Becky Jordan has had it with relationships. From now on her time and dedication won’t be lavished on her latest Mr. Wrong—or, worse, Mr. Hell-No!—just the dream travel job which has unexpectedly leapt into her lap. Finally, life is looking great.
Unfortunately, not as great as her sizzling-hot, take-charge new boss. Matt Frobisher is everything she doesn't want him to be, but if anyone thinks she'll risk her career on a workplace fling they can think again. No amount of Superman behaviour from him will make her roll over and play Lois.
At least, that's what her head says. Her heart, however, doesn't do logical. In desperation she finds herself a Mr. Distraction, one with no strings and plenty of appeal. But Mr. Distraction also comes with unforeseen complications. Kryptonite complications, like Becky’s sister. And when she shows up there’s only one sure thing: not even Superman can prevent the Disaster Fest that’s about to blow Becky’s life apart.
Hi there. I live in Christchurch, New Zealand (aka QuakeZone) with my partner, two children, and a snooty cat who thinks we're all her slaves. My days are spent running around after kids or doing one of my 'real' jobs, so my writing generally happens in the dead of night. (Morning? Ha! I'm a third-generation night owl. Enough said.)
I love chocolate, hate being cold, and am ever fascinated by the possibility of time travel. Obviously, my ideal experience would be to wake up on a tropical island eighty years into the future, with an endless supply of chocolate on hand.
There's nothing I love more than a good chat (except perhaps a good chat and chocolate--see the theme here?). So don't be shy--get in touch!
I started the book late in the evening and read until I finished it early the next morning. It is hard to go to sleep when you are laughing at the hilarity that is in this book.
The words that Maggie Le Page uses are perfect to stimulate laughter. The scenes are funny and so realistic. There are some wonderful characters in the story that enhance Becky’s life. Characters like Jim and Liz help Becs as she barrels her way through bad choices and worse lies. There are several characters that cause her a lot of hurt. I leave it to you to sort them all out.
Becky Jordan has just gotten over an embarrassing interoffice relationship that left her humiliated and for the new year’s resolution she is swearing off men. Then she finds herself in the presence of a real live hero. When the fantasy and the reality of the hero gets blurred, she finds herself running away from him and running into him all the time.
Matt Frobisher is a good looking should I say, a very good looking man that has sworn to be a bachelor his entire life. The entire office knows this about him and accepts it. When the new girl in the office finds out who he is, she is so shocked and the more she finds out about him the more enamored she becomes. All the while fighting herself. Then Becky chooses to make a monumental mistake. This is where the trouble starts in earnest.
This book is fun, hilarious, and tender. It also made me sad to see what can happen when people are not honest and listen to bad advice from their friends. There is also such growth and maturity that takes place, making it a very emotional book.
This book was so stupid and insipid; I can't believe I actually plodded through the whole thing. About a third of the way through I almost tossed but kept thinking that any page now it would get better - it didn't. Then about two thirds the book I almost tossed it again but thought that now she dump that putz Matt and left to start over again somewhere else that it would finally start getting better - it didn't. What a waste of time!
At the end of the book, the author mentions that she's going to write two more books for the series and I started laughing thinking "what the hell for".
Becky Jordan was done with men. She has had one bad relationship after another. Then one day while swimming in a pool, she is knocked on the head and hits the pool’s wall. She is knocked out and almost drowns, but luck was on her side and a sexy man with a chocolate voice saves her. She is then whisked off to the hospital without finding out just who this man was.
A few days later she starts her new dream job only to find out that Mr. Sexy Chocolate Voice is none other than her new boss. Now this causes a problem for her, because she is very attracted to him and she does not want to have a relationship with her boss. This job means too much for her to mess it up by getting involved with him.
As the story moves along, we watch her struggle with her attraction to her boss Matt. He seems to be attracted to her too, even if he's a confirmed bachelor. I loved how Matt seemed to be in the right place at the right time to help her out with certain circumstances. Then Becky did something I felt was really terrible to fight her attraction for Matt. It made me angry and I felt she was too stupid to live. Because of her stupidity, Becky’s life ends up spinning out of control. Things just seemed to get even worse for her at this point. I may not have liked what she did, but because of it the story took a turn, and I found her actions at this point making the story even more interesting to read. We got to read about her struggle to start a new life and career. What was really special is, that we watched Becky grow into a stronger person. To tell the truth, I did not like her much until this part of the story. There were a few more things that held me back from loving this story. While I understood Becky’s attraction to Matt, I just did not understand his attraction to her. I felt they didn't spend enough time together for them to REALLY fall in love.
