Tempest and Treason

They promised magic and fairy dust.  They lied.

Cameron Blaze has one panic-driven goal when she accidentally stumbles into a realm where fairy tales are a terrifying reality. Her objective? To track down a necromancer who is magically poisoning her friends and convince him to reverse his curse. At the point of a sword, if necessary. But Cam will have to fight her way through a dangerous new realm to find him first.

Cameron always thought that the realm of Fae was full of glittery fairy dust and wishes coming true, but it has a darker side. One filled with deadly monsters, rampant wild magic, and murderous intrigues. Cam’s quest to find the necromancer draws the wrong kind of attention. Dangerous creatures she didn’t even know existed are now very interested in an interloper with strange shadow magic.

All Cameron wants to do is save her friends and find a way back to New Orleans. Despite her best intentions to keep her head down, Cameron uncovers a plot that threatens to destroy the very essence of Fae. With the Fae realm so closely tied to Earth, she frantically questions what will happen to her home if the land of fairies descends into pandemonium? Will Cameron save the day? Or will both worlds be plunged into darkness forever?

Well, this was a fun filled, action packed adventure for Cameron and friends.
After accidently falling through the portal to the Fae realm while chasing the lich, the group had no relaxing time, it is non stop with things happening for the first part of the book.
The Fae realm is full of interesting, dangerous characters. The description of the land, characters, is so well written I could see it clearly.
There are some questions about Sloanes past that come up that I hope are answered in future books.
Andrei is still a puppy and I love him although his teenage puppy antics are frustrating at times.
And Cameron is finally getting back to her attraction to Marcus.
A great book, I’m sure the next one will continue on the same way

As stated before with previous books never a dull moment with Cam. This time Cam, Sloane, Magnus and Andrei are in a hot and deadly pursue of the escapee from the Abyss and ends up in the weird, deadly Fae Realms, a place of nightmares very aptly and vividly described in detail by the author. Fights for life, zombie creatures keep the interest piqued. A promise of romance is looming with a wolf in the future.

Tempest and Treason

I was clearly disappointed by the last entry in this otherwise excellent series. And I found the going rough in this edition of Cam’s story.

I shouldn’t have worried.

The beginning of this tale is a bit sluggish. The adventures in the new dimension and the beings and creatures found there lack compelling interest. Now those who enjoy world-building will find this much to their liking so it is a personal observation.

But once the set-up is complete and the thrust of the story begins this is a crackerjack story.

I was somewhat annoyed that there was so little for the secondary characters to do. They fill in gaps in the storyline but there is no real action for them to grab onto. It seems a shame to create such vibrant characters and then leave them standing around.

The writer successfully antes up the tension by creating peril for the secondary characters and this gives the central character a chance to shine. And with each new edition of the story, the central character’s abilities grow. This makes for a highly believable progression. The character isn’t dropped on the page fully developed, but has to struggle to learn and use each newly discovered talent.

My chief complaint with the last entry was the abrupt and clumsy cliffhanger. The writer brilliantly escapes this trap and allows the story to end without allowing the flow to end. There is plenty to urge the reader into the next book without a giant cliffhanger.

And an exceptionally clever send-off for a character, with interesting foreshadowing of crisis and adventures to come.

This is a read which requires dedication from the reader but if you hang in there the rewards well outweigh the effort. I’d say this is a front porch swing, tall, frosted Tom Collins afternoon pleasure. But if indoor reading is your thing then hot chocolate and fuzzy socks will work just fine.

