Mastering Omaha/8 Poker

Rate this book
Omaha eight or better high-low split (Omaha/8 for short) is a form of poker that continues to grow in popularity -- surpassing every other form of poker except Texas hold'em. Omaha/8 has much in common with Texas hold'em, but there are significant differences too. As a result, better players stand to make a significant profit in the game. While dozens of books have been written about Texas hold'em during the past two decades, precious few have been written about Omaha/8. This book is an update to the hugely popular and successful "Winning Omaha/8." There are new chapters covering material that has never been discussed in any form of poker literature and the previous material has been made current to keep up with the game's latest developments. "Mastering Omaha8," which is both a reference and a tutorial, is a much needed and useful tool for poker players interested in improving their Omaha/8 game.

I think this book is valuable for all aspiring Omaha 8 players. The book focuses very much on L08 and a bit on PL08 but does not explore NLO8 which has probably become the most popular of all Omaha 8 games. Also, the book is written by what you can tell were live casino grinders and not online grinders, and although there is no doubt that these guys are seasoned experts at the game, I think there will be a lot of online players who have learnt the majority of what they are trying to teach just by gaining experience of playing online. I did not like the format of the book at all. It consisted of approximately 550 to 600 words per page, where I believe the average book is probably around 300-400 per page, and therefore the book is double as long then you would think. It took me forever to get through the chapters and it dragged on a lot. There is however a wealth of knowledge, but most of it is repetition from other books. Having said that I do not think I could write a better Omaha 8 book, so I think the authors did a great job. This book wont turn you into a winning player, but will definitely add a few moves to your arsenal and give you a broader understanding of the game if you needed one.
