First you have to know that there is a crime syndicate that infected their city called the Tempest and lead by Carl Jameson. Kara’s dad co-founded a resistance group called the Vigilante Group and when Adam was recruited, it became the public entity of the Civilian Security Agency (CSA).
Kara’s dad was murdered, and she wants revenge. Adam made a promise to her dad that he’d protect her and make sure she didn’t have a part in the CSA. So, when Kara asked Adam to train/recruit her, he said no, and she had to take matters into her own hands. She finds a boxing gym that is owned by Rick and asks him to train her. He agrees because he can sense she possesses this instinct, this same instinct that Rick has that makes him incredibly dangerous in a fight. He can sense where people are. That whole thing is extremely hard to picture for me. Anyway. Rick and Kara have a sexual relationship and it borderlines pain and pleasure. But after Rick loses control and accidentally kills an innocent, she doesn’t want to be with him anymore. He’s extremely obsessed with her and refuses to take no for an answer. All the while, Adam tries to keep Kara away from Rick and trying to keep the government from taking over the CSA.
I don’t think love triangles are my thing. I need a definitive who the fmc is going to be. She was with Rick for the entire book but there are bits of her sharing a few moments with Adam, but on a deeper level. He is her tie to her dad and shares memories of him with her and he tells her about what happened to his wife. Fingers crossed she’s with Adam because I hated Rick. He’s very manipulative and gaslights Kara for the entire book. I understand he’s supposed to be an anti-hero, which I don’t normally have a problem with but for some reason it came off very off putting.
There’s amazing buildup of the plot and I liked the spice, even though it’s with Rick. There’s great character development, especially for both Adam and Kara. I would have liked to have seen more chemistry building for Adam and Kara, but the author was extremely focused on Rick and Kara. Even though he’s more reserved after having lost his wife and doesn’t want to care about Kara, even though he does. He’s protective of her and every once in a while, he’ll reveal just a little bit about his past to her. I think it's safe to say I love Adam 😍

I enjoyed this title! This is perfect for lovers of Suspense, thriller, romance, and spicy scenes. I’m a sucker for books like these!
This romance will have you rooting for both love interests. We encounter somewhat of a love triangle, although it’s not one of my top tropes I have to say I love how the author planned this one out.
Kara has just lost her father and is being hunted by the people that brought the demise on her dad. Because of this she’s being protected by Adam, a good friend of her dad’s which in turn starts to feel a certain type of way for Kara and I’m here for it! But wait there’s more… in comes the sexy Rick, he’s mysterious and had me wondering throughout the whole book, is this guy good or bad.. yup there’s the morally grey.
Overall I enjoyed the story, this was a fast paced story with spice and loads of action. I’m looking forward to the next book after the author leaves us with a cliffhanger! I must continue this series.

In Crucible, the setting is the city of Roburn. A decade ago, Roburn was besieged by a crime organization called Tempest. A legal vigilante organization called the Civilian Security Agency is charged with keeping the streets safe. Led by ex-military, Adam Reid, it is an everyday battle. When Adam's supervisor is murdered by Tempest, it brings the man's daughter back to Roburn. Adam does his best to keep Kara Benson safe. She possesses a skill that's almost paranormal but also new to her. But there is already a member of the CSA with the same animalistic trait. Rick Walters is intense at the best of times and dangerously vicious during the worst. The drama really begins when Rick and Kara meet. Get strapped in as all hell begins to cut loose.
The beginning of this trilogy was truly unique from anything I've read before. The first chapter was action-packed and pulled me in quickly. As the plot progressed, I really struggled to not DNF. I loved Adam with his quiet and confident demeanor, and even though Kara was almost too innocent at times, I liked her potential. Unfortunately, I utterly despised Rick and the way he was with Kara. Normally, we dark readers jump on board quickly when an anti-hero is mentioned, but he has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. I hope and pray the twisted love triangle loses him. The last 15% of this story was the most exciting and had me quickly increasing my overall rating. There are no elements of "love" in this installment, but the spice was some of the hottest I've ever read. By the time I reached the cliffhanger ending, I was very happy that I refused to quit reading. I loved the author's creativity as she weaved a complex plot with well-developed, distinctive characters. I am really excited to read the rest of this trilogy. The good news? Ms. Storm decided to release Purgatory and Ashes early, so no waiting. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

CRUCIBLE by Franca Storm is an incredible and captivating read that will leave you on the edge of your seat! From the very beginning, the plot drew me in and kept me hooked until the very end. The characters, Kara, Adam, and Rick, are all complex and well-developed, with each having their own unique layers and motivations.

