I love a rockstar. It’s not easy, but most of the time he makes it worth it. Afterall, I was the one who agreed to a semi-open relationship when he’s on the road without me. As the band gets more and more popular, it’s impossible to ignore the images of him with groupies on social media. When my ex meets up with me to apologize and points out Wells’ indiscretions, how can I continue to deny the commitment I need?
Wells Tollefson
Commitment means one thing, or maybe two—loss of freedom and complication. I don’t want either. I saw what it did to my mother when my jerk of a father tried to dominate her life. Noah wants me to meet his parents. But with our current situation, what will they think of me? Now his ex wants to see him, and I have to let him go. My friends tell me I might lose him, and it hurts . So, I try to open up to him. At the same time, I’m caught in a family crisis and I need Noah by my side. Is it time to face the music and let my heart lead the way?

Christie Gordon is the author of steamy, heartfelt gay romance novels that explore the emotional journey of men discovering themselves and finding love. It all started when she stumbled upon MM fanfiction by accident—and let's just say, it was love at first read. Inspired by the genre's mix of passion and complexity, Christie transitioned from reading about men in love to writing her own stories. After taking fiction writing classes at a local community college, she published her first MM romance novel in 2009 with a small press, and she’s never looked back. When she’s not writing, Christie watches boys-love dramas, creates digital art, or is serenaded by her snoring one-eyed rescue pug. A graduate of both Electrical Engineering (BS) and Business Administration (MBA), she spends her "day job" navigating the high-tech world, but her heart belongs to the characters who live in her books. Christie currently resides in the Phoenix metro area, though she’s also lived in California’s Bay Area and Minnesota (which probably explains her deep love of pumpkin spiced latte coffees and hockey). She’s also the proud mother of two young-adult sons who provide plenty of material for stories—usually in the form of chaotic shenanigans. But no matter what, Christie’s always up for a new adventure, whether it's on the page or in the real world.
This is a well written rock star romance with strong characters in Noah and Wells. The author brings a sweet romance with a bit of anxiety as they navigate their relationship and love. She moves the story fluidly and delivers a great read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Wells & Noah - This is the first Road to Rocktoberfest book I've read. I found it very in line with Gordon's other books, especially the Mesa Boys series. The characters are likeable and the story is engaging. Wells and Noah have an arrangement and it seems like Wells gets the biggest benefit. He gets to come home to Noah waiting for him but he also gets to avoid being lonely on the road. Noah is not a doormat, he says himself that he has standards and understands he may have compromised a bit when agreeing to their arrangement. But he does let Wells know how he feels. Wells has quite a few revelations when he comes home, he realizes how much he cares for Noah, he realizes he was wrong pushing their agreement onto Noah and he realizes that if he doesn't examine how he really feels and take action, he will lose Noah if he keeps going as he has been. I've enjoyed the naivete that Gordon's characters hold, as young men out on their own, they are not completely worldly and ready to handle all life throws at them. They have their friends and family to count on, the friends definitely set the MC's straight when they are out of line. I enjoyed this book and will add the rest of the Rocktoberfest books to my TBR.
This book is yet another enjoyable and eloquently written book by C. Gordon. Recommended for fans of: Sweet and steamy romances & easy and enjoyable reads Not recommended for fans of: Books with lots of drama, angst, and suspense & complex characters and plots
The story starts with two main characters, Noah and Wells, already a few months into the relationship. Noah is deeply in love and committed, while Wells appears distant and uncertain about his feelings. Fearing the loss of their connection, Noah agrees to Wells's request to sleep with other women during his band's tour. His infidelity hurts Noah and further complicates the relationship. Noah's willingness to make concessions to preserve the relationship borders on neediness and clinginess while Wells grapples with his emotions, unsure about his feelings and future with Noah, makes it challenging for readers to fully connect with either character. However, the dynamic changes after Wells fully accepts his love for Noah. The challenges they face on the road to a HEA are lightly touched in the storyline, with limited exploration of complex issues and feelings. The main focus of the story lies in the dilemma of whether Wells will acknowledge his feelings for Noah and agree to meet his parents. More in-depth exploration of the character's emotional reactions and reasoning behind their choices, along with more drama and suspense, would significantly improve reader engagement and experience. However, the author masterfully compensates for a fairly vanilla, straightforward, and uneventful plot with excellent writing, abundant physical attraction, and hot, steamy scenes between Noah and Wells.
