My Billionaire Cowboy in Boots

Stuck together

I’m an ex-marine, scarred by war, and a devastating divorce, trying to find peace while playing cowboy on our family ranch. I just want to be left alone. I also happened to create something that the military wanted, which made me a fortune.

She’s a chef fresh from culinary school, running from something, and hired against my wishes as our cattle drive cook. Her bold spirit ignites a flame within me—but I won’t be burned again. She’s everything open and giving, I’m anything but.

Stranded away from camp with her during a storm kicks in my protective instincts. My focus is on keeping us both safe, not just from the storm—but also from our growing attraction.

This is a recipe for disaster. Even as I fight it and wonder if she’s just after my money, I admit that I would never have guessed that two people so different could find solace together.

Now if only I could believe the lies I’m telling myself and keep my heart from admitting that this time, it could be the perfect mix.

This is the long novella that started it all...

I’m not much of a cowboy romance reader but I always have a thing for characters who work in the cooking world. Also, I hadn’t heard of the cattle drive yet, so I thought this was a good starting point.
The story focuses on two main characters who are Alex, a woman cook looking for a new job, and Colt, a cowboy whose goal is to take care of the family ranch. Their attraction is immediate but this will not lead them to be glued for the entire story. One aspect of this novella is the lack of hot scenes. Just some kisses scenes. So if you want to read something not pushed this story is for you. For half the story the novella proceeds well and it’s interesting to see a piece of cowboy life outside their ranch.
The female lead is a beautiful character and her choice to leave everything to embark on a new path does her credit. On the other hand, I didn’t like the male character at all. If left alone it’s pretty bearable, but once Alex enters its orbit he begins to think like a teenage boy. And his behavior has degenerated towards 58% of the book. That coincides when the two characters separate from the rest of the group and then have a way to "confront" themselves.

SPOILER

What I didn’t like was the irrational behavior of Colt toward Alex during a situation that could be resolved or developed in another way. The situation was this: one of the pack mules that carried the kitchen supplies that were under the responsibility of Alex and Tim, a young cowboy who took part in the cattle drive, go crazy and ran away. Tim went to look for the mule and while Alex fixes the mess that the mule has done Colt arrives. Instead of asking what happened he attacks Alex verbally and pitting the consequences of her mistake. This part makes no sense because how can Colt know what happened and blame it on Alex? What made me frown even more comes later: Alex is getting ready to bring back the mule when the weather situation is terrible so looking for an animal in that situation is not convenient. And Colt doesn’t stop her. Indeed he screams: "Don’t expect me to like to save your butt when you get lost." ??? She is recently hired, it's her first cattle drive and you let her go with an imminent storm coming?? Mostly she is the COOK. How are you gonna feed your employees? This drama doesn't stand out and is presented too forcibly making it obvious where the author wanted to go. If he had put more pressure or she had gone secretly the scene would have made more sense. Pages later, when Tim pops up with the mule found (what a coincidence) Colt admits "I guess I jumped to conclusions". I wish you hadn’t done it so I don't read this part.

END SPOILER.

Another thing that left me neutral about the development of the story was the sudden disappearance of the investor. It would have been interesting if the author had created some drama around his figure since he has a "history" with Alex. Since this is a novel there isn't much drama but their potential was.
The character I didn’t expect to adore despite his few appearances is Colt’s father, Nathan. He left me a pleasant feeling and I hope there will be a story with him and Colt’s mother as protagonists because it would be interesting to read their love story.
In the end, it’s a fine novel to read, apart from the choice of the author to have developed that scene in that particular way.

Her Accidental Forever -
Colton had given up on love after his divorce, but something stirred within him the moment he met Alex, which shook him to the core, so he tried to do everything possible to not have to be around her. However, everything changed after they started the cattle drive and they had to spend time together, which led to their attraction for each other growing. Unfortunately, their insecurities nearly cost them their happiness, but their matchmaker managed to help them get a chance at a happily ever after.

This heartfelt story, had unpredictable emotional moments that caught me off guard, but still kept me eagerly turning the pages to see how it would end. This is the first book that I have read that was written by this author, but i5 definitely won’t be the last, as I really enjoyed reading it.

