Midnight, April 5, 1970. Minutes after a red Pontiac with two men in it was stopped, four young California Highway Patrolmen lay dead of gunshot wounds. The incident still stands as the worst of its kind and has changed the way police forces operate the world over.
I'm ashamed to say that I only vaguely remember when this happened. Because of CHP policies at the time, rookies were made patrol partners. Who knows if this incident would have turned out better with seasoned patrol officers responding. It would have been interesting to know how the widows and children of these fine officers feel now after all these years. And, I am not sure why the author chose to print a picture of the fallen officers. It was too much.
