Kelly and Becky Griffin can’t seem to keep their hands off each other—which would be fine if they weren’t divorced. Every few months, looking for “closure”, they fall into bed together. To keep his mind off of Becky and his foundering acting career, Kelly heads to Turtle Island, Georgia, to be a contestant in the Yummy Santa contest. But when Becky shows up, winning the title is suddenly the last the thing on his mind. Becky has arrived with more than hot ex-sex on the agenda. She’s got a big secret to get off her chest, if she can only get Kelly to listen. Will these two finally get the closure they need, or will their reunion spark a second chance at first love? All bets are off in this fun, sexy romance with Kim Law’s signature Southern charm.

Two Turtle Island Doves by Kim Law Turtle Island series #2.5. Contemporary romance novella. Second chance troupe. Can be read as a stand-alone. Kelly and Becky Griffin were married at one time but the choice of children or not was cause for the divorce. They are still in love and occasionally get together but they don’t talk in any depth. This Christmas, Becky joins Kelly in Turtle Island where he’s a contestant in a sexy Santa contest. She wants to try one more time at forever.
I didn’t like Kelly from first impressions. He made several comments to himself that were rude and while they may have been true, you just don’t say those things out loud. The narrative goes on to give him more depth and to try to make him “lovable” but for me it was too little, too late. I’m not sure why Becky wanted him back other than physical attraction and maybe a little star stuck. Spending time together for the contest, reminds them both of when they first fell in love and they finally talk about what broke them up and what they want for the future.
🎧 I listened to this book as an audiobook. The narrator is Ryan Haugen who has a slight occasional lisp. It didn’t bother me and was only a couple times noticed. Perhaps listening was why I didn’t like Kelly. I heard his comments, that he said under his breath, and just thought “how rude”, even if he spoke with knowledge and past experience.
I’ve read and loved other books by this author and intend to read the next book in this series. I will just write this one off as novella filler. This does have a happy ending.
This is a sweet second chance romance.Becky and Kelly are divorced but can’t seem to cut off contact completely. You can tell they still care about each other but want different things in life. It’s a quick read with a HEA.
The brevity of this story (85 pages) does not allow for character development. Instead we get a tunnel vision snapshot of Kelly and Becky in a small space of time. Mostly it is not believable, considering that they both used contraception but Becky still got pregnant, twice, and with twins the second time! Really, just unrealistic.
I did like the author's writing style and there were no proofreading typos (which is extraordinary, though it shouldn't be). The cover has a woman with hair down to the middle of her back; however, Becky has a bob haircut, so I don't know who the woman on the cover is supposed to be. The author should care as much about the cover as the content, but appropriate covers seem to have gone by the wayside in this age of technology.
Definitely a second, third, or maybe even a fourth chance romance. I loved that Kelly an Becky couldn't seem to do without the other. This was a fun read. It was quick, cute and romantic. This book will bring a smile to your face.
This is a novella and I feel this jumped into the middle of a started story.
Kelly is competing in a sexy Santa competition where he finds his partner for the day is his ex-wife. Who is only there to tell him she’s pregnant from their last tryst. But she turns down his proposal that night and leaves him.
But this isn’t enough for Kelly and they get their happy ending in the end.
So, I got this book last year and didn’t remember the premise before re-reading the description today. And I thought I was reading a FF book. This was the first time I have seen Kelly as a male name.
A good read for people who are in to the series recommend highly can't wait for the next one of the series a really enjoyable read but quick shaping up to be a enjoyable series must read the next one of the series
This is an incredibly sweet story of high school sweethearts that have lost their way. Kelly and Becky met in high school and had been together for a while before they got married – Becky wanted to be done with nursing school first. They had plans. Kelly wanted to be an actor and they were going to move to LA once they were financially able to do so or if Kelly got a job. Things went sideways and they end up divorcing but are clearly still in love with each other. This is a lovely story of growing up and finding your first love is also your last love.