First of all, this is not romance.
Not an anti hero with redeeming quality who got the girl at the end, either.
Be prepare for something different.
First chapter was good. Action pack, fast pace, although i couldn't get a grip right away on the Tempest, the Syndicte in Roburn city and the Civillian Security Agency / CSA as the opponent. I seriously tought this book wasn't the first book. There must be a previous book that tells you clearly about these two entity.
Here, we meet Adam the CSA Commander. All calm and collected. Very well in control. Cool as cucumber. Until he's in a mission. Until his dark side come to play. And it was sight that got me trembling. The scene was that good!
Then when we meet Kara with her reckless wish for revenge, we see someone with lethal ability but naive way of seeing things.
The pace go slow for Kara and Adam cause, yes i was thinking romance at start but nope, got to say you have to leave that romance hope bye bye now.
The little spark was there between Adam and Kara, but because of his calmness bring the wall so high while Kara is in her crossroad of life.
Things got exciting when Rick show up. The all in action, agresif, obsessed, with animal instinct and mind blowing bloody rough segs, Rick darkness enticed Kara to play.
Until he let his animal side out of control. Until his obsession become deathly. Until his manipulation become too dark.
The journey toward the ending, i love.
The author have done a great job of building that plot. Characters have their own strenght. Even with Rick, i can't really put him in the strong villain box cause he have solid background. Not making him the angel, but enough to see if he can redeem him self in the next book.
Kara still need to get her head straight. Be smarter and stronger with her judgement.
Need more of chemistry to build toward romance, if thats the end game here.
Adam is... I thought at first he would be the absolute thing for Kara, byt he have so many to do in chemistry building, and not just be the hero to Kara who obviously on her way to be strong character.
Last, three POV in this book- from Adam, Kara and Rick makes me wonder for the second book relationship... Aaand on to second book! Cause yes, cliffy!

This is the first book in a new series by Franca. It was an interesting read. The book begins with Kara’s father, Jim being killed. She comes home for his funeral even though its dangerous. Kara has been kept in the dark about a lot of things. This isn’t going to help anyone though. Her father thought it was best but now he is gone and Adam is having to deal with the fall out. Adam is in charge of the agency Jim started. Adam notices something about Kara and begins to wonder if that thing is why Jim kept Kara away. Then there is Rick. He is unpredictable and dangerous. He has the same trait that Adam is noticing in Kara. When to two ultimately met it is going to be bad. Rick becomes obsessed and all the secrets kept from Kara just make it easier for him to manipulate her. There is so much at play in this book. Adam and Rick work for the Agency Jim started known as the CSA. Their objective is to help drive out a group called Tempest that has overtaken the town or at least that is what they were started to do. Now they do that and other things. Adam feels connected to Kara in a way he hasn’t since his wife was killed. Rick is obsessed with Kara. Kara is torn. She feels something for Adam but is intrigued by Rick at first at least. Kara goes through quite the transformation in this book. The book does end on a cliffhanger. I am torn if I will read the next book or not. I really didn’t like the Rick character. He was manipulative and obsessed. His trait makes him extra dangerous. He isn’t willing to accept what Kara is saying. Adam is opening up some and allowing others to get close to him. Kara is learning to balance her trait and not be dangerous like Rick. Great job Franca.

