Die Geschichte ist wirklich sehr spannend, detailliert und natürlich wieder einmal grandios, wie sich letztendlich die unterschiedlichen Handlungsstränge der unterschiedlichen Charaktere verbinden und sich zu einem Bild zusammenfügen. Leider habe ich die Zusammenhänge dann im letzten drittel relativ bald einmal voraussehen können und die grosse Auflösung war dann für mich nicht die Überraschung schlechthin, wie es das sonst bei ihren Büchern für mich war.
Auch an ihrem Schreibstil tue ich mich wohl immer etwas schwerer. Er ist mir etwas zu Flosken-Haft. Sie verleit den Charakteren sehr viel Tiefe und Hintergrund, dies ist leider jedoch auch damit verbunden, dass Dinge oft wiederholt und betont werden, so dass die Zusammenhänge dann voraussehbar sind. Zudem wird so leider dem Leser/Hörer auch nicht wirklich raum gelassen, auch mal selber etwas zu verstehen/interpretieren.

In diesem Buch laufen viele Stränge zusammen. Am Anfang ist das noch ganz spannend, man rätselt, wie diese Themen zusammenhängen und wie es sich auflösen könnte. Die Geschichte ist interessant aufgebaut und lässt sich leicht lesen. Irgendwann ist aber ein Teil des Plots gelöst und ich fragte mich, was denn jetzt noch 200 Seiten lang passieren soll. Antwort: Nicht viel. Es wird viel geschwafelt, sich wiederholt und während die finale Auflösung (die relativ unspektakulär und wenig überraschend ist) so zäh vor sich hinplätschert, wurden mir die Charaktere immer unsympatischer. Die emotionalen Zweifel, die sich wiederholen und in langen Absätzen hinziehen sind irgendwann echt unnötig und wirken so, als ob einfach zweifelhaft versucht wird möglichst viele Seiten vollzukriegen.
Die Hauptprotagonistin verhält sich auch ziemlich unsympatisch und egoistisch (aus meiner Perspektive) und hat mich irgendwann nur noch genervt mit ihren Aktionen.
Aus meiner Sicht hätten 100 - 200 Seiten weniger dem Buch gut getan. Nach knapp 640 Seiten war ich jedoch froh, dass ich durch war und der Spaß beim Lesen, den ich anfangs hatte, war komplett verflogen.

4 stars for another solid Charlotte Link novel!
Once again, Charlotte Link, who is definitely one of my favorite writers managed to offer an intriguing story with strong characters and a lot of unexpected plot twists. Usually I am able to figure out which direction a story is going to take when I have read a few books by one specific author, but Charlotte Link is actually not tempted to recycle plot elements.
I always enjoy the fact that she is able to intertwine a multitude of different plot lines and I never have the feeling that there are unanswered questions at the end of her books. And that’s quite a talent in my eyes! I won’t give a summary of the plot, there are already quite a few reviews out there doing a nice job in that domain and the blurb is actually telling you everything there is to know.
This won’t be my last Charlotte Link in 2017!

Anfangs war ich wirklich sehr begeistert. Ich konnte das Buch kaum aus der Hand legen, zum Teil weil es sehr spannend war, zum Teil aber auch wegen den verschiedenen und interessanten Charakteren. Ich war sehr gespannt darauf, wie sich am Ende alles aufdröseln und miteinander vermischen würde. Leider verließ dann die Geschichte aber ab etwa der Hälfte die Power und die Story zog sich und zog sich. Ich bin eh kein Freund von dicken Büchern und "Die letzte Spur" stellte meine Geduld wirklich auf eine harte Probe. So kurz vor Schluss abbrechen, wollte ich dann aber auch nicht und so quälte ich mich durch die letzten Seiten. Warum man auf Biegen und Brechen 600 Seiten schreiben musste, wenn es doch auch 400 getan hätten, bleibt mir wohl ein Rätsel.

