Summer 2036: Perry Rhodan and his companions respond to a distress call from the Vega system. There they are caught in the crossfire between two equally strong adversaries – the Topid Reptiloids and the Ferronians. After their spaceship is shot down by the Topids, the men run aground on the planet Ferrol. The survivors head to the capital Thorta, as only there can they wait for rescue. Meanwhile, the war continues. Despite the desperate situation, Perry Rhodan has a goal. He wants to stop the massacre at any cost. If he fails to do so, this terrible fate will also threaten Earth's inhabitants...
Well it couldn't take forever until the first story came into the series that mostly serves as the bridge from a thrilling cliffhanger to an epic setup for the next few books... so now the Wega-Arc has got its filler story. Stalking through the sumps and marches of the title giving world is just not truly fetching as a character building moment and Thurner once again goes a little bit overboard with his trademark scenes of horrific excesses of slaughter...
But then this book also features an interesting ride with Homer G Adams and a Fantan which both gives the Alien invaders and the human financial genius far more depth than either had ever at this time in the original setup. Surprisingly "Besun" is a fascinating concept, comprising more of the impression any given moment or happening does make than on the true materiel stuff the Fantan seemed to seek originally. And the impression this travel made to Adams is no less stunning.
And while the scout trip through the ferrolic wetlands does not really deliver many character moments, it starts a process that might ultimately fuse together this version of the well renowned mutant corps, and it brought some nice but not very important ideas about the Ferrols into play that once again show the differences between old and New Rhodan. So maybe it's less of a totally lost book than a direly needed breather before the real storm breaks out.
Quite nicely written, but overall only average quality story. You need to read it to follow the story line of course, but did not have many "I HAVE TO READ THIS" moments...
Except of the Obelisks without shadow of course, as any avid Perry Rhodan reader will know, this foreshadows interesting things to come :-)
Unfassbar!
