Out of the game, but not the closet.

CARTER:

Hockey was all I ever wanted, but a collision put my career as a star centre on ice. I’m back in my hometown, the one place I felt free: Sunrise Island.

Fox Harris is back, too. My best friend's little brother isn’t much wiser, but he’s all grown up. He’s my perfect opposite… a little too perfect.

Can I resist the one thing I shouldn’t touch?

I can’t stop breaking my own rules.

FELIX:

Carter was so out of my league that he doesn’t even play for my team... but that never stopped me pining. I can’t believe I’m falling into the arms of the one man I never dreamed would want me.

His only rule is that we stay quiet. And I’ve got a rule, too. I’ll take his warm lips and strong arms—but that’s it. I’m playing goalie for my broken heart, but he’s got his eye on the puck.

When Carter takes his shot, can we trust in love… or will everyone lose this riskiest game of all?

Collide is a steamy, standalone gay romance novel with a HEA ending and no cliffhanger.

Oh for goodness' sake, why did none of you remind me how much I don't like books without tension or conflict?

Carter & Felix meet up after ten years. "It's you," Carter stammers, and by the bottom of the page, the formerly straight hockey player feels like his "world has narrowed to a single point" and he's now a one-Felix-man.

(Look, Ma, no tension, no conflict.)

Felix is delighted by this, and under Carter's careful...uh.... ministrations he regains the self-respect he'd lost with a nasty ex, Garth.

So when he unexpectedly meets Garth again, lots of tension? Lots of conflict? Well...

Here's Garth's zinging opening salvo:
“Well,” is all Garth says...“Nice shirt."
And Felix's assertive reply?
“Hello.”
Then he turns round, leaves and the two never speak again.

(Look, Ma....)

Oh, fine—this is fine, if you like fine.

Okay, there's instalove, and then there's this book that I can only describe as instalove on steroids. First, there's the instaneous sexual awakening. Actually, Carter never officially has a sexuality. He has a few internal moments of being confused about being attracted to Felix when he'd never been attracted to anyone before, and then he just dives into his feelings. Okay, that's a valid if confusing response. And I'm reeling from the shock of how short this story was.

Carter is a hockey player that was injured during the game and out for the foreseeable future. Felix is his best friend’s little brother. They both are moving back home to a small remote island. Felix just left a 5 year relationship with a controlling asshole. Felix has always had a huge crush on Carter. Carter is straight.

Felix literally runs into Carter within hours of being back on the island. As soon as Carter sees Felix, he is head over heels. Minutes later they are sharing a shower with some frotting action. Then directly after talking about how they will move forward with their relationship.

Excuse me?!? Pump the brakes speed racer. You have been straight your whole life and never thought about another man sexually but in less than a few hours, you want a whole relationship? It’s just too unrealistic.

I wanted to like this a lot more than I actually did. :/ I'd give it 2.5 stars rounded up because Davies hinted at some cool stuff, and I'm hoping that maybe some of his other words are stronger.

The main issue with this one is that so much of the story and characterization was hinted at but not actually shown. Carter and Felix were interesting people, though again, they were so sketchily portrayed that I always wanted more. I felt like Davies really missed some great opportunities for tension, as well ().

All in all, this had some great promise but didn't really deliver.

I found this book okay, so I've given it a middle of the road 3* rating.

The good:
I liked both characters Carter and Felix
I liked their friend group, the other guys from the island and Carter's hockey teammates.
The book was well written

The not so good:
It was super insta-love with a predictable third act breakup due to their lack of communication.
Carter had an instantaneous sexual awakening, one moment he seems to have no interest in anyone sexually and the next he's kissing Felix like his life depended on it
There were a few errors in the book, such as rogue speech marks.
Felix and Garth never really got resolved - when they met again Felix just whimpered and ran away which was so disappointing!

I was so excited to see a new book by E. Davies. I didn’t hesitate to one click it. I’m so glad I did.
Felix/Fox, my heart was breaking 💔 for him. What a stupid stunt his ex did to him. He definitely didn’t deserve Felix one bit.
And Carter, yeah same 💔 for him getting injured and not knowing if he was going to heal properly to return to his game.
Then the “Collision” happened!
It was the most epic collision of 2 lives and 2 hearts.
So come and read their story, you won’t be disappointed.
All I’m going to tell you is there is an HEA and that this book is delicious!!
I can’t wait to see more of those secondary characters!!

