Princess Amelia dreams of finding true love, with the help of a little magic and a loyal friend.
A lesbian fairytale, '"Princess Charming"' presents a new twist on a classic idea, creating a world where sleeping spells and mischief are matched only by the truest of loves. The words are brought to life by beautiful and dreamlike art that will leave the reader floating in a realm of fantasy where love knows no bounds.
It's always nice to see a lgbtq picture book even if this one is "safe". However, maybe I'm misconstruing normal (aka simple) picture book text as the author trying to be "safe" with her subject. Lord knows I don't have enough experience with picture books to know what's normal or not. I do know, though, that the art is amazing. You'd think that a pastel color palate would get boring, but it's soooo pretty.
I love this so much that I bought a copy to give to each of my nieces for Christmas. This is a unique and beautiful princess story that should be in the collection of anyone who loves fairytales. Both the writing and the artwork are absolutely gorgeous. The only thing that could make it more perfect would be a hardcover copy.
I gave this book to my boyfriend's 6-y/o daughter for Christmas and I read it to a bunch of my friends first. This is one of the most delightful princess books I've ever read. :-D