This book was so good and action packed! From the moment I read the prequel “Kingmaker” I knew I needed more Adam Reid. In this book one of the series, we got to see how Adam became the ultimate leader of the CSA. He’s determined to make the city safe again while keeping his feelings locked down tight. But there’s just something about Kara that builds a connection he wasn’t ready to face just yet. And to make things more interesting, we’ve got Rick added into the mix to give us the other side of our twisted love triangle. I’m not going to spoil it for you, but let me just say to prepare for things to get intense. I can’t wait to read the next book and find out what happens. I also want to go back and make my way through all the other books in this connected world now. The little clues dropped here and there throughout the story makes it impossible to resist reading all them.

There was a lot going on in this story and I loved it! There was danger, action, secrets, some spice, and of course - the cliffhanger! I’m not bothered by a cliffhanger, it just makes me want the next book, and here? I definitely need to know what comes next.
Kara was lead to believe certain things about herself and those around her, and after her father dies she discovers the truth. Now, the secrets are out, and her life is in danger.
Book 2 is sure to a crazy, action-packed ride and I can’t wait!

This is my first book by the author and I was blown away by the world building and her writing style.
I really liked this story! It was so different than anything I've read before and I am hooked! The action and drama was so well done it felt like a show playimg out.
I found myself going back and forth between liking Adam and Rick and I loved the development of the relationship with both MMCs with Kara.
I don't want to wait for the next book! I need to know what happens next!

If you're looking for a book that will draw you in immediately and have you on the edge of your seat, then Crucible is the perfect one for you. This is the first book in a new series from Franca, and it really was quite interesting. The characters are well developed and likeable, and they are all unique in their own way. This is a vigilante/crime syndicate base, and I'm honestly looking forward to reading the other books in this series.

CRUCIBLE by Franca Storm is the First book in Born to Sin trilogy. This is the story of Kara, Adam and Rick. There story does not end it this book and will continue on to other books. Kara is dealing with the loss of her father along with know there are secrets left. Rick is one of the leaders of the CSA who is wanting Kara along with wanting to keep her safe. Adam is the Commander of the Civilian Security Agency who also has an interest in Kara. I can't wait to read more in their story.

This book is action packed from start to cliffhanger-finish. For chapter one you’re thrown into the seedy side of Roburn city with warring groups set on control of the city, and fighting against that.
The characters are a complicated bunch, and I’m glad this is a trilogy so we get to slowly tease out their relationships. I’m very curious how book two will play out! I enjoyed book one and will definitely be coming back for more.

If you haven’t started with Kingmaker, definitely stop and do that first! It gives you insight into Adam Reid, and the origins of the CSA. Once you’ve gotten that far, you’ll dive into the world of Adam, Kara, and Rick.
Roughly a decade after the events of Kingmaker, Adam is still dealing with Tempest. Kara is introduced, and grieving the loss of her father, and the unhinged Rick is going to the beat of his own drum. Adam’s goal is to protect his town, and Kara, per the wishes of her father. Kara is determined to seek vengeance. And a Rick is determined to screw it all up, no matter the cost.

This is a good start to a new series and a complete different direction for Ms. Storm.
The characters are strong willed but likable. They protect the city that they are in and find love in a little ways. They fight their attraction for each other before letting go and having fun. The danger is real and the stress level is thur the roof.
The characters are strong willed but likable. They protect the city that they are in and find love in a little ways. They fight their attraction for each other before letting go and having fun. The danger is real and the stress level is thur the roof.

The first of a trilogy, Kara has come looking for revenge. There are two men willing to help her, one who wants to use her knowledge and power to help keep the town safe, the other who wants her for himself and to lead her into the darkness within herself. Adam and Nick are working toward the same goal but their friendship is being torn apart by their differing feelings about Kara.
This is a story full of intrigue, violence between two waring factions and a very hot obsession from a man who knows no bounds. Coupled with running theme of a town in danger of being engulfed by an organisation and the people working to stop that happening, this is a great story which leaves you with a cliff hanger and desperate to know what comes next. There are also a couple of great cameo appearances by characters from The Iron Kings series which adds an extra twist to the story.
The only reason I have only given 4 stars is I felt that there where a few places where the narrative was too long winded, could have been said without unnecessary description ie I don't need to know every last detail of the room they entered, just that they did and sometimes the characters musing went on for too long. That said that, it is of course just my opinion and I will repeat this is still a great story and I am now waiting for Book 2 to find out the result of where Franca has left us in that " OMG" moment. Also watch out for Kingmaker there is a link at the end of the book, it is a Prequel to the series and worth reading.

