I love the lesson that the main character learns form this book. There is a little girl who loved horses and wanted to ride them. She eventually learns the basics of riding a horse. After a bad experience, the girl decides she never wants to ride one again because she was terrified. Her mom gives her a "magic" charm that will help her get back on a horse. She wore the charm at her future lessons and began to trust again. As challenges were made, she trusted in herself and her horse and her courage and determination brought her good luck. Her good luck charm became a reminder of her own effort.
In a classroom, this story could be suggested to the students who love horses or animals. I also find this book as an encouraging story for anyone needing to feel like they can do whatever their heart desires. It could make an impact on some students.

The fact that this still has reviews from 2023 makes my heart happy. Over visiting family this weekend, I found my childhood book that encouraged me to stay confident while riding. Thinking that it may not be remembered/popular, I was pleasantly surprised to see high reviews, and I'm here to add to that. I did, in fact, read over it again, so it counts on my list. (LOL)
This story really did encourage me when I was little. I remember popping over my first tiny fences, thinking it was the scariest (and most exciting!) thing to do in the equestrian world, and I wore the Good Luck Pony for it. The story concept is clear and the illustrations sweet and adorable. Also, it's not talked about enough that scary things do happen on horseback, from novice to experienced riders, so I think it's important young riders learn how to understand, process those feelings, embrace, and conquer them.

This is a classic, my mom read it to me as a child. I adored it then and I adore it now as a young middle aged woman! It has so many good 'words of wisdom' about learning something new and the process of trying something that scares you and putting in the effort to make what you want a reality. As a child I wore the necklace that this book came with all the time and I think it is such a wonderful addition to the story itself, almost like a learning activity for the reader to become the character and practice the principles from the book.

A girl looked forward to the day when she could ride horses. One day, she got on a horse that wanted to run very fast. This scared her so badly, she did not want to ride again but her mother gave her a lucky horse charm on a necklace. She was to use it to get back on a horse and fulfill her dreams. She took lessons, and found that it took lots of practice to achieve her dreams. This is a wonderful book to teach young children that they must work and practice to have the things they desire.

This is a sweet story that will inspire young girls to work hard and believe in themselves. More so, I have a feeling that it will inspire young girls to want to learn to ride a horse. Our youngest certainly expressed a desire to take horseriding lessons after reading this story together. The illustrations are simple, but cute and the narrative is engaging. I like that the author is sure to explain that the horse charm does not actually bring the little girl luck, but reminds her of all the hard work she has put in to learn to ride horses and helps her be less afraid.

Kasie received this book years ago with a necklace and horse pendant attached. Who would have ever known Kasie would become a rider.