I felt the ending was just too abrupt, and it really could have been so much more if an epilogue would have been included.
A Heat of The Moment Thing was a good read for me, but not great. The story line was VERY interesting and it kept me turning the pages. The author also did a fantastic job with writing her characters; I felt this is where Maggie Le Page’s talents really shined through; they were all truly unique characters and it added a lot to the overall enjoyment of this read.

A heat of the moment thing” was a fabulous read. I identified with Becky’s disastrous love life as if it was my own. What really hit a cord with me was that Becky, wasn’t perfect, she made her mistakes and paid the consequences- just like in real life. That is what endeared “A heat of the moment thing” to me, it wasn’t based in some fairy realm where everything works out magically; this was set in reality, where we have to work our bums off to get what we want. I loved the writing style of the book. Becky’s first person narrative, it made her leap from the page and feel like real person. Although, Becky did some things I may not agree with, the novel was so well written – I immediately understood why she did those things and empathized with her. “A heat of the moment thing” isn’t just your run of the mill chick lit book, it is a refreshing, witty, humorous novel that many of us will relate too from being there ourselves. Becky sure made me laugh and go down memory lane to revisit my own relationship disasters. Maggie Le Page’s stunning debt is a must read. It is perfect for fans of Jenny Colgan and Sophie Kinsella. I highly recommend this enjoyable light-hearted read.
I couldn't put this book down. I loved the main character and the opening chapter made me laugh out loud, with more of these funny moments shown throughout the book. the story incorporates a lot of chick lit situations. Will be reading the Maggie Le Page's next book definitely!
I was giving this book from the author in exchange for a review. I would give this book a 3.5/5. I wish we could do half stars on goodreads. It was an entertaining, quick, easy read. I enjoyed reading the book and cared enough about the characters to get annoyed with Becky, the main character, for some of her assumptions and choices she made. I enjoyed the romance between Becky and Matt and appreciated that the author didn't feel the need to turn the romance into book porn, like so many other romance novels these days. I think most women would really enjoy reading this book. I would rate it higher but I got stuck on . Overall I did enjoy the book and appreciate the opportunity to read it.
Ms. Le Page wrote a great book. The first chapter, probably not intended to be was hilarious. A great way to meet the hero of the story without realizing it until she shows up to work. The way she shrugged off knowing him was comical. I enjoyed the building of their relationship rather than what has become the norm with lust being confused for love. Matt being a realistic character, none of the bad boy attributes. He was a very sweet, caring likable character with a heart of gold. I do wish that it had delved more into his family life; where was his mother, where did she leave to that he became guardian to Stef? I loved how Becky was witty and strong; she had a tendency to overthink and make situations more difficult than necessary. Which all of us have been guilty of. Becky became a very real character whom I could relate to without any difficulty. The way Becky tried to avoid any type of intimate relationship with Matt was hilarious at times. Choosing to put work before relationships; especially with her boss was a sound decision. Especially since she'd been burnt by a similar experience. The tension between them only helped to establish that their feelings were more than just lust. I found myself staying up to finish the story of Becky & Matt. The twist of Charlie and Dani was funny and proved that one mistake can make your whole world come crashing down. The way Becky left it all behind, to me, felt a little selfish I wanted her to fight harder. However, after the way she changed and grew as a person while being away from London in the end it was the best thing for her. It gave her time to find out who she is; which couldn't hurt anyone. A great read; thank you Maggie for the opportunity to review your book!
Wow and Wow I rather enjoyed reading this book a lot and now that i finished the story I'm really hoping for another one to leading to what happens after Becky and Matt get together again. I got upset when Becky was upset I felt like i was living it with her, right down to the part I thought the bus crash was the end. I really enjoyed the times that Becky and Matt all most had the sex encounters I was on the edge of my chair just waiting for it to happen and then when it didn't I was bummed but when it did finally happen I was so shocked and excited for more I didn't want to put the book down it was that good. I didn't like that fact about her sister slapping her that gave her no right but in the long run I'm sure everyone can relate someway to Becky. Maggie did an awesome job writing this book it was sad, funny and had a dangerous side to it that was great I'm looking forward to read more by Maggie. I found myself loving that Becky had a a guy roommate who to me was down right funny I laughed at all the things he said to Becky, Matt was great loved that he had a nice caring heart didn't like that he wouldn't listen to Becky in Dublin glad they got over it in the end!! well kind of over it. Charles what a joke like he comes out of no where and just ruins Becky's life well the good parts she had going for her and for what nothing!! Liz she reminded me of a wise lady who had her stuff well put together, Dani I didn't care for her she was a B***h and if that was my sister I probably would have never forgave her for slapping me that was just not right let alone Becky was heartbroken and all her sister cared about was herself just plain rude, Becky she was a great person and loved reading about how she tried to get over the mix up, she was a strong character, loving and funny in her own way.
