Portfolio management is an integral part of the organization’s overall strategic plan. While project and program management focus on “doing the work right,” the purpose of portfolio management is “doing the right work.” The Standard for Portfolio Management—Third Edition offers the most up to date information regarding accepted practices in portfolio management and includes new material: 1) three Knowledge Areas were added to address Portfolio Strategic Management, Portfolio Performance Management, and Portfolio Communication Management; 2) the Defining Process Group was added to address defining processes; 3) the Authorizing and Controlling Process Group replaced the Monitoring and Controlling Process Group.

Completely understand that it is a standard and it shouldn’t be fun reading it, but it was really boring experience (though, of course, useful). Like the concept of product/service deliverable -> benefit (in format of capability) -> value recognition talking about project, program and portfolio major goals.

PMI Standard related to Portfolio Management. Like the PMBOK Guide, it is a reference when you are working with portfolios. It is not a book to teach you portfolio management. it is reference.

The book fails to be "invaluable for portfolio managers and aspiring portfolio managers, [...] an important reference for anyone who works with portfolios—from project and program managers to project stakeholders and senior managers."

In fact, I don't learn anything after reading this book.

Great reference book on Portfolio Management... Probably the best technical book on Portfolio Management out there at the moment