Adam gets really into the past that hurt him and takes on the demons that haunt his sleep, and the agression really comes out of him considering I observe him to be the most placid of the trio. Some delicious heavy hot fun in the woods - nature really comes into play with this scene. Rick's obsession over Kara is both arousing and a concern, as you are not certain during the read if he will turn out to be the bad guy or just a morally grey man in need of some serious psychiatric help...but you have to admit, the man is into some kinky stuff. By the end, we get our answer...or do we?
The ending was action packed with blood, glass, bullets and adrenaline...and we are left on a cliff hanger!

Ms. Storm is a new to me author. I always go in neutral minded when reading a book by an author I don’t know.
The blurb to the book caught my attention and I really wanted to read it.
I was intrigued from the start and the plot and storyline kept me interested.
The three main characters Kara, Adam and Rick are all complex characters with many layers to them.
Kara’s dad is murdered and now the same people who killed him are after her.
I admired Kara. She’s a strong and determined woman.
I also liked the mystery surrounding her and her “ instincts”.
Adam and Kara have a connection from years past. He’s determined to keep her safe at all costs.
Not only because her father was is mentor but he has feelings for her.
I really liked Adam. He gave off the vibe of don’t mess with me. A man of a little talk and a lot of action.
Rick is obsessed with Kara and wants her for himself.
He seems to be the dark horse in the story. But time will tell which direction he will take.
Lots of action and suspense throughout the story. Danger and violence with the different elements vying for power.
There is also lots of spicy and sexy scenes. Sizzling hot and wickedly delicious.
Ms. Storm left me breathless and stunned with that cliffhanger, can’t wait for Purgatory!

This book is unlike any other I've ever read. It's a vigilante / crime syndicate base centered around three main characters.
Adam is the Commander of the CSA, an above ground group who are trying to keep the citizens safe from the crime syndicate Tempest. He's ex-military and ex-police, recruited by his now deceased predecessor Jim to lead the group. He's tough, stoic and doesn't let his guard down.
Kara is Jim's daughter. She's been sheltered from everything by being sent away to school. She has no idea what her father really does, until after he passes away. Her grief makes her do things she wouldn't normally do, but it leads her down the path of finding out who she really is.

There's definitely a lot to unpack in this book and it kept me wanting more the entirety of the book. It wears its dark romance theme well and is a book with many triggers that should be checked before starting. The dynamic between the characters was one I am not quite used to and where I normally like the 'bad guy' I didn't in this book. I didn't realize this was part of a bigger universe with other series so I will be doubling back to read those now cause this book made me really love Franca Storm's writing style and I'm anxious to know what happens next cause that cliffhanger left me reeling for more.
Kara is something else. I think that everyone around should have got to know her from the beginning instead of labeling her as a damsel in distress. The only person who saw her for who she was was Rick. I really appreciated him because of that but it didn't take long for me to dislike him as a character and that stuck with me through the rest of the book. I really wish Kara and Adam would have had more scenes to get to know each other better. Even though he made decisions for her (which he had no right to) I think he really did have her best interest in mind.

Kara is grieving the loss of her father, and she knows that her family are harbouring secrets, and she wants to know what they are. Adam is dark and intense, and is a Commander of the Civilian Security Agency, and he wants to protect Kara, while Rick one of the leaders of CSA is haunted by demons, and he wants Kara at all costs, which he and Adam butt heads over.
This story ends in a doozy of a cliffhanger, and I cannot wait to read the next book!
This is a well written story which is an intense, action packed, emotional roller coaster, with danger, suspense, intrigue, secrets, family, friendships, loss, grieving, trust, and vengeance, which leads to an entertaining, tragic, twisted, and unpredictable, addictive page turner.