Usually I like big books but this one was definitely too long. And the pacing was kind of off. It started slow which is no problem, then it got interesting and even thrilling around 2/3 in. But then suddenly the curve just dropped drastically and the last 200 pages were really boring and unnecessary for the most part. The premise sounded so interesting but I didn’t like the execution that much. I might have enjoyed the story more if I cared for any of the characters. 600 pages, lots of introspection and I still couldn’t connect with the characters. There were too many and they were all super unlikable and whiny and superficial/one-dimensional stereotypes. I couldn’t care less for all their problems. (Although a lot of these problems are serious and real, maybe that’s why it was such a very depressing read.) And don’t get me started on all the questionable and unrealistic things some of those characters did. I also hated the way women were portrayed. The amount of times it was mentioned how pitiful the lives of women are who didn’t manage to be pretty enough to find a husband. It was annoying. At least it was a quick read despite the length and there was just enough mystery to keep me going (not much payoff though).

Die Handlung war zwar spannend, aber etwas langgezogen durch viele (unnötige) Ausschmückungen. Das Ende war irgendwann vorhersehbar, aber trotzdem sehr gut. Mit war die Protagonistin so unsympathisch und ab der Hälfte hat sie mich nur noch genervt..

If I could give two and a half stars, I would.
This book started slow. I didn't get into the story quickly, I was tempted to put it aside a few times, and did twice to read other books. It was a birthday present, though, so I hung on.
I'm glad I did. In the last third of the book, the story's pace pics up and it gets a lot more interesting. Though I couldn't fall into it, this might be because I read it in German, and I don't usually do.
and seeing as I read it in German, here's the review in German again:
Wenn ich dem Buch zweieinhalb Sterne geben hätte können, hätte ich das gemacht.
Es hat sehr langsam angefangen und ich konnte mich eine ganze Weile nicht in die Geschichte hineinversetzen. Ich war mehrmals versucht, das Buch beiseitezulegen, und habe zwei weitere Bücher zwischendurch gelesen, was ich normalerweise vermeide. Aber es war ein Geburtstagsgeschenk, also habe ich mich "durchgebissen".
Ich bin auch recht froh, dass ich es zuende gebracht habe. Das letzte Drittel des Buchs ist von der Geschichte her schneller und spannender, und viel interessanter. Obwohl ich nicht richtig hinein kam habe ich es gemocht - und meine Probleme könnten auch daran liegen, dass ich normalerweise nur noch englische Bücher lese.

Ich kann ein paar anderen Rezensionen nur Zustimmen. Der Anfang ist wirklich gut und fesselnd, aber in der Mitte vom zweiten Teil wird’s dann wirklich langatmig. Die Protagonistin wird zunehmend unsympathischer und das Ende ist vorhersehbar. Die letzten 200 Seiten hätte man auf 40 zusammenfassen können.

Avevo tanto sentito parlare di Charlotte Link e sempre bene, per cui era un po’ che pensavo che avrei dovuto leggere un suo libro.
Questo romanzo, però, non mi ha convinto del tutto. Inizialmente, infatti, ho faticato davvero tanto con la lettura, la storia non andava per nulla avanti e in moltissimi punti mi sono annoiata. Solo verso la fine del romanzo finalmente il racconto mi ha preso e non sono riuscita a mettere giù il libro finchè non era finito. Il problema, però, è stato arrivarci a quel punto.
Il problema del libro è che inizialmente ci sono molte storie che non sembrano aver nulla a che fare l’una con l’altra e solo alla fine riescono ad unirsi tra di loro, e questo ok, ma spesso non si capisce bene quale storia sia quella con la quale si ha a che fare, per cui non si capisce quale personaggio stia parlando. Inoltre molto spesso i capitoli finiscono con un cliffhanger, ma prima di scoprire cos’è successo passano 2-3 capitoli se non di più nei quali si ha a che fare con altri personaggi, cosa che in moltissimi momenti mi ha fatto davvero venire il nervoso.
Rosanna, la protagonista del romanzo, l’ho trovata abbastanza piatta e noiosa, non è spiccata in nessun momento, mentre mi ha fatto sbuffare non so quante volte. Il suo rapporto con Mare, poi, mi ha davvero fatto cadere le braccia, per non dire alto.
Mare proprio non l’ho sopportato, l’ho trovato alquanto finto.
Tant’è che a causa sua il finale mi ha fatto un po’ storcere il naso, anzi devo dire che proprio non mi è piaciuto, in quanto alla fine non ha dato tante risposte a tutto ciò che era successo nel romanzo.