Pros: Well-written and easy to read Feel-good and hot story First-person narrative and compelling writing HEA, no cliffhanger
Cons: Lack of drama and suspense Missing deeper insight into characters' personalities, reasoning, and emotions "Vanilla" and straightforward plot
Disclaimer: This review reflects my independent and genuine thoughts on the book, which I received as an Advance Reader Copy (ARC).
Loose Strings by Christie Gordon is part of the multi-author Road to Roctoberfest series. I’ve read all the Rock U books and I loved them. I had great expectations for this book and it didn’t disappoint me.
Loose Strings offers a raw and honest glimpse into the complexities of a rock star’s life on the road and the unwavering love of the man waiting home. The story is both refreshing and realistic, giving the reader a heartfelt and emotional journey.
At the core of the story is the tumultuous relationship between Wells, the charismatic rock star, and Noah, the devoted partner left behind. Christie beautifully captures the emotional rollercoaster of their relationship, and I kept rooting for their love to conquer all obstacles. I, too, yearned for Wells to commit to Noah, and this longing fueled my desire to keep turning the pages.
One of the standout aspects of this book is its portrayal of the intricacies of an open relationship. Christie delves into the details of this unconventional arrangement, painting a nuanced picture of the challenges and emotional growth it can bring to the characters. Noah is trying hard to make others happy and look after them, and this is what led him to deal with the challenges of an open relationship.
While Wells commitment issues tested my patience, Christie’s skillful storytelling allowed me to understand and empathize with his internal struggles. Ultimately, the heart of the book lies in Noah’s pursuit of happiness, which kept me engaged and invested in the unfolding story.
Loose Strings is a poignant exploration of love, commitment, and self-discovery. Christie’s storytelling is both authentic and relatable, making this book a must-read for anyone seeking an emotionally charged and thought-provoking tale of love in all its complexities.
I received an ARC from the author for free, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
This book is a sequel to Christie’s book Not Alone, and tells the story of rockstar Wells who has huge commitment issues, and his boyfriend Noah who is a definite relationship kind of guy. They are introduced to each other by Micah, Noah’s best friend and boyfriend of band mate Ash, Wells’ best friend. (Not Alone is Micah and Ash’s story, and both play key roles in this book.)
Noah knew Wells had commitment issues, but he was really into him, so agreed to Wells only hooking up with women on tour, with Noah being Wells’ exclusive male partner. This causes some friction between the two, and Wells doesn’t seem to get why Noah would be upset about it, not realizing how far Noah’s feelings have grown for him. Another big problem is Wells’ refusal to meet Noah’s family. He is afraid they won’t like him, and it is another step toward commitment. As Wells begins to realize he may lose Noah if things don’t change, he starts to take small steps toward increasing his comfort level with a more committed relationship. When a family emergency makes Wells evaluate his relationship with Noah, to see the love, care and support he gets from him, and the crucial place in his life that Noah represents, he must come to terms with elements in his past to get and keep what he truly wants and needs.
All of this plays out over the few weeks between the end of the band’s tour and their appearance at Rocktoberfest in Nevada. Lots of music related background as well as the emotional relationship work that takes place along with hikes, surfing, small town gigs, help and advice from friends, old boyfriends, and lots of PDA. Great characters, realistic problems that would arise with a difference between two diverse lifestyles and levels of commitment, the emotional ups and downs with a family crisis, and the awakening and acceptance of emotions tamped down for too long. An enjoyable read that kept me turning pages late into the night.
I received an ARC from the author and this is my voluntary review. 4.5 stars
Christie released a book in 2021 called "Not Alone" which is Ash & Micah's story. This book is Wells & Noah's story. Wells & Ash play in the same band - The Swarm. In the first book the band is just getting liftoff, and now two years later we revisit The Swarm and they are flying high and have been invited to play at Rocktoberfest, a Cochella-type of gig. Before they head to the desert, the band has a month off. Ash & Michah and Wells & Noah head to Pacifica, CA for some R&R before the band goes back on the road. This book covers their 30 days together.
