Rapids is an Australian love story set on the Mann River in a beautiful valley on the headwaters of the Clarence River in New South Wales, Australia. For two decades James has often camped in the place where the story is set and enjoyed the beauty of the river and the valley immensely. The Mann River feeds into the mighty Clarence River, which is the biggest river by volume of water, in Australia. These beautiful mountain valleys are about seventy kilometres east of the country town of Grafton, and are the same today as they have been since the beginning of time. There is a peace there that is rare almost anywhere today.

James Ward is an Australian author and educator. He has lived in many remote Aboriginal communities, working as a specialist English As Second Language teacher. He enjoys sailing and has owned four cruising yachts. He has three daughters and lives in New South Wales, Australia.
