Follow a bustling family through their busy day! Each scene is teeming with people, places and things, and you’ll meet people of all races, cultures, lifestyles and abilities as you go. This colorful book immerses children in detailed scenes of daily life, which are followed by simple spreads of labeled illustrations to help with vocabulary building and word recognition. The bright, busy spreads invite readers to find new ways to interact with the book every time they read. A must-have for every family library!
This vocabulary-filled book encourages readers to read and ask questions as well as to acquire words that fit various situations. For instance, when Maya and Sam head to the market with their Pop Pop, the two pages showing their destination are filled with images and words indicating what someone might find in a market such as various flowers including tulips, sunflowers, daisies, and lavender. In some respects, this book mimics the classrooms and homes in which objects are labeled to encourage youngsters to learn vocabulary. Although there's a lot of stuff to look at here, read in small doses, the book is quite informative. I also like how the story moves from getting up in the morning and deciding what to wear to final preparations for bed. In case someone didn't realize it, the world is filled with all kinds of wonderful words.
A great book to share with kids, especially those learning to read or who love very detailed illustrations with lots to look at. Bonus points for characters that break gender stereotypes, for diversity, and for an illustration of a busy park scene that has a breastfeeding Mom.