Wells is a commitment-phobe. Noah agrees to let him hook-up with women while he's on the road as long as it's just for sex and no emotion is involved. And also Noah is to be Wells's only guy. As we move through the month, we see this agreement get challenged by both guys. Noah's ex tries to get back together and challenges Noah on whether Wells is the right guy for him given that Wells is hooking up with chicks. And Wells starts realizing that fulltime commitment to Noah might be appealing if he can just get over some of his fears. So both guys have some issues to resolve if they are going to stay a couple. They eventually face their challenges together (along with some assistance from Ash & Micah) and finally resolve everything and get their HEA, but not without plenty of emotional angst along the way.
This is a much lighter read than the first book. "Not Alone" is pretty dark. This one will hook you right away, but with a lot less turmoil. After the epilogue Christie gives us a nice bonus, which was really appreciated by this reader. Four stars all the way!
This is part of the multo-author Road to Rocktoberfest series. I read this as a standalone but it does follow on from another, earlier story. This is Noah and Wells' story, and on the whole I liked it. In the spirit of honesty, I did struggle with liking Wells for most of the story, it was always his way or no way and I felt for poor Noah being backed into a corner agreeing to things he didn't want because he loved Wells, and wanted to be with him. It just seemed to me Wells wanted all the good things from Noah without giving anything back, and that got really wearing.
When these two were together, it was sweet and hot. There is a high heat level here, these two can't keep from one another and there is a ton of smut - I am no prude but sometimes it didn't add to the story. I loved seeing them starting to 'date' even though they're together, and Wells slowly coming round to the idea of being with Noah totally. It also got a little wearing that they didn't talk to each other, but to their best friends instead.
All together though, I enjoyed it for the most part, and loved when they finally sorted themselves out and got their HEA. By that point I was a little annoyed with Wells again though, so it wasn't that satisfying for me.
A love story between two men who seem to be seeking two very different things from their relationship. A rock star who clings to his freedom, and a surfer who accepts a deal to have a piece of his rock star. We like to see Wells open his eyes and his heart to Noah, overcoming his fears which until now have prevented him from opening up to Noah and recognizing his feelings. A story about the fear of commitment, the fear of suffering in a relationship. Noah is perfect for Wells and when Wells overcomes his fears, he is ultimately very caring and lovable. Two such endearing characters. A beautiful story that feels good!
I never read Not Alone and I don’t know how I missed it but it never deterred me from reading Noah and Wells’s story!
To any normal sane person the concept of an open relationship is so derogatory and demeaning but to Noah it meant he could still have Wells at home for himself… until his feelings deepened…
Noah is a caring, supportive and loving man who just wants to find happiness with his person but is commitment fearing Wells the right fit?
Wells is content with their arrangement until his tour ends and he returns home to spend a month with Noah and this is where his eyes open and their journey to acceptance, love and commitment start.
“Finally, my head and my heart were talking to each other and agreeing on things.”
Both Wells and Noah had a good emotional character growth throughout their vacation with the added support of their friends Micah and Ash to guide them on the right path.
Their chemistry is so strong with a beautiful deep connection!
Christie Gordon has penned a wonderful story revolving around a rock star with emotional hang ups and his sweet, caring surfing IT “Cali boy” who shows him what love is!
I voluntarily received an ARC and this is my honest review.
I've read the Rock U books, so I had high expectations for Gordon's Road to Rocktoberfest 2023. This book did not disappoint. I didn't expect to like Wells with his open relationship or Noah, because what self-respecting man excepts this type of relationship. But I did. Noah was sweet. He knew he loved Wells. He didn't love the idea of Wells being with women while on tour; but he decided that he wanted as much of the man as he was willing to give. Wells was a hot mess. It took him nearly losing Noah to get his head on straight. Gordon could have written Noah as a doormat. But choose to make him a caregiver instead. An angsty, slightly insecure caregiver. Which may be the definition of a doormat. Rather than a jerk and a user, Wells was written as clueless, also insecure. Communication clears things up. They get their HEA. But they did have to work for it. Overall, I enjoyed the book. Supportive secondary characters. Lots of kindle melting sex. I received an advance copy and this is my voluntary review.
