Smitten

Lust and Found

Rate this book
Full of love, romance and a whole heap of flirty fun, Smitten is a sexy new series. It will make you weak at the knees.
Cambodia is the last place in the world Sienna wants to visit. She likes fivestar hotels and exercising her credit card in air-conditioned malls – not flearidden hostels and trekking through the jungle. But when her brother Eddie starts sending strange messages from Cambodia, Sienna’s mum convinces her to go check on him. Thankfully, her boyfriend agrees to go along. When they arrive, they discover that Eddie has disappeared. Sienna just wants to find him and get the hell out of there. Everything in Cambodia is getting to her – the language barrier, the unrelenting humidity, the mosquitos. But mostly it’s Eddie’s maddeningly hot French friend, Guillaume, who couldn’t be more unhelpful if he tried…

What it's about: Sienna is off to Cambodia to find her brother Eddie - but not by her choice. Her mum believes something is happening with Eddie and so on her way to Singapore with her boyfriend Daniel, she stops off, determined to find her brother and be on her way. Instead she meets Guillaume, a hot seductive French friend of Eddie's, who knows more than he's letting on.

What I thought: This book was started off slowly for me. It took me a long time to get past the fact that Sienna is such a "princess" and can't do anything for herself. Anything. While it turns out that this was deliberately part of the plot so this can change through-out the story, it really just bugged me for the first half of the book. Plus she is a gold-digger. Seriously, who dates a someone ten years older than you just for his car and his apartment views? Sienna does. Also, that someone (Daniel, her boyfriend) turns out to be a professional poker player? HRMM. But despite those facts that made me sigh (with a bit lot of eye-rolling) I ended up loving this book. Even though it really does take Sienna a while, she really does learn how to be a better person. Now Guillaume was not the most swoony guy, but he did have his moments. (I mean, magic mushrooms?!)
Together, they search Cambodia for Eddie, and learn about each other and themselves along the way. Such a feel-good novel.

This book was a well-paced novel and I recommend it for teens on the more mature end of the scale.

The Good: To be honest, I thought the end was wonderful - when they found Eddie. So simple, yet so effective!

The Bad: Well, everything I complained about above!

Okay firstly this books was okay once again unrealistic but that's what I expect from these books.
However, what made it so unenjoyable to read was the fact that the main character Sienna was completely unlikable. I mean I get the book was supposed to be this whole spiritual journey for her an yeah she changed but she was just so obviously daft at times that it was mind numbingly frustrating.
And can we talk about the whole Daniel and Guillaume (however you pronounce that it bugged me the whole time). Obviously Sienna and Guillaume were going to end up together it's implied in the title and the blurb but of course there had to be a complication. The complication; Daniel a creepy 30 year old who was 'protecting' (more like compressing) 20 year old Sienna from the world. He went to Cambodia with her to 'help' find her brother and then got annoyed because he couldn't online gamble and left her to go to Singapore then pretty much broke up with her but no Sienna was unfaithful it was all her fault. Like honestly it was a crappy relationship that was never going to last.
And Guillaume. Despite the annoying name he was good. All of Fison's male love interest in these books seem to have some secret they're keeping from the girl and it can be annoying and predictable but Guillaumes weren't that annoying and he did actually seem to care for Sienna unlike her boyfriend and helped her change a bit which was good.
All in all this is getting a bit long so the book was okay and a quick easy albeit annoying read.

Yet another "Smitten" novel I really loved! Firstly, I have to admit I was a total sucker for the front cover. The really exotic theme, got me and I knew I had to pick this book up! Julie Fison is a ridiculously talented writer!!

I really like how this was set in Cambodia, it really set the tone for something to go wrong. The many wrong turns Sienna and Daniel could make, then finding themselves in a new place. Fison really has a thing for the males in her story being filthy rich. "Tall, Dark and Distant" had Nik who owned sports cars, penthouses and even a private helicopter. I do and don't like this, because by making them rich, it is easy to go wrong with them. The competition doesn't seem fair and it seems to make them more of a lousy boyfriend.

Guillaume was a really interesting character, I like that he was slightly mysterious and wasn't prepared to give everything to Sienna right away. I like how he had his judgments about her and kept his distance for a little while.

I also really didn't expect that coming from Eddie, from his previous descriptions, I didn't think he would turn into and monk!! But I am glad that he was safe, and that Guillaume and Sienna ended up finding him, because if they didn't I would've have been really annoyed and seen no point in this novel - especially with the title "Lust and Found".

Overall a really "good read" (hahaha) and something I really enjoyed from Julie Fison again!

'Lust and Found' takes you on an exotic adventure through the heart of Cambodia. It combines a beautiful background, a curious quest and two main characters who continue to surprise. The characters are confronted with the real problems of travel and the novel explores how they learn to adapt to an unfamiliar world. It perfectly illustrates the idea that getting lost in your travels is not always a bad thing, leaving you wanting to explore the luscious environment of Cambodia for yourself. You will want to finish this book in one sitting as it draws you inexorably onward.

I love that the book takes place in Cambodia and that our main character Sianna changed from an unlikeable character to a very likeable character that you'll be rooting for.

The book is full of mystery, exotic adventure, fun and flirty moments and never dull moment story line.

Sienna is an normal Australian girl who gets spoilt by her ten year older rich boyfriend, but when her brother Eddie starts sending weird messages, to go check in on him. Sienna's boyfriend agrees to come with her. But, what's the point when he is no help at all, unlike normal?

Sienna's on a quest to find her brother which she is having trouble with find.. But mostly it's Eddies extremely hot French friend Guillaume, who has a secret which is keeping Sienna from finding her missing brother...

I really loved this book. I read it one sitting. So much going on in this book. A great love story, a mysterious subplot, and you can literally feel the humidity of Cambodia.
This is one of fave books I have read this year. So, so good.

The Smitten series is a collection of teenage romances, this one set in one of my favourite places, Cambodia. Sienna’s superficiality is stripped away in the ruins of Siam Reap and through her brothers conversion to Buddhism.
