Rate this book
You want to make a difference in the world, but don't know where to begin. Now you can. Here is just the guide to lots of exciting ways that are more personal and fun than merely writing a check. For every day of the year, 365 Ways to Change the World is packed with information and ideas that don't take a lot of special skills to put into action, but will achieve something

The suggestions cover twelve important areas in which you can influence change, including in your local community, as a consumer, making a cultural contribution, and addressing problems such as the environment, health, and human rights. You can go through the book day by day or use the index to flip to the issues that concern you most; to help you take action, a complementary website links straight to many of the sources listed in the book. Great to give as well as to keep, this is an inspiring, practical resource for making the world a better place -- one day at a time.

Excellent springboard for ideas “to do good” on a continuum from everyday small changes to community-sized projects. The book is very well organized with daily descriptions of an action, its need(s), and first steps to get involved. Since it was written in 2005, however, some are a bit dated. I found one project in particular that piqued my interest, but the website address no longer existed. With just a bit of perusing, I was able to access the 2016 site, learn about its current activities, and register to lend a hand.

A very thought provoking collection of ideas from the founder of the Directory of Social Change, Michael Norton to instigate a whole range of changes in society. Set out displaying a new idea per day, each page provides the reader with something to think about - some may not be practical for you, others not interesting but there is guaranteed to be something that stands out and says I can help with that!

It also gives an idea into what basic measures everyone can do, and in fact, you may already be doing to make the world better. A couple such as BookCrossing, mobile phone recycling and giving blood are very simple whilst driving to Africa, planting a Peace Pole or hitchhiking to Morocco require a little more thought!

It will make you stop and think for sure and that is 1/2 way there to doing something..

SYN: Themed in areas such as environment, etc and shows one act you can do every day to change the world. Has very simple things and big things as well. Great stories, inspiring articles, funny tidbits and generally things that would change your perspective on things.

This book is very easy to read There's a topic for each day and there are chapters which makes it very easy to just pick a few if you want to.
There are fun facts, and small things you can do, and it's really a very inspiring book.
You will not be sorry you read it.

This book has lots of interesting ideas to make a better world, from tips to living a more eco-friendly life to volunteering opportunities... It is mostly UK-centred, so some actions won't be relevant to people in other countries. Also, I wonder about some of the suggestions. I don't really see their point... But overall, it was a read that inspired me to do some things differently. I recommend it.

Not quite a change, more of a nudge. The book could have gone more in depth but it just played it safe. Though I did learn many things from it.

This book is a really great way to devalue and demotivate idealism in yourself and others.

Pretty good overall. I might revisit this book and do even more of the things suggested to improve the world. However, it is terribly dated, and not in a charming way. Half the sites mentioned are down, and some of the ideas to improve the world are focused on issues that don’t exist anymore. What should I do, campaign against a War in Iraq that we’re already out of? Help a charity that doesn’t exist anymore?

I wish there was an updated version of this book so I could support modern causes in the small ways that this book wants me to do. This book still has some use, however, like recommending visiting the Hunger Site, a website that still exists. And this book still inspired me to go beyond what the book suggests, which maybe was its intention. Worth reading, but not bold enough in execution and certainly not timeless enough for someone who read it sixteen years after it was published.

I had this book on my shelf for ages, and have read it before. I skimmed through it today. Good ideas. It was surprising how many times HIV was mentioned, we have made so much progress with PEP and PREP since this book was printed.

What I would like to have seen is encouraging readers to join existing organisations rather continually encouraging them to start something themselves or with a group of friends. Rotary Clubs are working on these issues, join to add to the existing achievements. No need to start your own program from scratch.

Overall the book was probably very good to read when the internet was new and harder to navigate.
