About the author

Charles Swindoll has devoted over four decades to two passions: an unwavering commitment to the practical communication and application of God's Word, and an untiring devotion to seeing lives transformed by God's grace. Chuck graduated magna cum laude from Dallas Theological Seminary and has since been honored with four doctorates. For his teaching on Insight for Living, he has received the Program of the Year award and the Hall of Fame award from the National Religious Broadcasters as well as multiple book awards.

I found this book very helpful in understanding the book of John, which at times be can be confusing. In this gospel the author often seems to skip across scenes rather than recording the event as it occurred and can go for a poetic rendering over a clear account. This can be frustrating since it often leads to a questioning of the veracity of his account. This book, along with NIV Study bible and the Disciples Study bible, really helped me reconcile John with the synoptic gospels and understand where his account fit in the overall picture of Jesus' life. I recommend it to any one interested in studying the book of John.

Mr. Swindoll does an excellent job of commentary on the book of John. I very much enjoyed his commentary, including historical context, inclusion of key Greek terms, an "Application" summary at the end of each section, etc. His Living Insights series are excellent companion books for anyone studying any of the books of the New Testament.

I really loved this commentary! This was such an easily accessible commentary that had a solid balance between exegesis and life application (definitely leaning towards application). I thought it was set up really well and did exactly what Swindoll set out to do! I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to begin incorporating commentaries into their study!

Good book for a group bible study

I study this book with a group of Christians. It helped me to understand the scripture and nightlight the point for me to think. Enjoyable reading.

I really like using the living insights series during my private time with God. The books give me extra insight and explanation about the origanall language and live and culture during the time that Jesus walked on this earth. Lets me understand more about the Lord my Savior

Charles Swindoll writes some of the best commentaries that I have ever read. They are easy to read and understand as well as rich in both historical and Christian knowledge. They make you love the Lord even more than before you started the book. I cannot recommend his Living Insights series enough. I have read both Revelation and John now; the bookends of the story of Jesus. This series will definitely supplement your knowledge in ways that will both challenge and engage you.

Charles Swindoll is a prolific writer and a great Bible scholar. I want to know as much about God's Word as possible so, in addition to my daily Bible readings, I am reading books by learned men so that I may understand it more and be able to put it to practical use. I found this book to be a very good explanation of the text, along with many homilies by the writer.
