At times, I need a book that helps me mentally escape and dwell on the good things in life. K-Rho delivers the beauty of friendship and the power of sisterhood—beyond letters and calls. It’s a book that draws upon simple principles (e.g. friendship, love, commitment) to foster a distinctive story that reminds readers to serve as a positive light in the world. In this case, a positive light in relationships, whether romantic or platonic. The one thing I enjoyed most was Hankins’ commitment to balance and transformation. The three lead characters had to find balance among their competing identities and responsibilities; undergoing transformation as they achieved balance and evolved into the women they strived to be. Simple lessons and reminders for us all.

This book was a delightful trip into unknown territory for me. While there were well articulated universal themes of friendship, survival and personal growth, I was particularly taken with the peek behind the scenes into a world I've never seen up close. She approached the bonds of sisterhood --- sorority sisterhood ---- with a light touch, but did not shy away from the controversies that can boil up in any group. Well done, La Toya Hankins!

LaToya Hankins does not disappoint. Her latest novel is like "School Daze" meets "Waiting to Exhale." (If only Spike Lee were a feminist.) I'm not a soror myself, but I could certainly relate to the adventures of line sisters, Kiara, Gloria, and Donna, three unique college students seeking to join a sorority, their personal development, love interests, tragedies and triumphs. It's a good read.

It was ok

I expected something more, not sure what. Read it in half a day. Characters were ok, weird how all their names ended in A.

What I liked about the novel....

"The Sweet Taste of Sisterhood" was about sorority sisters and was a very interesting read that once you start the reader will find it hard to put down until the end. There was a lots going on this this Kappa Alpha Rho adventure starring Kiara, Gloria and Donna. It was a trip as these girls join a sorority, learning their love interest, personal developments, along with their bad times as well as their good times too. I liked how the author was able to bring out the loyalty to the sorority definitely showing the sisterhood of strong and unbreakable bonds becoming life long friends. I love the details and the experiences that this author shared with the reader. The hazing was quite interesting to read about along with the series of events that were there to test these ladies allegiance.

What I especially liked about the novel....

I found this novel very well written of these women portrayed lives, diversity, love and friendship. You will be able to feel the drama, relate to and even laugh throughout the read. In the end I enjoyed this read of a beautiful friendship and the power of sisterhood. Would I recommend? YES!

LaToya Hankins does the unthinkable and surpasses up her semi-autobiographical novel with K-Rho, a novel that chronicle’s the life of three women pledging to be members of the illustrious Kappa Alpha Rho. I found the characters to be well developed and realistic. The incidents described in this novel had me reminiscing of my undergrad years and the experiences I encountered. The fact that these girls, who met unsure of each other, became lifelong confidantes is admirable. LaToya Hankins undoubtedly demonstrates her gift of recounting the saliency of the college experience through her use of vivid details and relevant experiences most college students have encountered. When my line sister read the novel she had inquired if I had revealed some of our freshman tales to the author!

While my initiation process differed to the ones recounted by the protagonist Kiara, it was beneficial to me to really evaluate the definition of hazing. Is hazing limited to receiving “wood” or is it an unnecessary series of events one has to encounter to be considered a “Sister”. Either way the sorority aspect was what drew me in but the strength and character flaws of the three women was what kept me. I found myself wondering if K-Rho was what made these three women sisters or if they would have been close otherwise. The series of events that really tested their allegiance to one another made me conclude that K-Rho served as a temporary sealant until the friendship fostered to cement their relationship.

Being a member of a sorority, this book was a great story of a three friends/line sisters. Watching their friendship blossom in the book was refreshing to read. Even when they their disagreements, they were there for each other and accepted each other for who they each were. There were moments in the book where it seemed to move pretty slow. Overall it was a good read of friendship and sisterhood that stands the test of times.
