear, and always makes me laugh as well.
No words can describe how I feel about this book. I LOVED it. really touched my heart. I'm really gonna miss been! why do people leave all the time!! :(
OMGGGGGG WHYYYYYYYYYY!!! YOUR KILLIN ME HERE!!! WHY BEN ???? I"M IN LOVE WITH THE MAN AND HE ... WHY OH WHY!! WHO EVER HAS NOT READ THIS MUST READ THIS IS SERIES IT IS A TOTAL ADDICTION!!! Meg has become a wild child!! LOL
