There is really nothing good I can say about this book. I didn't like it--at all.

I found the whole book completely ridiculous--from the story to the characters actions. My face looked something like this the whole time I was reading it:

Matt and Lance are cowboys on the rodeo circuit who used to be friends but now hate each other because reasons. One minute they're punching each other the next they're having a heart-to-heart while Matt is naked in the bathtub. Matt is straight, btw.

Lance bends over to put the empty shot glass down and his cheek accidentally brushes against my hanging dick. Fuck, fuck, shit. The feel of his cheek against me is electric and warm.

Accidentally? Riiiight.
you keep using that word photo: you keep using that word you-keep-using-that-word_zpse9c3017d.gif

Neither the writing nor the sex scenes worked for me. Every time they had sex there were creamy juices, salty juices, warm juices, hot juices...

Nuts tight, his legs shake and a little squirt is released, followed by a long, intense stream of his own creamy juices into my lapping mouth.

...I squirt my hot juices into his mouth. I moan from the bowels of my gut as my body spazzes and convulses in ecstasy.

...he fills my throat with his warm and coating fluids. His juices flow down the back of my throat like a waterfall.

My juice release, as his warmth fills inside me. His dick vibrates as my ass, shivering tight clenches.

There are 8 more mentions of juices. To be fair, 3 of those aren't referring to jizz so. Also, call me finicky, but I have a problem with mentioning bowels during sexy times. All the editing mistakes didn't help, either.

There's a scene where Matt decides he needs to tell Lance some stuff about his past and why it's so difficult for him to trust. So he takes him to a diner and there spills his guts about being . Lance is properly shocked and asks sensitive questions, you know, in-between bites of his delicious sandwich.

Lance covers his mouth with his hand. He dips his sandwich in the Au Jus sauce, completely drenching the bread on his sandwich, and takes a bite Finally he speaks...

A, why the hell do you take someone out in public to have this conversation? And B, how does anyone keep eating during this conversation?

I also didn't like Matt at all. His internal monologues were irritating and immature. He also kept jerking Lance along. I don't know why Lance kept coming back. One minute they were giving each other orgasms, the next Matt is kicking Lance out of his hotel room/house/life. Then he runs back and apologizes and sticks his tongue back down Lance's throat and the cycle starts all over again.

Thank you, oh gods of Amazon, for letting me read this book for FREE on Prime. Because even a penny more, and I would have been asking for a refund.

This was the most ridiculous, poorly written story; the two MCs acted like children. The first-person POV was artificial and read like a 12-year-old writing a diary. The "oh, he's so hot" thoughts came out of nowhere. This was a GFY. Maybe. I don't fucking know. Or care.

Certainly, there was no plot or actual character development, just two "cowboys" (it pains me to associate that word with THIS book) running around, hating each other, then fucking each other, then running from each other. Then one cooks chicken spaghetti in an apron.

Also, Piper, honey, see there's this punctuation mark called a COMMMA; it looks like this:

,

There are rules for how and where you use it. For example, there is a difference between these two sentence:

Did you see Matt?

and

Did you see, Matt?

The first means you're looking for Matt; the second means you're wondering if Matt saw what you saw. Are you with me?

Without the comma, it all goes to hell and high water. You need fucking commas, ok?

I'm unduly angry. It's not entirely your fault, Piper. I know better than to trust Prime books. But maybe you should hire an editor next time.

3.5 I Popped My M/M Cherry...WOW! I did it and what a great book to lose my male loving virginity..

For full review of this book please visit Dawn's SPRR Page

I have a couple of quotes that I live my life by..one is "never say never"  this one came in handy with reading my first M/M book with my friend and co-blogger Tara..  We were some of the last of the 11 of us to "pop our cherry." so to speak!  Some of us on the blog will keep their "cherries" forever I think..lol

This book was the perfect introduction into this literary genre that I had yet to explore.  The boys in this book were rodeo hotties that tight roped a fine line between love and hate for each other.  The feelings that were being brought to the forefront of Matt's libido were foreign and made him question his entire sexuality.  Matt is a rough and tumble bull riding cowboy, so why was he having sexual fantasies about his rival on the tour Lance..  He hated Lance, right?

"He's still watching me too.  It's making me horny, I can feel my dick start to throb.  I've never reacted this way before, not from anyone, not from just the way someone looks at me." Matt

Lance was portrayed as the hot, rope yielding, womanizing cowboy and the reality behind the facade was a man that preferred..well men!  Aren't all the good ones..gah!  Anyways, Lance started to see the burn behind the wall that Matt had fully erected around his heart.  Could two cowboys find their true selves in the lifestyle that surrounded them?  Well read it and find out..