Tempest and Treason

This book continues Cam’s journey into Fae to hunt down Kroxius and try to help her friend Letitia and the others from the Spring Court before it is too late. Gray does it again in this novel with her world building, imaginative monsters, creative creatures and the escapades Cam and her companions barely squeak through, while she artfully continues the story. As Cam fights through her anger and grief over Ben’s death, she slowly opens her eyes and heart to Magnus as they are forced to travel from one court to another in Fae. The intrigue of the Winter Court ensnares Cam and her friends as she finds herself roped into another misadventure after falling prey to the slippery promises of the Fae…never take their words at face value! The book grabs you from the start with danger lurking around every tree, the faithfulness and fighting skills of her traveling companions, the young Andrei, Magnus and her friend Sloane ,while managing many laughs along the way. So if you like intrigue, great characters, puzzles to solve (just who is the real bad guy or gal in this one, or are they working together?) and a little slow burn romance, this book’s for you. Best to read in order so it all makes sense. Happy reading!

Tempest and Treason oh yeah baby thumbs up it’s a winner!!This book picks up after Ben’s death and Cans tumble through a portal into Fae trying to catch Kroxius. They soon find Fae is not for the faint of heart and perils are at every turn. Can Cam and her friends stay alive, kill Kroxius find the lost souls and return in one piece??? Hmmm yeah it’s a lot and it was awesome. Can is coming into her own with her magic despite the fact she can’t find time to contact or begin training. She is doing it trial by fire for sure but she always comes out swinging a home run!

All this while riding the tide of grief over Ben’s death. And shockingly realizes yum of yum she digs Magnus! Shall I say swoon worthy awe never a bad thing to have a hot werwolf to sooth your troubles. Can Cam let him in and have the happiness she deserves. This is a great way to see how that goes. I have to say I’m loving the dynamics between those two such perfectly in sync chemistry and intuitive partnership as warriors. I really loved that. Hmmm did I mention I loved it hahaha.

Also the world building is stellar and I loved the court mystery intrigue and danger in every spoken word. Way to ramp up the pressure of accountability with speaking plainly without offense or accidental obligations.

And that ending wow can’t wait to get my hands on the next installment it’s a must read for sure!

WOW! Lucky! Me, I mean. I got to read an advanced copy of Tempest and Treason and it's a pleasure to review this book.
Speaking of luck, Cam and company will need plenty of good fortune and serious amounts of magic to survive, to attempt success and maybe even to escape the world they have literally fallen into. Waiting to greet them are testy, mercurial tempests with menacing treason in mind. Join adventure, intrigue, the unpredictable world of Fae shared with familiar character friends, Cam, Magnus, and Sloane. Plus captivating new characters ... meet the anti-Santa just in time for Christmas! A great read awaits you in Tempest and Treason, the newest Smoke and Shadows saga.

L.L. Gray is a master world builder and if that's your thing (it's mine) then you will fall into this one and hope it never ends. The plot doesn't fall victim to the world building, and the entire package is a fabulous read from beginning to end. There was plenty of action, adventure, danger, intrigue, and humor to keep me glued to the pages, and even a little romance. This one really does have it all.

This is the fourth book in the Smoke & Shadows series and it is as usual, a whirlwind of a ride with non-stop action. Throw in some political intrigue too, because our main characters are now in the world of Fae, and how could you NOT have intrigue and subterfuge when Fae are involved?

I enjoyed Cameron's latest adventure, which wraps things up nicely from the 3rd book and in this one, but leaves enough loose threads that need to be resolved. Can't wait for the next one!

I have really enjoyed reading all the books in this series so far. My only criticism is having to wait too long for the next instalment. Action, feisty heroine, a range of characters that actually are interesting thank you next please

I really like this series. This book has constant action and interesting characters. TBH I miss some of the New Orleans gang but hopefully will see again in the future.

The only problem is that I'd like LL Gray to write faster. Can't wait for next book.

A darker addition to my favourite urban fantasy series. Cam and her friends move from New Orleans to Fae for a new, more terrifying adventure. The world-building is incredible - every new land, strange creature, and different cultures come alive on the page to pull the reader in to the mystery of Fae.

It's not often I give 5 stars, but this book deserved them. The characters continue to learn and evolve as they journey through the land of Fae where it becomes even more difficult to tell who is an enemy and who is a friend.
