Maea played the game of intrigue and lost. Her mistakes nearly cost her life. Though she escaped, her reputation has not fared as well. She and her companions are marked as traitors and as such, if they are caught, their lives are forfeit. Thanks to the enigmatic Johai, Maea was able to flee to the Neaux capital of Sanore. She and her companions are hoping to find a way to break the bond between Johai and the specter. With each passing day, Maea can see Johai slipping away little by little as the specter takes over his body. Time is short and luck is not on their side as they encounter many dead ends in their search. Sanore is only meant to be a stop along their journey. Fate and the prophecy, however, have other plans in mind. When circumstances beyond their control trap the trio in Sanore, Maea's curiosity leads her back to Jon Sixton and the Order of the Oak in the heart of Sanore. It would be safer to keep her distance but visions of Princess Sarelle have piqued her interest. As Maea digs deeper, she uncovers the plot which cost King Dallen's life goes much further than usurping the throne of Danhad. Princess Sarelle's death may not have been an accident at all... Maea is left with the difficult does she continue her hopeless search to save Johai or help prevent a war from destroying two nations? Jon Sixton gives her an offer that is difficult to refuse, one that could both help stop the war and lead her to a way to save Johai. How can she say no? Jon's convenient plan is not without strings, and the price may be greater than she's willing to make. Maea must find out the truth behind Princess Sarelle's death in order to find the links which will lead her to a way to save Johai. The lines between lover and enemy, friend and foe begin to blur as do her motives. Neither her past experiences, nor her powers can help her to decide who to trust. She will gamble much to save Johai but how much is she willing to give up to save him?
Nicolette Andrews is a born and raised San Diegan with a passion for fantasy, especially if it has a romance and some mystery and intrigue mixed it doesn't go amiss either. Apart from writing, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, preferably somewhere outside enjoying the San Diego sunshine.
AGAIN LIKE BOOK 1 FULL OF ACTION. I ENJOYED THIS BOOK MORE AS THE SEARS STORY PROGRESSED AND I LEARNT MORE OF HER FAMILY HISTORY AND A SPIRIT APPEAR TO GUIDE HER ON HER QUEST TO SAVE BOTH THE WORLD AND THE MAN SHE REMEMBERS SHE LOVES. BUT THERE ARE SURPRISING TWISTS AND TURNS AND SACRIFICES THAT MADE ME SAD (TEMPORARILY). THE PLOT UNCOVERED WAS RIVITING AND THE ENDING SURPRISING. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO MORE OF THIS SERIES. RECOMMENDED
The story of Maea, the last Diviner, continues in Diviner's Curse-book two of the Diviner Trilogy. And what an amazing story it is! I absolutely loved every page of it. Maea seemed to grow and mature (I have to admit she frustrated me a little in the first book), and I liked how much stronger and independent she has become. All the characters were well developed, each with their own personality and backstory. We get to know a little more about Johai and the Spector, as well as Beau and Damara. However, my favorite character was Jon. As the story progressed I grew to care for him, and I absolutely loved how he has transformed from the first book-he seemed to care for Maea and overall was a fun character. I only wish Layton was in the story as well-I'm very curious as to what had happened to him after the events of the first book.
Overall this was a very enjoyable book. There's magic, mystery, action, politics, romance - everything a good fantasy story needs. Can't wait to read the next one.
I loved this book just as much as the first...there was no lull or dull time within it and when I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about reading it. When I wasn't able to pick it up because of things I had to do, I was wishing I could. I love how strong Maea is even when life throws her nothing but obstacles and it just goes to show you that no matter how hard life seems sometimes, there are always people there to help you try and over come it and there are always ways to get through it. I loved how while I was reading I felt like I drifted into the story with Maea and everyone else and the emotions that everyone felt, I could feel them too. Those are the best kind of stories in my opinion! I cannot wait to read the 3rd one which I will be starting right away and I cannot wait to find out what happens next in the adventure. I will def be recommending this book to many!
I was rather hoping this book would give me an insight into the reasons for the loss of memory in book one, but in that respect it left me rather dissatisfied. It's possible I need to reread and may simply have skimmed over a crucial explanation but surely such an important revelation should have been emphasized several times.
That aside, i really enjoyed this book. It did a lot more to make me understand and relate to the main character than the first one and the pacing and plot line were pretty spot on. I am keen to see what the third installment holds. I hope there are some pretty revealing moments which provide a broad overview of the confusing points of the first 2 books.
