In reality, very few people really did know Elvis. Ed, often referred to by Elvis, as "my second daddy" was such a person. As the fierce-eyed, silver-streaked Kenpo combatant stepped forward in 1978, he resolved to tell his story. Ed was the man Elvis chose as his strong right arm, a true brother, friend, confidant, as well as Elvis' protective companion.
Ed had enjoyed seventeen years of close, personal association with Elvis Presley. Frequently traveling together, Ed observed, listened, and understood as they shared their personal confidences and innermost feelings with one another. He had a wealth of insights and anecdotes about his close friend and was determined to share those insights in an incredible backstage look at one of the most famous men in the world--a man millions admired, thousands worshipped, but only a handful knew or understood.
Still in a state of grief, he wrote of the loss of his "friend" Elvis; and shared insights into the King's on stage genius, his lifestyle, generosity, views on religion and life as well as his inner thoughts. He was deeply impressed by Elvis' character, charisma, loyalty, intellect, organizational skills and above all, his humility.
Many years earlier, Elvis, had nicknamed Ed, "Kahuna" (a Hawaiian word meaning high priest). Now Elvis' "Kahuna" had an opportunity to write from the heart, capturing many of the Christ-like characteristics Elvis exhibited, through his simple faith and unselfish caring. As a result of this interesting, intimate, insightful work, Ed was invited on a book tour by the Elvis Presley Fan club to share his feelings in person. From that time forth, he began to develop strong ties and bonds of friendship with dedicated and sincere Elvis fans around the world. A warm relationship that remained strong and continued to develop up until Ed's untimely death in December 1990. This book was 5th on the best seller list in America and number 3 in the South.
I could not put this book down. Ed Parker wrote a very loving book about Elvis the man, the friend, the brother he had in Elvis Presley. Through Ed you take the journey through a loving friendship that lasted decades until Elvis passes away. This is by far one of the best books I have read about the King!!!
It's really through Ed's eyes that you see the true Aloha Spirit that one Hawaiian Kahuna shares with another great King. RIP Great Kahuna, Uncle Ed, Sr. Mahalo and Aloha.
In my experience very rarely do we get to see life inside of Elvis world other than those who want to make a "buck" with sensational stories, not all but some!
I couldnt put this book down, I have read 100's concerning Elvis, I admit that I had dismissed and overlooked this one, Ed is possibly overlooked and rarely mentioned but please read it, you will truly love this book and come out with a greater understanding of Elvis.
In my opinion this book and its author, really capture Elvis the man. Ed didn't, as far as I recall go around "bragging" of his time with Elvis but here he captures the very essence of their "friendship" and gives honest recollection of special moments they shared that really tell you WHO Elvis was!
This book was truly a heartfelt warming tribute to the man Elvis really was. Mr. Parker's account of their times together were interesting to read; felt like the reader was right there also. Truly this book is a must read for the true Elvis Presley fan. Highly recommend.
Ed Parker writes about an intimate relationship with his true dear friend! He talks about their experiences and feelings! One of the best books I’ve read about Elvis! A very good book!!
This book is so heart wrenching. When I finished I sat and cried because he was gone. I have read so many books about Elvis but this is a story about the real man. His loyalty, his generosity and his love for everyone.
Brilliant informative revelations that demystify the untruths and highlight the truths about the icon that was the star. Well written and conveyed in an honest portrayal of someone so loved