First off I absolutely loved loved loved this book.
This book is about Becky who has a accident at the beginning of the book and her hero turns out to be her new boss. She falls head of heels for him and can't even take a slight touch from him without sparks flying. As much as she tries to avoid him it is impossible to and each encounter the feelings add up. Becky hasn't had much lucky in the romance field and tried to make every excuse that Matt isn't good for her and she vowed she wouldn't create another work romance after her last ex-boyfriend. Matt on the other hand is the perfect gentlemen that all woman want but also has baggage of his own between a short lived engagement and wheelchair bound brother you would think he wouldn't fall for Becky. Becky sure tried to make every excuse not to love him but she knew she couldn't and began to let her guard down and let him enter her life. Pretty much all of her past relationships turned ugly but something told her that Matt was different - he seemed genuine for her. A past boyfriend from high school joins the picture and it makes you question Becky's next move, it keeps you active and drawing you into the story for find out what happens next. Some twists and turned make you want to not out this book down!
It may seem like your typical chick lit/romance where a girl falls in love with the drop dead gorgeous man but of course misunderstanding leads them apart but this book had a well balance romance plus story line. Sometimes books that involve a lot of romance tend to forget about adding a story and I found this to be a perfect balance of both.
Thankful I had a chance to have a read of this book and looking forwards to the authors next book. :)
A Heat Of The Moment Thing by Maggie Le Page is a nice change from the average romance novel! I immediately took to Becky and her almost comical way of looking at life. She is fairly insecure and seems to be a little impulsive at times. She gets herself into situations that make you want to laugh and feel bad for her at the same time. The incident at the pool had me thinking that she was going to die, get amnesia or maybe the story was starting at the end- but it was actually a great way to initially introduce “Mr. Chocolate”- her hero. Then starting new job just days later and finding that her hero Mr. Chocolate voice is her new boss Matt- just perfect! I could picture myself in Becky’s shoes completely ready to melt away! I love the interactions that the characters have with each other. Their conversations (and arguments) let each personality show and I love when an author is able to give distinct personalities and keep them clear. For example Dani is completely different from Becky and reminds me of a sassy character from Sex in the City. Jim, Becky’s house mate has a sense of humor that lets his spirit show- which is a little twisted if one would ask me, but that is Jim. Now for the romance part, Maggie Le Page has a way of stirring emotions which give more life to the story. Things get warm, dead cold, then steaming hot. It’s definitely a story that takes you on a nice journey instead of just pushing the character to bed someone. At the end, Becky gets her man? You’ll have to read it to find out. This is definitely a page turner that I would recommend to be read.
In A Heat of the Moment Thing by Maggie Le Page, Becky Jordan experiences an embarrassing near-death incident. A gorgeous, charming man saves her life. Even though she wants to see him again, the last place she expects to see him is at her new dream job…as her new boss. Becky can’t deny her attraction to Matt, but she is determined to avoid a workplace romance. Been there, done that. In an attempt to forget about the obvious chemistry between them, Becky finds a guy to distract her, but this leads to unforeseen consequences that will ultimately have a huge impact on her life.
This book was equally amusing and heartwarming. There were hysterical moments where I was literally laughing out loud and other touching moments where my heart did a little pitter-patter. While the last quarter of the book seemed a little slow-paced and the ending seemed abrupt, the rest of the book was borderline perfect. The plot was entertaining and the characters were unforgettable. And the absolute best part was the romance between Becky and Matt. It was believable and incredibly sweet. Even though there were intimate scenes, Maggie Le Page does an excellent job of creating sensual moments without them being overly erotic, which isn’t commonplace these days and is refreshing to see. While romance is definitely prominent in this story, A Heat of the Moment Thing is also about a woman finding herself and learning to follow her heart. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot wait to read more from this talented author.
What a fantastic debut novel! This is the story of Becky--a girl just like any other girl who is self-conscious about her hair, has a quirky flatmate, is starting a new job, is clumsy at times, and who has been hurt in the past. Just about everything that can happen, happens to this girl (in no particular order): accidentally prints out a "What is your ideal man like?" quiz on the public work copy machine, swims into the concrete wall at the public pool, gets hit on by the office perv, has all kinds of sibling jealousy/rivalry issues, moves away after being hurt, finds a new and completely unique job cleaning windows on high-rises, a bus accident, lots of coffee, wine, and some Guinness......this book has everything! The characters are very real and have real problems. Matt is an incredible hero figure who I absolutely loved. I wished that Becky and Matt would have come right out and had conversations about dating, commitment, their pasts, etc. Would have saved them a lot of trouble, but then we wouldn't have much of a story, now would we?