"He rams me harder, as one of his hands leave my ass check and he squeezes around my hand, helping me stroke myself."

This was an easy read and felt like a toe in the water for this genre..I am not totally convinced it is a genre I can read on a regular basis, but I am adding to my TBR list and not judging a book by it's cover..

I wanted to read this book because it's short, based in Houston, and about the Houston Rodeo. I really enjoy gay for you books but only when they are done the right way, with some level of credibility. Seriously! What GFY man who's never had feelings for another man until that first time would really be gungho about giving head? What GFY man swallows his first time giving head?

This book was so ridiculously bad it was funny. Matt doesn't want to jeopardize his rodeo career and yet he takes Lance on a date in public. Usually when characters spend any time in foster care and are abused, my heart goes out to them. Matt has never told anyone the truly horrid details of his time in foster care except a little to his best friend, but wait, he hooks up with Lance, his sworn rival and after a few kisses, thinks he can truly trust Lance with his deepest, darkest secrets. Yeah, whatever.

This book also uses the word pecker. WTF? Is cock, dick, penis not good enough? Pecker is officially my least favorite synonym for penis. Any book that uses that word will automatically get one star deducted from its rating LOL.

I first saw this book as a giveaway at a Facebook party and after reading the description added it to my TBR. This was my first book by Piper Kay and I must say, once I got used to reading in the 'first person' it was enormously entertaining. The characters were sexy and hot! The language was fun and gritty, different from a lot of m/m western I've read. Perhaps Piper has first hand knowledge of cowboying and the rodeo circuit because I felt like I was there. I could smell the hay, see and feel the hard bucking of the broncos. Piper did a phenomenal job with set description and I found myself riveted to each scene. I immediately bought her 'A Perfect Passion' and look forward to more from her!

This book has heaps of strong reviews, averaging 4.4 stars as I write my own review. I think I must have missed something here because, although I liked the story, there were quite a number of things that I found off putting. I would suggest you check out the reviews of others before deciding on this book based solely on my review because it seems I might be the odd one out (I haven't yet read the other reviews as I never read them before writing my own review but I will check some out later to see what others picked up on that escaped me). Anyway...

Firstly, I did like reading the book, the story wasn't bad and it was nice way to while away some time. It wasn't earth shattering, just a story about a guy who discovers he has unexpected feelings for another man after never having felt that way about a guy before. In this gay-for-you/enemies-to-lovers story, Matt is fearful of coming out on the rodeo circuit which threatens his relationship with Lance. I just had a few minor issues that prevented this book from reaching over 3 stars for me.

I think the main thing that I struggled with from the beginning was the first person, present tense POV. Instead of it providing a deep connection to the character of Matt, I found it somewhat uncomfortable reading. Probably just a personal thing...

Another pet peev of mine is the use of some language that appeared in this book, the sort of language that I find unromantic or lacking in true passion. There was overuse of the word 'pucker' and I didn't like statements like "I squirt my hot juices.." or "..several little squirts, and then a huge discharge.." - it all sounded too clinical and like a festering wound!

At one point, Matt makes a confession about something traumatic in his past. I just didn't feel the emotion which was similar to other parts of the story where the conversations appeared a little stilted without a natural flow. Plus I found it unbelievable that a bull-rider not only had never ridden a horse but was scared of them!

So all-in-all, it was okay for a quick read, so long as you enjoy the first person present tense and aren't as adverse to some of the language as I am! And it was only $0.99 so maybe I shouldn't complain so much. :)

This was my first M/M read and it was perfect. I wanted something short to pop my cherry and boy did Piper Kay pop my cherry. I was unsure going in. Wondering how I would feel reading about 2 guys, but mother of holy shit was this hot. Piper managed to pack a lot into a short story. I'm so glad I started out with her book. She eased me (literally) into the m/m genre. This may be the start of something special. You may have created a monster Piper.

Matt and Lance are hardcore bull riders. Once friends they now despise each other. Lance is carefree he is the one who knows what he wants and is not afraid to go after it. Matt is more confined in what he was taught to believe and what he feels. Matt knows how he feels and after almost losing what matters he finally mans up.

I'm so glad this story was short, it was just the perfect slice of male on male I needed to move on to the next one. This story made my vagina tingle in places I thought was slightly broke when it came to m/m. I will always remember you Piper - my first and what an honor it was

This was my first cowboy m/m book and I was truly amazed how much I enjoyed reading this story. I found my self trying not to read ahead to see what happened next between Lance and Matt. The tention between the leading men was easily felt and my heart sank more than once when times became rough between them.
I hope that Ms. Kay can find a way to write these gentlemen into another story in the future. She has a gifted way of drawing in the reader so they feel as though they are a part of the story as well. I look forward to finding more stories by Ms Kay.

