Put the fun back in small group Bible study! Ideal for newly formed Women's Bible studies or existing groups, this light, fun, 8 week Bible Study encourages group discussion of biblical perspectives on everyday topics. Each weekly lesson begins with an "Ice Breaker" section to get the conversation flowing, then moves on to a "Promise from God" section to provide group focus. This is then followed by a "Scripture References" section to guide the conversation through God's word. Next, a "Commentary" section provides food-for-thought to stimulate the discussion. The next section, "Discussion Questions," leads the group into deeper analysis and self-examination. Then, the "Opt. Weekly Challenges" section provides ways to translate thoughts into action during the upcoming week. Finally, there is a "Closing Prayer" section to wrap up the session. Unique in it's approach, this Bible study focuses on forming strong group bonds and providing an opportunity for women to really get to know and support each other as sisters in Christ.
Christine Tate, originally a Midwest native, grew up in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. The only child of a successful floor trader and an Indiana farm girl, she was strongly influenced by conservative, “Bible Belt” Christian philosophies. She started college at the age of fifteen and graduated from USC with honors at nineteen earning a degree in Cinema-Television. After various career experiences and many years living on the West Coast, she met and married the love of her life, Rick Tate. From there, she embarked on the travels and adventures that come with being a military spouse while homeschooling their daughter, Tabitha. Christine and her husband Rick currently live in Virginia Beach, VA where Rick retired from the Navy after a distinguished thirty-year career. Tabitha now attends a local High School where she enjoys her friends and activities. Christine is actively involved with church life and spends much of her time keeping up with family activities, producing the annual Virginia Beach Christian Readers and Authors Festival, mentoring other Christian authors, speaking at various events and writing Christian books. If you are looking to start a study with a few friends or one at your church, this would be a great first study. It isn't too intensive and covers all the issues women and moms face on a daily basis. Each session starts with an ice breaker then moves into a lesson, scripture, and discussion questions. It would be easy for all members to share the role of leading the study because everything is laid out for you in the book. Each study ends with a personal challenge for the week including doing a crossword puzzle to giving someone a compliment. Some weeks you may be challenged to start a garden or tell someone you love them more often. There are 8 weeks of study focusing on being organized and prepared as well as weight management and taking care of yourself. I really appreciated Tate's non-preachy approach and I think any woman, familiar with the Bible or not, would be comfortable participating in this study.
Many women complain about lack of time and busy schedules. So the author has put together a small and inclusive Bible study that women can use in a small group setting to get to know each other and the Lord without the stress of homework and lots of reading beforehand. Each chapter consists of an icebreaker, lesson, commentary, discussion questions, and the personal challenges. The lesson is the only section that has scripture.
The book is a lot smaller than I'd anticipated. There really isn't any additional reading required. This study would work well for someone who is a bit intimidated about starting a small group study since the lessons are outlined and structured. It would appeal to someone who doesn't want something that is in-depth or heavy or someone that is mixing denominations in their group.