The cover says that this book is written "in English style". When I see something like that, I immediately think Christie or Sayers, this one was much more Nordic-noir, something like Lackberg. It has really good characters and a very nice central mystery, but both of these came with some caveats. The characters are bogged down by downright ridiculous amount of personal drama that has practically no connection to the main plot, while the central story arc is padded by an addition of a subplot, which while interesting in its own right is much too easily resolved. Despite that, it was a tense, gripping read that I enjoyed and I'd like to read more from this author.

Elaine Dawson macht fast nichts neues. Dann will sie von London nach Gibraltar fliegen um eine Hochzeit zu besuchen. As gab viel Nebel und die Flucht ist abgesagt. Sie hat kein Geld. Sie geht nach Hause mit einem fremden Mann. Danach sieht niemand Elaine wieder. Rosanna will etwas herausfinden. Das macht sie. Aber die Geschichte handelt sich viel von Familien. Zwischen Vater und Kind. Mutter und Kind. USW. Sehr gut.

Woww.. das ist eins der schlechtesten Bücher die ich je gelesen habe. Alle Charakter waren so krank in diesem Buch & ihr handeln null nachvollziehbar.. das Ende bestätigt das auch nochmal zu 100%

Pomysł na fabułę był bardzo ciekawy. Szara myszka z wiochy zabitej deskami, Elaine Dawson, wyrusza odważnie w świat. Niestety, splot niefortunnych okoliczności sprawia, że nie dociera na ślub swojej koleżanki, nawet gorzej - przepada bez wieści. Po kilku latach Rosanna, owa koleżanka i była dziennikarka, która była przyczyną wyjazdu Elaine ze swojej norki, dostaje propozycję napisania artykułów o zganionych osobach. Oczywiście sprawa Dawson jest numerem jeden na jej liście, w końcu to była prawie przyjaciółka. Poszukiwania prawdy nigdy nie są łatwe, w tej sprawie również wiele rzeczy ujrzy światło dzienne, chociaż nie dla każdego będzie to powód do radości.
Wszystko super, tyle że główna bohaterka znów jest bardziej irytująca niż dająca się lubić. Jak już zabieram się za czytanie babskich thrillerów, gdzie krwi i flaków jest jak na lekarstwo, to miło jest, gdy główna bohaterka to jakaś fajna babka. Rosanna do tego gatunku nie należy, ale wymienianie tego, co mi w niej nie pasuje byłoby spoilerem, więc nie będę się nad nią znęcać. Całe śledztwo, poszukiwanie prawdy i rozwiązanie nie było złe, jakieś tam próby zmylenia przeciwnika były i nie mogę narzekać na wielką nudę.
Do dań głównych serwowanych przez panią Link dopisuję zdrady. Wszelakiej maści niewierność, w małżeństwie, luźnym związku, w ogóle. Nie wiem skąd autorka bierze inspiracje do tworzenia tak naiwnych, nierozważnych i wręcz rozwiązłych kobiet. Płaczliwe mimozy uzależnione od mężczyzn to jedno, ale to wskakiwanie do łóżka po pół dnia znajomości też mnie zaczyna irytować :P
Czas na chwilę przerwy od twórczości pani Link, muszę trochę odpocząć od tego zbiorowiska dziwnych kobiet z problemami.