Its Rodeo Roundup time and bull riding champion runs into his long time nemesis Lance. Matt, who finds himself unexpectedly attracted to Lance begins a journey discovery and acceptance with his sexuality. Lust and passion erupts like a volcano between the two they fall in love but not without a few bumps in the road. Lance is very patient with Matt throughout their ups and downs, as they both deal with past secrets and a jealous ex. I loved this book and highly recommend it! Will leave you wanting more...

This is a very hot hot hot m/m story about bull rider competitors Lance Laskey, a gorgeous long haired tattooed bull rider wow how could one not love that... and his rival Matt Stevens who is convinced that Lance created an accident that hurt Matt in California. They are scheduled to meet at a rodeo in Houston and their animosity is obvious. Matt also thinks that Lance flirts with him which makes him uncomfortable as Matt has has several sexually charged dreams about sexy Lance. Matt is concerned for his career and being gay bi whatever doesn't fit that mold. Matt was in foster care and had a horrific experience. Lance shows up at Matts room and apologizes there is definitely a chemistry there oh yes these two when they are around water be still my heart. Matt and his mixed up emotions scream NO NO NO NO while I scream YES YES YES please. and not for the first time Matt walks away...sigh silly mixed up boy......so off to the rodeo they go each draw mean tough bulls. he riders must stay on their bulls for 8 seconds. Matt has a good ride. A blast from Lance's past Lee shows up stirs up Lance he is thrown and hurt. Sweetly Matt comes to his rescue in front of everyone.Lee also show up to Lances hospital room ruh roh.....Matt invites Lance to recover at his cabin Lance agrees. More sexy hotness ensuesMatt shares his foster home past and the abuse that happened there any why he has trouble with emotions. Matt runs Lance off with some unkind actions. They meet up again in Oklahoma City at a rodeo awkward.......... and with every reader hoping for a reconciliation. You need to read to find out. I do wish we got to know the character backgrounds a bit more Im praying at Pipers feet for a sequel please please

4 HOLY SMOKIN' COWBOYS

I never thought I would or could read an M/M romance, but boy was this hot and steamy and everything in between.

Thank you Piper Kay for popping my M/M cherry with a couple of smoking hot rodeo cowboys.

Matt and Lance are hot and I loved how Piper brought them together and loved watching their relationship develop.

I really felt for Matt and how he struggles with his feelings and what he thinks is the “right thing” to do. I was so caught up in this story and what direction Matt would take.

Matt
I suck his bottom lip into my mouth and tongue him with several taunting licks then pull out. He groans loader. I remain frozen for several seconds with my lips pressing softly against his. He starts to nibble and tease my lips with short and sharp flicks of his tongue and then he puckers back together with my bottom lip between his. Fucking shit! I pull away, gasping a long and deep breath.

“I’m sorry, I really am.” I turn and walk away from him.

Watching these two beautiful men work towards a relationship with each other, in a very male dominated arena as the bull ring, was a very entrancing story. I could feel the heat between them as I read and it made me weak at the knees just knowing these two men felt so much for each other.

It was hot, romantic and sexy. Full of tension, guilt, passion and lust. It doesn’t matter who you are or who you fall in love with – at the end of the day – love is love. This is what Piper instilled in me with this story.

Piper Kay – you truly had me glued to the pages…

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

There are things I both like and dislike about this book. I would probably give it 3.5 stars but thanks to some really hot sex scenes I bumped it up to 4 stars.

Matt and Lance are bitter rivals on the rodeo circuit. And this is mainly because they are both attracted to each other and are trying to fight it. But after finally admitting it to themselves and each other they decide to see where things lead. Matt is having a much harder time coming to terms with his sexuality and their relationship and is constantly pushing Lance away. This leads to a lot of tension and drama between the two.

There were only a few issues I had with the book. The dialogue seemed a bit off. Maybe its because I don't read many western/cowboy books. But it just didn't seem natural to me. The other thing was while the sex scenes were really hot they seemed to belong to a couple that was much more experienced with m/m sex than these two characters were. Having said that the scenes were still really hot and while reading them I didn't really care that it didn't fit the characters. ;)

Overall, if you enjoy a hot m/m romance (especially with hot cowboys) you might want to pick this one up. Definitely for those over.