I'm a fan of Christie Gordon's stories. I loved them all including this last one. But I have to say, I felt that in some aspects it was missing something but after I talk about this with the author, I think this may be due to the fact that I have not been able to read Not Alone yet, (the story of Ash and Micah), and I plan to rectify that as soon as I can!
Once again it feels a little cut off when reading, and certain phrases are repeated several times on almost every page, throughout the book, and I know that this author is capable of much more when writing. However, you can feel the emotion and feelings between the MCs and that it is more important. It's what I like the most about this author. The way she write about them. It's like they real people, with the flaws and doubts and fears real people feel. They're no perfect but they still are strong and honest enough to see through their mistakes to learn from them.
So as I said, I loved the story. It's entertaining, sweet and sexy. You feel the love beween the MCs and how they are willing to fight for each other. And that is something you always get when reading her books and it's why I'mgoing to continue reading them, because they have something that attracts me and makes me enjoy them and want more of them and their characters.
"It was like he was finally giving me everything I’d wanted."
I am so glad I read Not Alone before I read Loose Strings. To be honest, they are really a duet even though Not Alone is Ash and Micah's love story and, of course, this one is Wells and Noah's. Ash and Wells are too much a pair to not read together plus I don't think I would have truly understood Wells if I hadn't read both Not Alone and the prequel stories first. Not to mention Wells and Noah met in Not Alone.
Loose Strings is very different from Not Alone. Told in alternating first person we see everything through both Wells and Noah's eyes and so we understand what each man is going through. It was great watching Wells change and grow as he opened his heart up to the possibility of love. I seriously doubt anyone but Noah could have ever reached him that way.
A part of me is really sad because now it's over. I won't see any of them anymore. But I'm happy to know they are all where they should be and confident they will all have wonderful lives together.
This story had me addicted from the start!! I honestly didn't expect to like Wells much, OR his "open idea" of relationship on the road. Wells had so many hang ups on relationships growing up...with his parents fighting, then divorced, he was raised by a single mom who struggled supporting him. Noah was such a sweetheart, kind, supportive, but looking for that ONE who loved him, would be there in a relationship with him. But would this Rockstar and Tech opposite attraction really work out? Noah starts to question things and insecurities arise...Wells realize he is about to lose the best thing to ever happen and face his issues..along with a great set of friends, with their support and help...these two figure out how to achieve their HEA. Amazing chemistry between these two, lots is steamy action times...plus some Rock(y) times too....I recommend this book great way to curl up and catch up with this series!!
I received this as an ARC and leaving my honest review voluntarily.
Contains: rockstar, closeted, vers, dual pov, bi and gay rep.
Omg!!! Where to start?
Fair warning: Um, don't start this book late, or suffer the consequences.
I read the rock U series and liked it. Although it was heavier subject matter than I'm used to reading.
But this book. It falls right into my choices. It's lighter, a lot of seggs scene and an adult who has a lot to overcome. A difficult past, a man who must allow himself to love and be loved. A young man who is afraid, but who is well surrounded to get where he needs to be to live happily. Even if Noah gave Wells time to understand and accept his feelings while hurting Noah, the whole thing is written in a way that makes both look their best. Not pathetic. The writing makes the book even more captivating. Loyalty, friendship and family ties add a touching side to the story.
Bisexual and gay rep. Listen Rockstar and a very cute public proposal. What else do you want?! Just grab it. Honest truth, its awesome.
Loose Strings is the companion book to Not Alone, but as one who hasn't read that book, I was still quickly able to figure out the lay of the land and get up to speed on Wells and Noah, along with Ash and Micah to see where the relationship started and what our two MC's were thinking when they got together....
It did take me a little while to warm up to Wells, not because of his polyamorous stance, but because he was so focused on not having one love... and using the idea of one night stands to keep a part of himself back from accepting the bond he has with Noah... I found this story to be sweet and heartwarming as I got to know both men better.
Christie Gordon is able to balance this story well, bringing out Noah's caretaking and patience, Wells' fears and apprehension, and finally acceptance and also give them both a caring friend group who supported both men in their crisis.
