Three Acts of Penance #0.2

Talonfall: A Short Story of the Three Acts of Penance

Rate this book
It has been 106 years since the Demonic Dominion conquered Io. 106 years since they enslaved Humanity, banished the Elves into the mountains, and systematically exterminated the Majiski battle-mages. For the Genshwin — the underground network of Majiski survivors, a brotherhood of assassins, spies, mercenaries, and thieves — it is an age of fear, secrecy, and clandestine war against Io's conquerors. But for Jared, a Genshwin of the highest order, there seems to be no end in sight. No hope remaining. No recourse left...but to become one with the Demons.

From the author of the critically-acclaimed Dark Fantasy bestseller ATTRITION: THE FIRST ACT OF PENANCE comes the unspoken tale of the assassin who fell from grace, who would betray everything he knew, everyone he loved...and put Racath Thanjel on the path to becoming the Savior of Io.

S.G. Night has had stories growing in his head since birth. He began the final version of "Attrition" at the age of 14, and finished shortly before turning 18. He's a storyteller, a cynic, and a libertarian - he does things his own way. A sucker for puppies and English musicals about French people, Night enjoys the winter, writing before the break of day, and the company of fire.

What breaks inside an elite warrior of the highest caliber and sends him turning to the dark side, the enemy? Could the pressure of living in hiding, handling clandestine operations, and fighting a never ending battle to take back his world, finally broke the Genshwin, Jared? Were his leaders betraying his trust? Was he tired of the never-ending war between good and evil when evil is clearly winning? Will Jared turn his back on all he has stood for and join the Demons? In this prequel/companion novella to Attrition: The First Act of Penance by the brilliantly gifted author S. G. Night, Talonfall: A Short Story in the Three Acts of Penance Trilogy, comes a wonderfully dark introduction to the battles between good and evil on the world of Io.

S. G. Night has an imagination and way with words that wastes no time in sucking the reader in and engulfing them in the action and the mood of his work. Talonfall is a perfect addition to this series, looking from the perspective of one who has given up all hope and forsaken his people. If you read this before Attrition, fantastic, but if you don’t, and you pick it up later, you’ll get an even more intense look at the struggles faced by the characters in this trilogy. S. G. Night writes with rich detail that blends into the fast-paced action seamlessly.
Okay, I admit, the whole spider thing makes my skin crawl, but hey, these are Demons we are talking about! Great imagination, great writing, highly recommended for dark fantasy lovers! For those who want to give it a try, this is a perfect place to start!

I received a copy from S. G. Night in exchange for my honest review. he is an author to watch!

This short story is absolutely amazing! Night did a superb job capturing a different side of "Attrition"'s story line and characters while maintaining the same stylistic flare, riveting plot and unparalleled characterization we all know and love. "Talonfall" is an excellent prequel to "Attrition" and will leave you craving more! Don't miss out on this wonderful addition to a phenomenal up-and-coming trilogy by a truly gifted author

Well, it was definitely a new experience writing from the perspective of a Neutral-Evil main character. I also think I should consult a psychiatrist about my rather masochistic obsession with spiders...