Overall, a well-written debut. Pacing was good. Very simple writing, but in a witty way. I will be keeping an eye out for Maggie's next book!

I have just one word to describe Maggie's book: AMAZING.
When I first started reading it I honestly thought it was going to be like every otger chick lit book, but I was so mistaken. It's funny, it's romantic and it has a lot of relatable situations. I, too, work at an office, and I, like Becky, have to face awkward situations and meet deadlines and deal with hot guys. Maggie does an extraordinary job describing them all. She doesn't use complicated words and her writing is for everyone.
The only three things I didn't like very much were these: she uses 'bloody' too much for my liking; the second one is when she runs away. I guess there are a lot af situations that could've been avoided so the book would be shorter. The third and final thing was the ending. We all know that the main characters are gonna end up together no matter what (that's the beauty of chick lit) but this one was very rush.
In spite of these three things, I loved the book so much because it has just the right amount of everything and I had to stay awake till three or four in the morning just so I could read more of it. Plus Maggie herself is very nice and sweet.
This book is a must-read, must-buy and must-recommend. Seriously. If this doesn't become a best seller, the world doesn't make sense, then.
Becky Jordan has an accident in the swimming pool and is rescued by a chocolate-voiced dish of a man. At home, with her slob of a housemate Jim, she wishes she’d captured Chocolate’s name and phone number. She starts her new job as a travel lecturer and discovers her boss is… Guess who? But they’re both damaged and find it hard to trust, particularly when Charlie, a man from Becky’s past, intrudes.
I knew from the first page that here is someone who can write. I was immediately interested in Becky; I cared about her. I was amazed how quickly this was achieved. The incident in the pool is clever: a slight misdirection. Becky’s insecurity in her new role is convincingly expressed: “I’d been trying to do a job I had no hope of performing effectively.” She suffers hard lessons but gains in strength.
Maggie Le Page shows sensitivity and understanding of the way people think and behave. There’s a gentle underlying humour together with comic, LOL moments, but it’s not just chick-lit, by a long chalk. I really wanted to find out what happened next. Surprises, shocks, the pain of love gone awry. The writer cares for her characters, and so do I. I wanted to know what happened next, for them to be all right and happy. But do they? Read the book!
** Received a copy of the book for an honest review **
I really enjoyed A Heat Of The Moment Thing. It was funny, witty and well written. It kind of reminded me of the Shopaholic series by Sophia Kinsella, and that's high praise! What I liked best about the book was that the characters were real. You saw them suffer through normal, everyday problems and true life situations. We can actually see how the main character grows in a a personal way before the conclusion of the book and I find that this was one of the things that I really enjoyed. It is not a meet, fall in love, HEA kind of book. It is a meet (in a really funny way), interact, deal with real issues (in a really funny way :)) and ... you'll have to read it to find out! The only thing that I didn't like was that we don't actually see the relationship progress. I love books where we as a reader fall in love with the characters as they fall in love with themselves and can actually be part of the love story. This is not one of those. There is interaction between the characters but not deep enough for you see them falling in love. Anyway, highly recommended... hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Becky Jordan, the main character of A Heat of the Moment Thing, seems to be a very confused woman. She has her goals, even if they are completely sidetracked by her libido and misadventure. It begins when she is briefly hospitalized after nearly drowning in her local public pool. Her rescuer turns out to a dreamboat, and none other than her new boss.
She tries to avoid entanglements with him, gets herself into some awkward situations ripe for rescue all over again. Unfortunately, there are two other men who complicate her love life, one a scoundrel who seduces her, and the other, a co-worker with lecherous intentions. In the end, Becky has no choice but to run away from it all. It's at this point she truly discovers who she is. A happy ending followed.
Maggie le Page writes in a fluid humorous style, and describes the London of Becky's world beautifully. Her characters leap off the page, and the story has enough momentum to keep you turning pages.
I read the excerpt of this book for the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Contest Quarter Finals and fell in love with it. I immediately bought the book and jumped in with both feet. Becky is an engaging heroine, quickly whisking us into her complicated world of relationship baggage along with career aspirations, all the while coveting her gorgeous boss, Matt. Maggie Le Page’s sense of humor is spot on and I thoroughly enjoyed not only the witty dialogue but also the steamy scenes between Becky and Matt. I was so engrossed in their story that my Kindle came with me everywhere I went for two days, on the off chance that I would have five minutes to spare. (Did I mention that my house was a mess and my kids got just a little extra tv time?) Grab a glass of wine and a generous serving of chocolate and settle yourself down with Maggie Le Page’s debut novel. You are in for a thrilling ride!