Noah and Wells are a couple in the making. Noah knows that he loves Wells but Wells, his rockstar boyfriend on the rise, is commitment shy and afraid to trust in relationships given the disaster that was his parent's marriage. He is also not out to his mother or fully out about his bisexuality. So Noah has to settle to be with him. But the longer they are around one another the more they each want. Noah and Wells both have some growing to do. Noah needs to let Wells know that he is worth more than a partial commitment. And Wells has to believe that he is enough and he can commit because he has something to offer. Their good friends Ash and Micah help them as they work on their love story and when life intrudes with a couple of wake-up calls they both come to realize that it is important to communicate and to trust that what they have is worth asking for and committing to. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This story was part of the Road to Rocktoberfest series and was very engaging from the start.
Wells and Noah had a non-traditional start to their relationship, but they found their way through individual challenges and emotional family issues to become a solid couple. Trust and commitment problems Wells and Noah have to work through in order to build a solid relationship cause some angst but they both want their relationship to succeed. Their friends were very supportive and you want them to have a chance to build a strong foundation and grow together.
Christie Gordon writes very realistic characters, and as you are reading you become so involved in the story you don’t want to put the book down until you know everyone is going to be okay! That is a great compliment to this author and I encourage everyone to add her books to your collection.
I’ve Gotta be honest and say it took me awhile to get into this book. I think I struggled with it because I thought Noah would give Wells anything. It didn’t feel balanced. It didn’t feel right. I think this is the first book that Christie has written that I feel I’m in a fight with as my review. Wells Commitment issues, I understood that he had problems in his past, but just looking at Noah he would do anything to keep Wells. Even agreed to him having women when he was out on tour I totally don’t understand that. I think I’m just totally confused with these two because when they’re together they just are perfectly aligned. The passion between them is just off the charts they can’t keep their hands of one another, and I do believe they have a strong connection.
I received an ARC from the author, and this is me, leaving my honest review.
I just finished Loose Strings by Christie Gordon and absolutely loved the story of Wells and Noah! This is one in a series of books in the Road to Rocktoberfest 2023 and it was wonderful and kept me captivated until the very end. Wells has some issues but with Noah by his side he comes to realize that a crazy hurtful past shouldn’t define him and it’s okay to open up and find love. With the support of his band mate and best friend, Ash and a family medical emergency Wells realizes that when love finds you then you have to seize it with both hands and hold on tight. I don’t want to spoil the story so I’m not going to spill the beans but just know that it’s a great read with loving friends and found family that will melt your heart and make you want to read even more books by this author which I have to admit that I have done!
The book was well-written and kept my attention throughout. I am not a fan of open relationships, but it seemed to work for them. Or at least until it didn’t. The MC’s had a good connection, and I enjoyed their interactions, but it was heartbreaking to see Noah watch the man that he loves with women. They had a lot of rough starts, but once they got into a groove, things really worked out for them. Each of the characters had issues and trauma to overcome, and the story had me on the edge of my seat waiting for the conclusion. This is a book in a multi-author series, but you can read this book as a standalone; however, there are other books by this author that have the stories of other characters in this book. I ended up going back and reading Not Alone and I am glad I did.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a sweet, low-angst read which I wasn't expecting because of the initial status of Noah and Wells' relationship being an open one and Noah not truly being okay with this.
Wells was a bit of a player at the start and I didn't really like him, but my initial reaction to him changed not far into the book when I could see how much he really liked Noah and how keen he was to change his behaviour in order to keep Noah for good.
These two were meant to be together, they both had a lot to figure out and work through and I liked how they learned to communicate their wants and needs. Wells' being afraid of commitment was something he needed to work through and once he made the decision that Noah was the one he wanted he didn't hold back, except for being afraid to meet his parents. There were plenty of steamy scenes between the two as they work through their feelings and work out what their future holds.
I haven't read Not Alone which tells the story of Wells' bandmate and Noah's best friend's romance, but this didn't detract from this story and as important secondary characters they were easy to get to know.
The biggest drama in this book is caused by Noah's ex, an ass if I ever saw one, and while he does cause a bit of trouble, it works out for the best.
An easy read, I really enjoyed Noah and Wells' story.
Noah has always known that Wells had issues with commitment, but that didn't stop him from agreeing to become Wells's only male partner while on tour. Frictions start appearing between them as he watches Wells with the women. Wells can't understand why Noah is so upset by this because he agreed to their agreement. Being as oblivious as he is, he doesn't realize how deeply Noah has fallen for him. Wells soon starts to realize that if things don't change, he could lose Noah.. for good.