Wszystko super, tyle że główna bohaterka znów jest bardziej irytująca niż dająca się lubić. Jak już zabieram się za czytanie babskich thrillerów, gdzie krwi i flaków jest jak na lekarstwo, to miło jest, gdy główna bohaterka to jakaś fajna babka. Rosanna do tego gatunku nie należy, ale wymienianie tego, co mi w niej nie pasuje byłoby spoilerem, więc nie będę się nad nią znęcać. Całe śledztwo, poszukiwanie prawdy i rozwiązanie nie było złe, jakieś tam próby zmylenia przeciwnika były i nie mogę narzekać na wielką nudę.
Do dań głównych serwowanych przez panią Link dopisuję zdrady. Wszelakiej maści niewierność, w małżeństwie, luźnym związku, w ogóle. Nie wiem skąd autorka bierze inspiracje do tworzenia tak naiwnych, nierozważnych i wręcz rozwiązłych kobiet. Płaczliwe mimozy uzależnione od mężczyzn to jedno, ale to wskakiwanie do łóżka po pół dnia znajomości też mnie zaczyna irytować :P
Czas na chwilę przerwy od twórczości pani Link, muszę trochę odpocząć od tego zbiorowiska dziwnych kobiet z problemami.

I like how much depth Link gives the characters. Even the woman that finds a body in the forest during the walk with her dog has a personality, goals, wishes and regrets.
However, this also has a negative aspect. Many things are repeated, overstressed and sometimes explained to death. I'm missing a bit of the "between the lines". Sometimes you'd like to pop your head into a certain scene and say "I get it, please move on already".
Generally, this was a good read though (aaaayyyy). I never felt bored with the story, neither the second time reading it when I knew the ending already, nor the first time when I saw the solution coming. It had fleshed out, three-dimensional characters and a satisfying conclusion.

Una giovane donna scompare nel nulla senza, appunto, lasciare traccia.Prende avvio così questo nuovo romanzo di Charlotte Link, autrice che ho conosciuto con "La casa delle sorelle" e che ho apprezzato in molte altre sue opere. Anche in questo romanzo il ritmo incalzante e la trama avvincente, con parecchi colpi di scena, tengono il lettore con il fiato sospeso, incollato alle pagine fino all'epilogo non certo scontato. I personaggi, come sempre, sono molto ben delineati sotto il profilo psicologico, in particolare modo quelli femminili. Non mancano alcune pagine letteralmente "da brivido" : lettura sconsigliata di sera!

Reklamowana jako "Trzymający w napięciu, znakomicie skonstruowany thriller psychologiczny". Mam wrażenie, że z autorem tego hasła czytaliśmy całkiem różne książki. O ile historia dość ciekawa, to już podana w kiepski sposób. Rozwlekły, z naiwnymi dialogami, które drażnią infantylnością, narracja zaś powtórzeniami, jakby czytelnicy byli półgłówkami. Często odnosiłam wrażenie, jakby powieść była pisana na pierwsze zajęcia zaliczeniowe ze "sztuki pisania". Szkoda całkiem niezłej historii.

Jestem rozczarowana - spodziewałam się dobrego kryminału, a nie love-story ze średnio złożoną zagadką kryminalną w tle. Bardziej męcząca niż wciągająca, a opisy przeżyć wewnętrznych bohaterów w żadnym stopniu nie ubarwiały fabuły. To moja pierwsza, i ostatnia jak mniemam, książka pani Link. Dobrze, że słuchałam audiobooka przy sprzątaniu - gdybym poświęciła czas na przeczytanie tej książki, byłabym mocno zirytowana.

Libro rimasto per più di 10 anni ad aspettarmi: alla fine ho ceduto, l’ho letto ma non posso dargli più di 2 stelline. Potremmo definirlo un libro noir se non fosse condito con storie d’amore imbarazzanti. Alla fine la trama c’è, la lettura da metà libro in poi diventa avvincente ma non mi ha convinta.

Questo bel giallo mi ha tenuta compagnia giusto un paio di settimane.. Le cause? Intrecci e finale imprevedibili, ritmo scorrevole e una buona caratterizzazione dei personaggi.