Remember that feeling when a relationship is new? The butterflies in your stomach, the zing you get with every touch whether accidental or intentional? This book gives you those feelings. I'll admit it took me a bit to get into the story, but it wasn't long until I was sucked in and could not put it down. In fact, I ignored my family and home and just read. It was a fabulous escape. The characters were well defined and the blossoming feelings between reluctant Becky (she'd been screwed over in an office romance before) and her hot boss Matt, were exciting and filled with so many zing moments that I had to go back and reread a couple just so I could feel the zings again.
This book, unlike most chick lit, was not predictable. It took a turn that I wasn't expecting and kept going with it, yet it gave me the ending I wanted. Highly recommended read! Can't wait to read more from Ms. Le Page!
This book was very interesting and intriguing, Becky and Matt were so adorable together. I felt like their relationship was believable and real. At first she tries to run away from him, making excuses so she didn't have to be with him. Some parts had me laughing so hard. Love the unpredictable moments of the book, that is what kept my interest. Maggie debut book was truly amazing and heart warming. Do I recommend this book to my book friends?? Well yes I would.
(Sorry was behind on my reviews for this book)
Story Line I gave 4.75 Stars Character Growth I gave 5 Stars Originality I gave 5 Stars Overall I gave 5 Stars
I identified with Becky immediately. Not because I hit my head against a swimming pool wall, and got rescued by a Mr Chocolate Voice, but rather in her believable struggles with life and love.
When Becky starts a new job, she discovers Mr Delicious himself is her boss. Despite the immediate attraction she feels for him, she's determined not to fall for her boss. Of course she does. Mishaps and misunderstandings ensue with plenty of laugh out loud moments.
The author has done a fantastic job of creating two-dimensional characters. I especially enjoyed the character of her roommate, Jim. Hilarious! I am looking forward to reading more from Maggie Le Page.
This is my friend, Maggie, who manages to write really great chick lit while balancing more demands in her life than anyone I know! This is a great fun read, about a couple who should obviously be together but can't quite get there. I hesitate to use the word 'root' but you are on the side of Becky and Matt from the start. They are decent, flawed - in other words real - human beings, as are the rest of the supporting cast. The story features spoiled sisters, Malteser tossing, high rise window cleaning and a cat. Oh, and romance and a bit of raunch, too :)
really liked the heroine, Becky. Ms. Le Page does a fabulous job of delivering real characters, with real fears. I loved that Becky is faced with true to life situations that in my misspent younger days, I too faced. The hero, Matt, was worthy of hero status and I totally related to trying to ignore the relationship developing between them because he was her boss. We've probably all been there! But most of all I loved the witty writing and the fast pacing of the story. Great read. I look forward to more books by this author.
I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review. I have to say for a debut novel Ms Le Page did an excellent job. I would have given 3.5 stars if I could have. I found myself getting really involved with Becky and Matt and almost getting mad at Becky at times for her choices and for putting herself in some interesting situations and then not handling them very well. By the end of the book I was rooting for her. Matt's character was such a super nice man and I loved that he wasn't some egotistical guy. The story is a quick read and overall well done.
I really enjoyed A Heat of the Moment Thing. I could relate to Becky and some of the situations she found herself in. Matt's a caring soul who holds his cards close to his chest, but comes through with the goods when he has too! A charming romp through the English countryside added to the charm of the book - especially from one who hails from the Homeland. A great debut from Ms Le Page, I'm looking forward to reading more of her work.
I was given a free copy of this book for an honest review. Personally I really enjoyed this book, overall I thought the characters were very well written and easy to connect to. I thought the storyline was fairly original and I was kept laughing at a lot of the antics, although the more serious moments added a nice dose of reality to the story. Overall I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more!
This book starts out as a light, funny romance but morphs into a story about a woman having to pull herself up by her bootstraps and fix all she has wrecked because of her impulsive mistakes and her even more impulsive reactions to her mistakes. The silly hijinx are a delight to read, and Becky's metamorphosis in the second half of the book is beautiful to witness. A fun read, a thoughtful read, a satisfying read!
This is a beautiful love story about finding yourself as much as it is about finding Mr Right. Becky has made mistakes in the past and because she is unable to let them go, her future happiness is at risk. She needs to forgive herself or she might miss out on the perfect man for her. It also has a few hilarious moments and is a smooth read, crafted by a very skilled writer. I will definitely be chasing more Maggie Le Page.
