This is the 24 mission people have been wanting to read about. The failed mission that kicked off all the problems in the first season! Operation Nightfall was a covert mission to assassinate Victor Drazen. It's the mission where Jack and David Palmer unknowingly crossed paths forever linking their stories together as the first season unfolded.

I don't know why, but I think I walked in having much higher expectations of this story than I got. The overall story was sort of fine and the art was okay, but the way this mission went south didn't feel as well written as the show itself. In fact, I think that was the problem, I think they tried to make it a bit too much like the show with all these double crosses and stuff like that going on. Which is sort of exciting, but for some reason I felt like it didn't work as well. Sometimes it worked really well in this story, just that it happened too often. I think Jack and his team went around killing more people than is realistic for trying to be covert and, while that's "exciting" it just felt weird.

In the end, it was not as amazing as I had expected. Some parts were really good, others were kinda bland. Maybe I just expected too much after seeing Season 1.

I read this a while back and honestly didn't remember it too much, so I thought I would revisit it, and I ended up finishing it in 2 sittings, which is warp speed for me reading anything lately.

There's plenty of action, political intrigue, and a few questions answered about the operation that was the backbone of the storyline for season one of my all time favorite television show. This comic, while not using the time gimmick very much, did feel a lot like the show with the intensity and action mixed with politics.

I was actually quite impressed with the art, as several characters are absolutely nailed, especially some of the cameos like Sherry Palmer and Richard Walsh, along with even bigger surprises like Christopher Henderson and Charles Logan. Jack Bauer and Stephen Saunders (my personal favorite villain of the entire show) are also spot on, and kick ass like they did in the show.

My only issues were with some of the names being too similar, as there were two characters named David in the book, which seemed unnecessary since there were only so many characters in it to begin with, and there were also two different Serbians named Tesla and Telsa... I mean, why? I also felt that some of the action at the end was a bit convoluted and confusing.

Overall, though, this is a great hidden chapter in 24 lore and a great effort for a comic. I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt it was a solid representation of the show.

After reading the previous 24 graphic novels and enjoying them I had high hopes for this one, especially considering I heard it was going to deal with the fabled mission that effectively kicked everything off. The pace was quite slow throughout and while it ticked all the boxes and tied up how all of the key players fit into it I felt it lacked imagination and wasn't as much of a page turner as I'd hoped, especially as it's a storyline I've wanted to see done for a few years now after it's continued reference in 24.

As a fan of 24 it's very nice to read what actually happened with the Drazen's and Stephen Saunders in Operation Nightfall. The writing is pretty basic though and uses all the 24 clichés in a mediocre way. I can recommend to read this before starting to watch the series to have more insight, just know that the series is a lot better.

Comic prequel to season 1 of 24. Art is so-so, with highly stilted figures, and the comic doesn't flow well.

A well drawn adaptation of the fabled Operation Nightfall. It's lovingly put together but there's something more interesting able the unknown and now I wish I hadn't read it.