A cute and hopeful feel type story.

I hated what Felix went through, how his ex treated him. I was so glad to see him stand on his own two feet. Yes he returned to his parents home, however, he wasnt planning on moping. He was planning on creating a life where he came first.
As for Carter, yes he too, returned to an area he was comfortable, but he was licking his wounds, typical of anyone after a possible career ending injury. Little did he know that his true life was about to begin in a way even he didnt see coming.

While the stories main focus is on Felix and Carter, I have to admit I liked the few scenes with the side characters of this book.

Ed is back, back again! (Yes I am totally singing this) and what a lovely return this is!
A brand new island, that warm and cosy small town feeling and the onslaught of emotions that hit Carter and Felix so fast and hard they are left reeling for a moment, like when a wave hits you when you’re not expecting it and you sway a bit before regaining your balance!
Collide is a best friend’s brother, bi-awakening ( or gay awakening, or, really just awakening for Carter) story with a warm and fluffy feel to it. It’s the introduction to Sunrise Island and the group of friends so tight they’re called the “Brothers“ and I can’t wait to read more!

Ed Davies is back! This is the first new book in a while and a I couldn’t buy it or read it fast enough! I thoroughly enjoyed this great start to a new series by one of my favorite low angst mm HEA creators. 🥰 Felix is fresh out of a horrid and emotionally abusive relationship and finding his courage and personality again. Moving back home is his fresh start. Carter is also moving home but he is struggling to adapt to his new normal after a devastating injury playing hockey. Their connection was on fire and now they have to figure out how to make it work…or not. These characters were so good and I am so glad this author is back!

What a joy it is to have a new release from this talented author. E. Davies has once again delivered a wonderful low angst, feel good read that left me with a happy heart and a smile on my face.

Felix and Carter are very likeable characters that have known each other since childhood. Circumstances have them both returning to Sunrise Island and their first meeting upon arrival had me laughing out loud. Felix has always crushed on Carter and the chemistry between them after is undeniable so the steam rises quickly and frequently!

I adored the quirky nature of the inhabitants of Sunrise Island, the found family togetherness when all the childhood friends are reunited, the witty banter and the islanders transportation - golf carts!
I found this to be a really enjoyable and engaging sweet romance that left me eager for the next in the series.

It's so great to see another book by E. Davies!!! I really enjoyed this story. Carter was the friend of Felix's brother, and it was great to see them connect after a few years of seeing each other. There was very little angst, and the MC's worked out their challenges relatively quickly and pain free. It was a feel good story all around, and I loved the characters. I'm looking forward to more of the brothers.

Carter was Felix's brother's best friend. Felix had always had a crush on Carter. When Felix comes back home to Sunrise Island after a bad break-up, who does he run into, literally, Carter. This chance meeting leads to something bigger. This was a well written love story. Welcome back Ed Davies, I missed you.

Felix and Carter are both great guys.
They're both back home trying to heal when they literally collide.
The chemistry was instantaneous between them both.
Felix has always had a crush on Carter and Carter is starting to reciprocate those feelings.
The island seems like a great place.
There's plenty of found family filled with quirky residents and lots of laughter and love.

I loved Collide by E. Davies. It's the first book in the Sunshine Island Brothers series. I loved Carter and Felix, how cute they are together, their chemistry, and all of the naughty things Carter says to Felix. I also loved that it is a brother's best friend trope, which is one of my favorites to read.

I read this book using the Kindle Unlimited app.

This was a new to me author, and I enjoyed it. It was a sweet brothers best friend romance, with a little bit of angst but everything got sorted quickly. The writing was okay, the pacing of the book was a bit strange at times, but overall an enjoyable quick read.

It has been some time since I have had the pleasure of reading a book by E Davies.

It was amusing to follow younger Felix educating novice Carter in the ways of MM relationships. Both men are very likeable and an HEA is achieved!

Collide is a good start to a new series.

DNF, stopping at 41% because while this is not terrible, it's also not very interesting. Also, the endless sentences about the same set of feelings. This is first person written too much like third person, where the conflicts are very familiar internal things. It's not a good combination.

It was a good story with low drama, which I really enjoyed. I did feel like there could be a bit more external conflict and that Fox could have been more assertive, especially during what felt like the climax of the novel. I appreciate the lack of miscommunication in the third act breakup, though I often felt like their issues would be solved by just talking a bit more. Hoping to see more from the supporting characters in follow up books.