I received a copy of this book free and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a good quick read from a "new to me" author. I was pleasantly surprised with this book. Colt is ex military and has returned to his family ranch a much different man from when he left. His ex wife did not want him with his past military demons so she left him for someone else. Alex has an ex fiance that she left also leaving a good job because he was her boss. When she shows up on the ranch for a job interview she is turned down by Colt but his dad intervenes and hires her anyway - to be cook for a trail ride. Interesting concept since she has no experience riding or cooking over a camp fire but how hard can it be to adapt? Will these two be able to get along with each other long enough to get the cattle where they need to be without killing each other or falling for each other?

Ich fand das Buch wirklich großartig. Die Charaktere waren gut gezeichnet, das Setting stimmig und es machte total viel Spaß das Buch zu lesen....

Warum also dann nur 4 Sterne?

This is my first book by Eliza McJames, and I'd picked it up from my vast (yes, not kidding!) TBR because I liked the blurb. A female chef running the show during a cattle drive? Well, because I didn't know what that was, I was all the more motivated to read on! Eventually I discovered that a cattle drive is described as involving "trail-riding horses; cows, dust, manure, and hungry cowboys; and cooking over an open fire for a bunch of uncouth, foul-mouthed cowboys." So a female taking on that role was definitely exemplary, and that for me kept me hooked to the book. Plus of course the romance, which I enjoyed very much. It's a clean, just-kisses romance but with lots of sizzle, and its short length is sure to give you a very satisfying afternoon of literary indulgence while the kids take a nap.

This is my first Eliza McJames book, but it certainly won't be the last!

Chef Alex wants a job, any job. Employment agent Emily, who happens to be the ranch manager's ex-wife, apparently thinks it's funny to send a woman to work as cook at a dude ranch that's employed only male cooks for over a hundred years. Ranch manager Colt hires Alex, almost as a bet, because he likes her chutzpah. Amidst wisecracks, comic situations, and a hint of melodrama, Colt and Alex bond as a couple.

In real life, I'd say Alex ought to give it another six months to make sure she loves the man after the initial hormone reaction runs its course, but this is a romantic comedy. If you think ridiculous situations and the Western States are romantic, you'll love this short sweet romance.

I loved the characters! Their chemistry was off the charts and they were both stubborn but lovable. Nathan (dad) and Tim made for fun side characters and this book had me hooked! I think my only complaint is that they didn’t have enough time in this short book for it to make sense to have a proposal. Might’ve worked better to have an epilogue 3-6 months later of a proposal because this was wrapped up too fast and I wanted a few more smooches and for it to feel believable that they would get married. Otherwise the writing was amazing and it was easy to sink into this story!

A fun western romance takes place on a cattle drive. The ranch has created an opportunity for paying guests to have the experience to camp out and ride with the cowboy's. They're treated to chuck wagon meals and sleeping on the ground. Alex is the chef, she cooks all the meals and travels with them. Happy endings.

Yippee hi toe yea. It’s a good one. One stubborn chef who really needs a job is hired , by his dad. But the son doesn’t want her. He thinks she is after his money. Funny thing, she doesn’t know he has money. And he doesn’t know how good a cook she can be. Off for the cattle drive where she excels and he bombs

Besides this being a short read, it was also a case of instant attraction. When Alex arrives at the ranch for a position of chef, she was unaware that it would be as a trail chef. Although her services were declined, his father thought she would be the perfect fit.
Again a book I have enjoyed by this author.

I think Colt and Alex have met their match, in each other. Reading My Billionaire Cowboy in Boots was a fun experience. Can Colt learn to trust again and not think everyone is after his money. Will Abby have enough to prove her worth? Great read.

Good story. Could have stood to resolve more of the conflicts in the plot. Ending was a little clipped.

Colt is not pleased when he discovers his ex has sent a female to be the cook for the cattle drive. Alex is caught off guard when she goes to interview as the ranch chef only to discover that she was tricked. Will she get the job? Why did his ex do it? What happens when his dad gets involved?
