Marshal Bill Harvey puts his life at risk every day to protect the people of Redemption, Kansas. But there’s only one resident whose well-being comes before all else, and if you touch her, you’re as good as dead in his books...

Bill Harvey thought he had his hands full with the hotheaded Jesse Overstreet, a Texan like himself, who’d stumbled into town. But Overstreet is the least of his problems when Caleb Tatum and his gang sweep through town, cleaning folks out of every last penny. As a bonus, they make off with a beautiful hostage, Eden Harvey, Bill’s wife...

While Bill and his posse ride hard through Kansas to save Eden and the old buzzard Mordecai is left alone to police the town, a broken marriage turns violent and a suspicious gypsy spooks the townspeople. Mordecai desperately needs Bill to return. And he might just get his wish when the posse finds unexpected help from that fiery Texan, Overstreet. Bill will surely get back his beloved, at any cost...

This was my favorite of the Redemption series (Trilogy so far). In the first book, Bill Harvey, a Texan cowboy, ends up being nursed back to health by the beautiful Eden Monroe in the town of Redemption, Kansas after getting gored by a steer on a trail drive. He ends up marrying Eden and staying on as the town marshal after saving the town from a corrupt lawman. In the second novel, Bill again is called on the save the town from bank robbers and renegade indians and now in this his third novel about Redemption, Bill's wife Eden is taken as a hostage by a gang of bank robbers and he and a posse track the outlaws into the badlands of Kansas for an exciting showdown while his deputy Moredecai has to deal with troubles in Redemption between tough rancher family and and some hired gunmen over an unfaithful wife. This is a great read. James Reasoner is a great storyteller. His books capture my interest from the first paragraph and holds it until the end. Nothing high brow here and I never have to reread a paragraph to see if I've missed anything. Just pure entertainment and a great quick read! I've read several of Mr Reasoner's books now....mysteries, westerns, and non fiction as well and have loved them all. I highly recommend anything he writes and suggest reading his blog on Goodreads as well.

Marshal Bill Harvey has to get up a posse to pursue the gang that took all the bank's money-and his wife, Eden! The young Texan is bound and determined to get both back, wife first, then the money. Along with the posse is another Texan Bill had had to arrest for a disturbance. But Jesse Overstreet held no grudges and, being a Texan, he had to back another Texan's play. Even if he was a Marshal in a Kansas town these days.

Bill's deputy, old Mordecai Flint, though wounded in the bank robbery, is bound and determined to hold the town together as trouble erupts while the posse is on the trail of the outlaw gang.

Another fine western from James Reasoner, one of the best writers working today.