Listening to the audiobook of the book was fun. Kelly and Becky are now divorced, but every time they meet, they can't keep their hands off each other. They both know it's not a healthy relationship. They broke up because she wanted a family and he didn't. One of those meet ups, will change their lives again.
Becky and Kelly have a great story. They divorced but still couldn’t stay apart. Jelly needed to grow up and then convince Becky he was ready to he be the man she needed.
Wonderful book! Loved the story and as always the writing and editing done by Kim and her crew are amazing. Heartfelt, full of soft touches and kindness and love!
The blurb for this book really tells it all about Kelly and Becky. This was cute, quick read with a funny/sweat hea. The motto of this book should be 'Sometimes what you think you want isn't really what you need'.
This was a sweet Christmas beach themed Second chance romance. It starts off in what feels like the middle of a scene, so I was slightly confused at first. I also thought Becky was coming off EXTREMELY stalkerish, so I was concerned for Kelly, but after I got the full picture I was rooting for those two!
We first met Kelly Griffin in Hot Buttered Yum, where he was a contestant in the Mr. Yummy Santa contest. However, you don't have to read Hot Buttered Yum to get into this novella.
Kelly and Becky were high school sweethearts who married young and had all of their hopes and dreams before them. These two were so connected that they each wanted the same things. Then one day, something happened and they realized they didn’t want the same things after all. After trying to make their marriage work, they ended up getting divorced. Only someone forgot to tell them that once you get divorced, you also stop sleeping with each other.
Becky travels from Texas to Georgia to see Kelly and get things off her chest. What she doesn’t expect is to find that the Kelly she was married to isn’t the same Kelly she encounters on this visit. For Kelly, the old saying of actions speak louder than words definitely holds true.
Becky and Kelly Griffin are two people that you will love from the beginning. Watching these two realize that the love they have for each other is greater than either ever knew is truly amazing. This Christmas, these two are going to find out that absence makes the heart grow fonder and when you lose something precious sometimes you get it back and then some.
Such a great short story. It is kind of a book within a book because it goes with Hot Buttered Yum, another Turtle Island book. I would highly recommend the whole Turtle Island series. It is a fictional place I would love to live at in real life. This novella features a couple who keeps finding themselves drawn back to each other even though they are no longer together. Kim Law manages to convey such love and emotion on both sides. The ending had me crying happy tears.
I got to beta read this title for Kim, and I've been waiting for its release so I can share my love of this story with others.
"Two Turtle Island Doves" is a fantastic short story. It kept me engaged and rooting for Kelly and Becky the whole way through. My reading preferences run more towards paranormal, fantasy, and sci-fi, but this short, sweet tale pulled me in and left me with a happy sigh. It's the perfect Christmas story, and one fans of romance will love!
This is a second chance at love. Kelly and Becky were once married. They divorced when they ended up wanting two different things in life. Him the fame, her the family. Both even after the parting would meet up every three months. But this time he didn't want to. She came to him with a secret. Will he take her back? Will the holiday spirit mend those broken hearts? I have read other stories by Kim Law. This did not disappoint.
Short story. Cute holiday read. Kelly's character was introduced in Hot Buttered Yum. While this was too short to have much character development, it's a good read. At first I wasn't sure I was going to like Kelly, but once I realized Becky was just as much at fault with what happened to them, then I was fine. I enjoy Kim Law's books and look forward to reading more!
A fantastic holiday novella that's a spin-off of Hot Buttered Yum. They may be divorced but Kelly and Becky can't seem to stay away from each other. Hopefully the Turtle Island magic can work for them. This holiday novella is one you don't want to miss.
I'm normally not a fan of short stories, but I totally LOVED this one by the fabulous Kim Law!!! I recently read Hot Buttered Yum, and I was very curious about Kelly and his 'ex.' So glad that we got to revisit the contest and find out all about him!!
