Hidden deep in the woods of a sleepy little southern town is a cabin whose back room has witnessed unimaginable horrors.
Skipping school with his girlfriend, Scott Billings discovers the body of a recently murdered woman and finds himself plunged into a waking nightmare. Jack Mitchell, New Orleans homicide detective recently relocated to Comfort, Alabama, takes lead on the investigation, soon finding himself drawn to Scott and personally touched by the difficult life boy has led. After word gets out that Scott is responsible for finding the body, Scott’s mother, Alice, disappears and a frantic manhunt uncovers a second brutalized corpse. Can Jack locate Alice before she meets the same vicious fate? Can he hunt down the sadistic killer, or is this the one the detective can’t track? Jack’s wits and skills are put to the test and the ticking of the clock against him could very well be the sound of Alice’s last breath.

***I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review***
It would be very easy to accidentally give something away in this book so I am not going to go into any detail to make sure I don’t ruin it for anyone.
This was a page-turner!! It had mystery and suspense throughout the book. There were many twists and many times where I found myself screaming NOOOO! in my head. This was so well written that I was unable to figure out the mystery and often times felt my hear racing and my stomach turning with anticipation. Most of the time I can guess where the storyline is going but the author kept me guessing throughout.
I actually burned dinner and KNEW it was getting ruined but couldn’t stop reading because I needed to know what was going to happen. You MUST read to the very last sentence in the book. When I got to that, I literally had to go back and read it again to make sure I wasn’t mistaken.
Even after reading this book, I am still mumbling out loud - WOW! This is the type of book that I want to go running to a friend that has read it and just start talking about it. But this isn’t the type of book you could talk calmly about – there was so much going on this is a hands waving talking over each other type of conversation. I cannot emphasize enough how great this book was!