But when Adam saves her the first time he becomes her protector. The aim is to not let her find out everything about what her father has been doing. Get her to his funeral and back out to college safely. I don't know that I can go into too much about this book and not give something away. It starts out at a fast pace and keeps that pace until the very end. I loved Kara and Adam. Rick is another story. It took me a while because he is obsessed with her and I don't know that that was a good thing at times. I will say that the end of this book will have your heart racing and you are on the end of your seat breathless. I really can not wait to get the next book in my hands.

This book has a ton of action and revolves around 3 main people. There is a group that protects civilians from criminals in this town (vigilante justice.) Kara finds herself coming home after her dad died. Adam is the commander of this service. Rick works for Adam and owns a gym. This is what I think. One man wants to protect Kara while one man wants to fully corrupt Kara. One man is controlled while one man is completely wreckless. One man wants to teach Kara pleasure and pain while the other man just wants Kara to return to her old life. Both men are battling over Kara, her future, and what's right for her. I think Kara is stuck in the middle, not really knowing what she wants for herself. Until one man becomes beyond obsessed, because Kara is special. This is book 1 of 3, it ends on a pretty big cliffhanger. I'm curious to see what happens in the next book.

Wow! Honestly this book left me absolutely speechless! I would give it more stars if I could!!There is so much going on after Kara’s father passes and she learns so much about herself. There’s action, death, mystery, some seriously spicy moments, and a love triangle. I love the way the book is written from Adam, Kara, and Ricks point of view. Rick is seriously so brutal though which I felt bad for him because he really couldn’t help it. Definitely a very well written book that I didn’t want to put down, and I can’t wait for the next one in the series!!- Elizabeth

Kara's father set up the CSA (Civilian Security Agency) and is killed while with Adam. Adam promises to care for Kara who is adamant she wants to be a member of CSA. But no way will Adam will allow her. Kara being the kick a** heroine she is goes and finds someone else to train her Rick who owns a gym. She starts a relationship with Rick but discovers he is not a nice person. There is certainly plenty of action and suspense to keep you turning the pages.
I received an arc for my voluntary honest review for NNBB. If you love a story with plenty of suspense and action you will love this book. Ne warned this book ends on a cliff hanger and can't wait for the next book to see what happens next.

Intense. Suspenseful. Emotional! These three words not only describe this book but what is to come in this trilogy. We have three very intense characters. Each character has an emotional backstory that brings so much to the table. Then each chapter is more suspenseful than the last. Kara has just lost her father. She wants answers and she wants revenge. She has been in the dark for far to long, her family had big secrets and she wants to know them all. Adam has been to hell and back and lives in a dark place. He is the Commander of the Civilian Security Agency. He has seen a lot and done a lot. Right now his main job is to protect Kara. Keep her safe and out of the business she wants into so badly. Rick is one of the leaders at CSA and he has demons on top of demons. He is smitten with Kara and wants her at all costs. Rick and Adam butt heads over what’s wrong and what’s right. They are also fighting forces all around them. This is an intense who do we truly trust read. Who is the real bad guy here and why?! The cliffhanger was a doozy and now we wait and see…..

Kara, Adam and Rick. Rick is a complicated obsessedand rogue character that goes off the rails. But he wants Kara and will take out anything or anyone standing in his way. Adam is committed to protecting everyone and even tries to save Rick from doing more damage. This is so intense the lengths Rick goes to is unbelievable.so many suffer from his rage and then the cliffhanger leading to Purgatory.

Born into darkness.. Born to sin.. awesome read 🤓
Honestly I am a fan of Author Storm and her words.. I have never been disappointed and that is so true with this story. It definitely takes you on a world wind.. as I was reading, it felt like I was starting to watch a train wreck, what happens went from sin to darkness but I couldn’t look away. Rough. Dark. But engrossing all the same.