The sequel to Diviner's Prophecy & book 2 of the Diviner Trilogy, brings back the intrigue and adventure and unravels a more clear picture into Maea's destiny. Maea has developed into a stronger and more independent character, while keeping us in touch with her inner struggles and fears.
This series continues to keep me captivated and indulge my love of more than immersing myself in its pages but in the World of Diviners. Nicolette Andrews has done a fine job of keeping the fantasy realm and its characters identifiable to her audience.
The conclusion of Diviner's Curse has left me in such suspense and anticipation with its cliffhanger, that I cannot wait to read the final installment. How will Maea fulfill her destiny?
Holy potatoes I have just finished reading this amazing story. When I thought the second part couldn't be as good as the first. I was proven wrong.
Nicolette sure likes her twists and turns in this story. She has had me on the edge of me seat throughtout the whole entire story. I was finally seeing on of the Characters in a new light, and then she goes and does that.
Another great story, I will definately be getting the next story I have to see what happens with the gang especially Johal.
Fantastic Nicolette. You out did yourself on this story.
I read the 1st two books of the Diviner's trilogy. I loved the characters and the mysterious air surrounding them. The main character has lost her memory and is trying to remember who she is and to what purpose she has been put on this earth. Of course, there are the usual evil ones that thwart her every move. I would recommend this set of books to anyone who is in need of escape and who enjoys fantasy. I look forward to the third book in the series.
Nicolette Andrews' second book in her Diviner's Trilogy, Diviner's Curse , picks up exactly where the first one left off so the reader may continue a fantastical adventure into a medieval world with sorcerers and spectors and finely crafted characters. The pages seem to turn themselves as the reader is fascinated by vivid descriptions and dialogue. Can't wait to begin the third book in this series.
The story continues to bring intrigue and adventure to the reader. I will say the editing could have been much better...the author switches from present tense to past tense, usually in the same paragraph, quite often, which is really annoying. However, the story itself is good and I am off to the next book..
The book grabbed my attention quickly. I liked the plot idea and wondering what was going on with her missing memories. As the story went on I found the story-line predictable. The middle of the book was a little slow. Despite that it was written well enough to keep me engaged.
This review is based on an audio-book that I received. It is an honest review and the complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating.
'Divener's Curse' by Nicolette Andrews is the story of Maea. This is the second audio-book in "Diviner' Series. This series has 3 books. This audio-book is about 10 hours and 7 minutes long and has an open end. It is easy to continue the story from this point on.
The narrator, Anna Castiglioni has a nice and soft spoken voice. Her voice is very clear, but I think that she doesnt have a nice pacing so that I cant follow the story clearly. I find it very distrubing that she doesnt take the time to pause on certain points. I think that is why I missed a bit of emotion from the characters. The sound quality is good.
This book is the follow up for 'Diviner's Prophecy'. I do recommend reading book one: 'Diviner's Prophecy' first. I really like this book. I like it even more then the first book. I think because of the first book. I kept being curious what was going to happen next. I was cought in her web of intrique and lies.
This is the second book I have read from Nicolette Andrews. Her writing keeps your mind occupied and it leaves no room for other stuff. I didn't finished this audiobook very quick. It took me several days to finish it. Even now the story has ended for me. It still occupies my mind and I am thinking of how I think it is going to end.
As Maea spirals closer to her fate, she and her companions seek shelter in a neighboring kingdom. Branded as traitors, Maea and her companions arrive in Sanore, the royal capital of Neaux. They have come seeking a way to save Johai from the spirit that has possessed him.
But the conspiracy that nearly killed her has taken root there as well and in order to change her destiny Maea must make an alliance with her enemy. Though she swore to find a way to save Johai, destiny is calling her to stop Adair. Before lives are lost in this struggle for thrones.
I absolutely loved every page of it. Maea seemed to grow and mature, and I liked how much stronger and independent she has become. All the characters were well developed, each with their own personality and backstory. I get to know a little more about Johai and the Spector, as well as Beau and Damara.
However, my favorite character was Jon. As the story progressed I grew to care for him, and I absolutely loved how he has transformed from the first book-he seemed to care for Maea and overall was a fun character.
Overall this was a very enjoyable book. There's magic, mystery, action, politics, romance - everything a good fantasy story needs. Can't wait to read the next one.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.