When a family emergency blindsides him, can they, and their friends, help open Wells's eyes to the love and support that Noah has always given him? Can Wells overcome his fear of commitment to show Noah that he wants him and loves only him?
I absolutely adore Noah and Wells and their story! The heat level is through the roof in this story. We get to visit with Ash and Micah too! The road to love is never easy. Insecurities raise their ugly heads and nasty exes deserve to be put in their places...out with the trash! This story unfolds beautifully! At first I was angry at Wells for how he dealt with things on the road. I won't spoil it. The reader needs to discover things for themselves. So many times I wanted to hug these boys!
Wells's quite the stinker!
I highly recommend this story!! A must read as far as I am concerned.
“This is the best. Being with you is always the best.” My heart swelled with warmth. It was always so full, like my body and head and heart were all completely connected to him. Is this what love was?’
Christie Gordon adds Loose Strings to the Road to Rocktoberfest series and it will strum your heart!
As Wells and Noah try to find a balance in what each one wants and needs in their relationship, changes in heart may end up breaking them. Finding the balance of physical and emotional may also affect the band, as it soars even higher in popularity, despite outside influences and past relationships.
Sometimes, you have to take a stand! Wells, is damaged by his parent's relationship. He has a misconception about the meaning of commitments. He insists on an open relationship with his partner, Noah. Noah, tries to be what Wells needs, but he doesn't really want to share. Noah's ex returns and wants another go. He steps between Noah and Wells, pointing out Wells' defects. Wells, notices Noah and his ex and is forced to confront his thoughts and feelings. Reforming the relationship leads to retrospection and choice confrontation. Choices and decisions need to be made. Good story of growth adn maturing. Nicely done.Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily elaving a review.
Loose Strings by Christie Gordon is a light read even though there is some heavy subject matter. Wells is a big rockstar bass player with commitment issues. He loves Noah, but it takes his a little time to admit it and allow himself to trust and fully embrace that love. He initially limits their relationship by keeping it open. Noah is very accepting of Wells' issues, even though it hurts him that Wells isn't fully committed to him alone. The story follows their growth as individuals and as a couple. It is sweet and romantic, incredibly steamy and fun, too! Romance - ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Steam - 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Humor - 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Angst - 😭😭😭 Writing - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I'm torn with this book. On one hand I love it so much and I can't get enough of Wells and Noah on the other Noah deserved so much better.
I truly believe this book is written magnificently, because I was so protective of Noah in the beginning and I actually hoped that he would dump Wells, but Wells went and turned me around.
The characters are written really well and the character development is insane.
For me the arrangement between Noah and Wells in the time before the beginning of the book was a hard no so I personally was having a really hard time. I still think this book is well written and the spice is so good.
Loose Strings by Christie Gordon is part of the multi author The Road to Rocktoberfest 2023 series. Each book is a standalone about Hot rockstars and the men who love them. This is Noah and Well's story. I have always enjoyed the way Christie Gordon writes her Rock U series books and I hoped this one for the Road to Rocktober Fest would be the same, it was just as good. I loved the characters because they have real problems just like in real life. I would definitely recommend this book and series.
This is a fast paced story about sexuality, careers, relationships, family, friends and trust.
When you add in a dysfunctional family, fame and social media…as well as a character with low self-esteem…you have a story pack with miscommunication and lots of room for mistakes.
A medical emergency brings everything to a climax.
Be prepared for a racing heart and an equally pounding pulse. Luckily the HEA is worth all the angst.
Thanks to GRR for this amazing ARC…and addition to ‘The Road to Rocktoberfest 2023.’
Loose Strings is part of "The Rock to Rocktoberfest 2023" series it follows the story of Wells, a rockstar who loves life on the road and avoids settling down due to his parents' troubled relationship. Noah, who is deeply in love with Wells, agrees to certain compromises while Wells is touring, but he desires more and struggles to maintain this facade. The story revolves around whether Wells can confront his commitment issues before Noah, his loving boyfriend, reaches a breaking point. The book is romantic, and sweet, with some angst, and I enjoyed it.