Before reading this novel from Charlotte Link I had read "Die Suche" and I was fascinated and on the edge of my seat because of the very original storyline and the unexpected turnout at the end.
I read this in hopes of getting something similar but this just ain't it, people. The plot was entirely predictable and dragged out to the point where I had just wanted it to end quickly. I wasn't able to connect with the characters this time around. It felt like the author really tried to make them 3D and she was successful at some times but again, the story was so predictable. I felt like I had heard of similar plotlines a dozen of times.
Another point is that I really need to connect with at least one character in a book to make it a good read and although the heroine Rosanne was relatable in some sense I found her to be deeply unsympathetic at the end and that was due to her personal life. At first I loved her due to her independence but then she ruined everything. Her marriage problem and later on the adultery she commited that seemed to have no repercussions on her at all. I felt like she had no conscience about it as well. Her adultery was mentioned as if it was something fleeting to her not taking into perspective how the two people who had become her family (namely her husband and son) were hurt and abandoned by her actions. She was entirely selfish and was almost victimizing herself. I eventually had to stop reading when I came close to the end because the characters annoyed the heck out of me. Especially Rosanne.

Bevor ich etwas zum Buch sage, muss ich erst mal gestehen dass ich kein großer Krimi/Thriller Fan bin.
Auch dieses Buch bestärkt mich in meiner Meinung eher. Die Handlung ist relativ sachte, wenn ich das so sagen darf. Es passiert nicht wirklich etwas, außer dass nach einer Frau gesucht wird. Und das über 600 Seiten...
Anstrengender und erstaunlicher finde ich aber, dass die Autorin es geschafft hat, jeden weiblichen Charakter in die Opferrolle zu drängen. Wirklich jeden. Auch Nebencharaktere, die nur einmal erwähnt werden. Von einsamen Hundebesitzerinen die nie die Liebe gefunden haben, misshandelt Freundinnen, Alkoholikerinnen in unglücklichen Ehen zu Jugendlichen aus armen Familien die sich Prostituierten ist wirklich alles mal dabei.
Dann kommt natürlich noch eine Liebesgeschichte hinzu, weil es wohl nicht möglich ist für 2 Leute die länger zusammen zu arbeiten, nicht übereinander herzufallen.
Auch das Ende fällt ziemlich flach und erklärt kaum etwas.
Ich will ehrlich sein, für mich war das Buch wirklich gar nichts, für Leute die gerne Thriller oder Krimis lesen ist das Ganze bestimmt nicht ganz so schlimm.

Gdy dostaje zaproszenie na ślub przyjaciółki na Gibraltarze myśli, że bedzie to dla niej fantastyczna odskoczniaod szarej codzienności. Niestety warunki pogodowe nie pozwalają na lot . Załamana, spotyka na lotnisku Marca, adwokata , ktory bezinteresownie pozwala jej przenocować u siebie, aby nastepnego dnia mogla spróbowac dolecieć na ślub. Nigdy na te uroczystosc nie dociera. Znika bez sladu.

Ich liebe die Bücher von Charlotte Link. Sie schreibt immer wieder spannend, mitreißend und so, dass man kaum die Augen von den Seiten lassen kann.
Die Ermittlungen rund um Elaine Dawson und die damit verknüpften Ereignisse haben mir stellenweise den Atem geraubt.
Auch wenn viele der Meinung sind, einem Buch in dem man keinen Einblick in die Arbeit der Polizei bekommt, kann man nicht die Bezeichnung „Kriminalroman“ geben, denke ich, dass dies genau das ist. Ein Krimi muss spannend sein, Rätsel aufgeben aber nicht so heftig sein wie ein Thriller. Genau das passt auf „Die letzte Spur“.
Das Buch wurde auch verfilmt, und den Film habe ich neulich ebenfalls gesehen. Ich glaube es ist unnötig zu sagen, dass das Buch besser war xD