The characters are just as engaging as the first book, and I appreciated how vividly they are described. I continued to loathe the characters that deceived Maea, and was fully on the edge of my seat to find out what was going to happen and who would come out on top! Maea definitely continues to grow and develop in this book, and I really enjoyed watching her figure out what type of person she wants to be. So many obstacles are thrown her direction, and looking back I don’t know that she could have handled them in the first book. I appreciated the narration once again in this book, and loved how the tone of each character was done to perfection. The listener could envision how the characters felt in each scene based on the narrator’s vocal changes. I’m totally captivated and looking forward to finding out what happens next! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Hat a fast paced, exciting, still to be finished story. I was on the edge of my seat for the last few chapters. Maea is still struggling with her destiny, while everything around her is going to hell. King Adair has made his first move in what is to be a major takeover of Neaux. Princess Arlene is fighting back. I’m off to read the third book to find out the conclusion. Highly recommend.
I didn't enjoy this sequel quite as much as the first book but still found it readable. It seemed that our heroine was manipulated - and persuaded - just a little too much and too easily to be plausible. The revelations of Imperial plotting & betrayals did, somewhat, make up for these other smallish shortcomings however so the experience was not a total loss. I think we can thank Meia's divinations for this saving grace. I can only hope that Book 3 ties everything up neatly.
The intrigue and suspense continue into the second edition in this thrilling series. The plot continues to twist and turn as Maea tries to navigate yet another court but this time she knows she can trust no one as she tries to save all. This book was much more my speed with the opulent grandeur of Court offset with the bloodiness of battles of The betrayed. Allies and heroes arise as saviors fall.
For most of this book I was full of questions and frustrated thinking that I must have missed something, but it appears that this was intentional and hopefully the final book will resolve the questions I have about the specter and the Biski. I think I have finally worked out the plots and players between the Danhad and the Neaux, although there is still more story there, but I'm looking forward to seeing resolutions in the final book.
audible listen... I liked this story line better than book 1. Maea is town between love and her destiny and among all that she continues to find herself in the midst of political betrayals. Full of twists and turns will Maea be able to unravel the mysteries that surround her and know who she can truly trust? A good and interesting fantasy read!
This story was much better than Book 1. It picked up where Book 1 left off and continued onwards. It also ends in a cliffhanger so be prepared. I feel like the author is getting better at telling the story of Maea and the other characters. The narrator is definitely doing a better job this time around. I'd definitely recommend listening to it but be ready to jump into the next story right away!
The second book of this trilogy is filled with intrigue and uncertainty. Maea is pulled in so many directions, by so many people, not knowing who to trust. She has lost much, and book three is slated to bring it all together. This book is very well written and expertly sets the stage for what is to follow.
The story is basically a good one. The writing leaves a bit to be desired. As does the grammar. Maea is often very immature. There is enough to keep my interest, and I know I will read the next.
ARC review For a audible For honest review joehi and no are trying to protect meea the deer as she trying to break the curse that pledges joehi as they hide from the Denham and king oder . I'm finding that I am enjoying this series alot.
I’m so addicted to this series. The suspense and wonder keeps me on my toes. I’ve cried a few times during this story but I cannot wait to see how it all ends. Will they be able to contain this evil and save her love? I cannot wait to find out!
Maea is a diviner. she is trying to free Johai. this book is amazing. i've never read a book like this in my life with the plots and the other things in this story . I was so glad to find this diviner's series.
Maea and Johai escape to Sanore in Neaux. Maea hopes to find a way to save Johai but once there her goal shifts to stop now King Adair and his plans and well as the birth of his son. Eventually she joins forces with Duke Jon Sixton who is a member of the order of the Oak it will surprise how she does it because I was definitely shocked. That decision pushes Johai further away from her which I didn't like because I thought that this was their chance to grow more closer and resolve their differentcences but you have to read the book to find that out. But on the other hand I know why she did it. While staying in Sanore she finds a Biski named Elenna who see also sees in her visions when she first arrived there. Elena has similar powers as Maea and informs her that there may be a slight chance to save Johai. But in all of this there is also the mystery of who was behind Princess Sarelle's death. I loved the high stakes the characters was up against in Book 2.
Diviner’s Curse by Nicolette Andrews is book two in the Diviner’s Trilogy that I listened to on audio narrated by Anna Castigloni. This book is outside my usual reading genre but I did enjoy it and look forward to reading book three Diviner’s Fate. I enjoyed book two more than book one. Nicolette does a great job pulling you into the storyline. I just had to know how they were going to end it. I will let you know book two also ends on a cliffhanger. Anna did a great job narrating. I enjoyed the different voices she uses for the different characters. It makes it really easy to keep up with the storyline. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Fantasy Royal books.
