They say what you don't know can't hurt you. They're wrong...
Julie Sterling is the girl everyone loves to love: she's funny, vibrant, and has an infectious passion for life. Her identical twin Nev is whip-smart, driven, and charismatic. In short, the Sterling sisters are the last two people anyone would want to see dead. But Julie suffers from a debilitating case of narcolepsy, and falling asleep on the job proves dangerous now that a perverted killer has descended upon the streets of Portland. Somewhere in those lost slices of Julie's time and memory lies a well of untapped secrets that could destroy everything the Sterling twins have ever known.
Unfortunately for Nev and Julie, it turns out that fighting to stay alive is really complicated when one of you is already dead.
After reading the prologue to Normal I was instantly hooked. This book is UNBELIEVABLY good! It is written in such an engaging, fast-paced style that it sucks you in from the start and there's no letting go. The cleverly structured narrative interweaves many different character plot lines so cleverly and effortlessly, without becoming confusing at any point. The descriptions are so vivid, the dialogue so convincing, but you also get a real sense of the author's voice through the writing, and, for a psychological thriller, it is surprisingly amusing in places. It has the mood and feel of David Lynch's Mulholland Drive... but this is even better. We will be hearing a lot more from K.M. Kinsley, that is for sure. She has got a very big future ahead of her. Top class!
Okay, I'm addicted. I don't think calling this book a "thriller" does it justice. Don't get me wrong - it is crazy suspenseful and chilling! But the characters are so much less wooden than you see in most thriller/suspense novels. They're relatable. The dialogue in particular is excellent. Kinsley weaves her web deftly, and you get the sense that the climax of this series is going to be absolutely mind-blowing. I'm with the others who say they're dying for the next installment. The ending of book one was CRUEL. No one who reads this book will be able to resist buying the second one. Trust me, this series is going to be on everyone's reading lists soon.
just finished this. intriguing ending which instantly made me go back to the start and page through, something which is easier in Kindle format than a " normal" book. Also needed to look up narcolepsy on google to understand the nature of the condition. Quite a lot of characters and situations which may fall better into place on my second reading but maybe not as I guess thats the whole point of this genre of story, it keeps you guessing!! enjoyed it and looking forward to next instalment with great expectations.
This book is really, really good. I wasn't sure how I'd like it, as I'm not generally keen on scary books. But this is a mixture of creepy, intriguing, and sometimes even funny. It's like a TV miniseries in book form, one where you can't wait to tune into the next episode because the twists keep building. I already love the characters, and look forward to find out how the loose ends fit together. Cheers, Ms. Kinsley! I'm a new fan.
I found this book highly gripping, and couldn't wait to get to the next chapter. Each word had me on the edge of my seat to find out what would happen next. I like the doses of subtle humour that the author put in throughout, giving it a light feel here and there. I highly recommend this book to everyone, it really is a page turner. I cannot wait for the next book to come out.
Very good writing, I was a bit confused with all the characters over lapping but the very end kind of explains all of that. This is mostly character and plot development for the next book, saying that there is plenty of action and intrigue to be a good read in and of itself but now I long for the next book to see where this goes and get some resolution.
Loved this book! The first chapter hooked me and I read the whole thing in one sitting. Great characters, wonderful word smithing, and a twist at the end! Can't wait for Book 2...I would have kept right on reading!
Absolutely amazing! The book takes off running and doesn't stop, not even at the end! Leaves the reader craving more! Anxiously awaiting book two! FANTASTIC JOB KINSLEY!
