This is the second volume in a series of textbooks designed to take the academically-minded student from beginner (or near-beginner) level to a stage where he/she has all the tools to achieve fluency. Attaining actual fluency will still depend on the student's own investment, in both time and energy. There will be five volumes in the series, with volumes 3 and 4 due to be published in 2013. Answer files for the exercises in the book are available on the book's Progressive Gaelic is designed to support lessons with a qualified teacher, and is not a stand-alone or teach-yourself course. The material in this first volume is equivalent to the second half of Level 1 in the beginners' Gaelic course at the University of Aberdeen

About the author

Moray Watson is Professor of Gaelic and Translation at the University of Aberdeen. Director of Ionad Eoghainn MhicLachlainn: The National Centre for Gaelic Translation, his publications include The Edinburgh Companion to the Gaelic Language (2010), An Introduction to Gaelic Fiction (2011) and textbooks and pedagogical materials for Gaelic. He edited Iain Crichton Smith's Gaelic poetry (2013) and short stories (2023) - both Donald Meek prize nominations, the former winning. His translations from various languages into Gaelic include Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (2012), The Hobbit (2024) and The Time Machine (2024).

A good textbook to go with the course at the University of Aberdeen. Could be a bit more coherent with its vocab lists though, I would the huge lists under the reading paragraphs combined and summarised at the end of each chapter, for example.

Dit is een lesboek Schots Gaelic met de nadruk op grammatica dat je naast een andere methode kan gebruiken voor verdieping van je grammaticale begrip. Je kan de methode niet zo op zich voor zelfstudie gebruiken. Zelf gebruik ik het als aanvulling op Speak Gaelic https://speakgaelic.scot/

De lessen bevatten korte woordenlijsten, grammaticale uitleg, rijtjes en oefeningen. De sleutel van de oefeningen is te vinden op een website.
