This was a good devotional for Advent through Shrove Tuesday, and shared a lot of good ideas for building family traditions around important church holidays. I appreciate that there are several different ideas but we are encouraged to *not* attempt to do everything each year and burn out. So I might be able to make use of this next year as well. Each day has a short prayer, scripture reference, and ideas for application. We mostly just did the readings and prayers, but it was nice to have a structured way to work through some gospel readings. I appreciate that the topics focused on celebrating Jesus in one way or another and appeared fairly free of denominational slants.

We keep getting frustrated with the Christanese found in kids' devotionals. Finally, we heard about this (book 1/3) through the Renovaré group. It's a simple, faith exploration around the image of gardening (tilling, planting, watering, weeding) without rote religion. Theologically solid yet creative devotional to use as a family around the liturgical calendar. We're currently loving it.