~!~ Amateurish writing, but still very enjoyable ~!~

~!~ Amateurish writing, but still very enjoyable ~!~

Matt and Lance are rivals on the rodeo circuit. They used to be friends, until Matt walked away from their friendship because he didn't like the way Lance was looking at him and the way Lance was making him feel.
This cowboy romance is told in first person through the eyes of Matt. He is quite confused about his feelings for Lance and that tends to make him angry at Lance until Matt finally decides to try to understand why he feels the way he does.
There is definitely some hot sex scenes and swearing. I don't believe that I have ever commented before about swearing in a book, but I'm going to this time. It's not only pretty excessive, but it's incredibly creative. There are a lot of phrases used that I've never heard before, and somehow I doubt that I'll ever hear again.
Even though I felt that the writing is a little amateurish, I did still enjoy the overall story. I had to get through the first few chapters before I was able to really get into the story.
FYI...This book has a nice HEA ending. No annoying cliffhanger here!

I really really wanted to like this story. It sounded good and I was excited. It starts off pretty good and I am intrigued by why he hates Lance so bad. And then he starts to out of no where have these feelings for him, even though he hates him and was just fighting with him. Then they end up making out in his room. The relationship was weird and moved too fast and it was very confusing and they have no connection at all. I also feel if he has never been with a man before things would go slower and progress instead of HIM being the one to perform oral right away and being the aggressor. There were lots of errors and at times they were very distracting. Also the use of words regarding his penis and testicles was annoying. Like his "basket" lol. Please, NEVER use words like this again, it kills ANY steaminess the story may of had, which it lacked there also for M/M. Also in the same sentence the author used dick, rod and cock... pick a word, please. Sigh, the story just really, really lacked and didn't make sense. If things were a bit differen't, it had potential for sure .

This is the first book by Piper Kay that I've read! I won it in a giveaway & I have to say that I didn't know it was an M/M story when I won it. This is not the first book I've read that had M/M characters or story that involved M/M relationships. I have to say I loved the story! I gave 4 stars because the were some spelling errors and a spot where it sounded like Lance was talking to himself instead of Matt because their names were in the wrong place. I can totally understand Matt's dilemma as to why am I having feelings for a man. The awkward feeling of what is going on with me. How he deals with it. I do wish we could of had a little of Lance's POV . I thought the steamy scenes were beautifully done . The angst of Matt dealing with his feelings & his fear of screwing up and hurting Lance made me want to tell him it would be ok.! Piper totally drew me in! Kudos Piper!!

If cowboys are your thing, you're going to love this story. Eight Second Cowboy shows us that love and hate are just two sides to the same coin and with the blink of an eye, or the flip of the wrist, that coin can turn from one side to the other in a flash.

Matt is often hot and cold, burying himself in denial for what seems like an eternity. But when this over-bearing cowboy commits, it is on.

Lance is often the character that you just want to protect and take care of. The man spends most of the book getting stomped on--both literally and figuratively.

This story is funny and the cowboys are sizzling sexy. You just have to know that you're going to need some ice to cool things off when a Piper Kay book is near.

I was given this as an arc copy in return for an honest review.

If ever there were two characters who have a funny way of showing how they really feel, Piper has created them with this book. Both were very strong solid characters that had a stubborn will in their ways. The question was, who was going to show their hand of friendship first or was it just going to end in a brawl.

This is a good all round story supporting the life of a the bull riding community and it made a nice change to read of a setting I was not familiar with. All her terminology was authentic and well researched to make this a believable interesting tale.

When two people are unexpectedly attracted to one another it doesn't matter that they are the same sex and that is a lesson Matt learns the hard way.Determined to stay single and protect his heart after having it broken by a girl who was his first love Matt is the consummate bachelor. So when he is attracted to Lance who is also his biggest rival and all around least favorite person it is more than a shock.Piper Kay manages to make you see two human beings falling for one another so touching that being same sex is secondary to the love story. Everyone deserves to find love and the journey of these two is delightful.

REVIEW
This is a short M/M Erotic Romance by Piper Kay.

The story is about Lance and Matt. Both bull riders and both out for vengeance pretty much. Matt was Lance’s mentor years back and now they are mortal enemies. But why? Well you will need to read the story. But I will say. Can old friends become new lovers?

Although short the story is strong however I wish it had more detail to it. It was well written.
Very HOT !!!!

After a good fight between the two of them, it doesn’t look like there could ever be peace with either of them. Until, the day Lance comes to Matt’s hotel room. Lance awakens feelings Matt has never experienced before. But is it worth taking the chances of ruining his career? Is this something they both are willing to take the chances with?

I am usually happy to find other Texas authors.  There are three things that bother me about this book. First, it's in dire need of an editor. Second, the thoughts and conversations felt a bit juvenile. Third, although the sex scenes were hot, they were a bit unbelievable for two fairly inexperienced lovers.
