A letter arrives for Camille at her sumptuous hotel in Manhattan. She is surprised anyone knows of her presence in New York, so opens it with wonder. The envelope is closed with a seal she recognises; a family of some note within New York society. She frowns, speculating on its contents.
The letter is a request to attend a gala at New York's famous Metropolitan Museum of Art on Fifth Avenue, Manhattan. Her help has been entreated to solve a matter of national importance, with the letter's writer asking Camille for her utmost discretion. Of course, being a Lady of the Realm, she is always discreet, and when she shares the news of the gala and the investigation with Cecily, her lady's maid, Cecily squeals with delight. There is nothing more exciting than helping Lady Camille with one of her investigations
At the gala, Camille is intrigued to be introduced to one of New York's famous sons, but he lets slip a nugget of information regarding a secret syndicate, known as The Consortium of the Alpha. Camille realises this is why she has been summoned to the gala, and why she, Cecily, Elsie, and Chief Inspector Owen, must infiltrate the upper echelons of New York society. Something is bubbling, and it's not just the champagne. Will Camille's knowledge of high-society assist her in her investigation, or will this be the enquiry which will put her in so much danger, she wonders if she will survive it?

Good story… could have been a 4-star rating EXCEPT I thought the language attributed to Cecile and Elsie, even though they were working class, was pretty bad and sometimes difficult to understand.

In this installment, Lady Camille Divine & Co. have traveled to New York City to take a holiday. Of course, murder and mayhem find them, and they are soon investigating a mystery.

This time around, they are dealing with people who have tremendous wealth and many secrets. The bad guys are equally wealthy and will stop at nothing to achieve their evil goals.

Lady Camille must operate on her own much of the time in this story. The bad guys have seen to it that her beau, Richard Owen, is mostly out of commission during this book. I liked seeing Camille press forward on her own, as it shows she is a strong woman, building her own life since estrangement from her husband. I missed Richard and his insights and interactions with Camille, though.

This book has many twists and turns and will keep you reading. Lady Camille must be sharp and fast on her feet, especially after encountering the Mafia.

Complete with Cecily, Elsie, Ottilie, and Rose, the gang has quite a time of it in NYC.

The only criticism I have - and I mean this in the kindest way possible - is that all of Andrea Hicks' books need a good proofread. Sometimes Cecily is called Emily, the Metropolitan Museum is sometimes called Metropol, etc. Also, the formatting makes it hard to determine who is speaking sometimes

This was a fun story with lots of romance and drama. I enjoyed the conversations between the main characters and the way they interacted with other characters. It seems I am not the only one attracted to women who are both beautiful and intelligent. I have never understood men who wanted a woman who cared only about her looks and comfort and nothing else. The plot is easily followed and the premise was actually laid out for them. Find out who killed the friend of the owner of the hotel they were staying in and who was behind the stealing of money from a charity. This is a very simplistic explanation of what truly went on, so if you want to know, read the book. I highly recommend this book and all the other books in this series.

Camille takes her daughter and her friends, along with Chief Inspector Richard Owen, to New York for the Christmas and New Year period. There they get involved in the shady dealing of the Alpha Consortium. This is supposed to be a charitable organisation, but someone is taking money from the coffers. Despite being warned to keep out of any investigation Richard and Camille decide that asking a few questions will not hurt. Then a trip to the theatre ends with Richard being shot and Camille is not the sort of woman to stand by when that happens.

Wow!! This was as great as the other Andrea hicks novels I've been reading. These are all total engrossed and not to be put down until the most exciting last page.

A kiss is just a kiss

This was a great story. Though it was dangerously exciting.

An easy read. However it has been poorly proof read. Lots of typos,
ie incorrect names and wrong words used.
More than once Cecily was referred to as Emily? And numerous incorrect words used throughout the book
