In this second book of the Locked Within Trilogy, hope has returned to New York City. Nathan Shepherd leads a small band of dedicated fighters against the Council of Chains and the city’s supernatural masters. But it’s not enough. Because from the shadows of Nathan’s former lives comes an old enemy, one who knows terrible secrets that Nathan has not yet remembered, secrets that could undo everything he has fought for.
Nathan’s only chance to uncover the memories of his previous existence, and to conquer these new forces of evil, lies in Elena DeSantis. A woman he has fought beside in past lifetimes. A woman he has loved.
Together, Nathan and Elena are the only future the city has.
A child at heart who turned to writing and roleplaying games when there simply weren’t enough action figures to play out the stories he wanted, Paul Anthony Shortt has been writing all his life.
He believes in magic and monsters. In ghosts and fairies. The creatures that lurk under the bed and inside the closet. The things that live in the dark, and the heroes who stand against them. Above all, he believes that stories have the power to change the world, and the most important stories are the ones which show that monsters can be beaten.
He lives in Ireland with his wife Jen and their dogs, Pepper and Jasper. Their first child, Conor William Henry Shortt, was born on July 11th, 2011. He passed away three days later, but brought love and joy into their lives and those of their friends.
The following year, Jen gave birth to twins, Amy and Erica. Their fourth child, Olivia, was born in January, 2014.
Silent Oath by Paul Anthony Shortt is the sequel to last year's Locked Within. The books tell the story of Nathan Shephard, a reborn who can use memories of previous lives to give him strength and power. I literally just finished reading Silent Oath and wanted to write this review right away! Why? Silent Oath is fantastic! Paul Anthony Shortt turned up the heat, ignited the nitrous oxide, and brought everything along with the kitchen sink for this book!
Nathan Shephard is still trying to fight the good fight and protect the people of New York from evil, but this time he not only has the Council of Chains watching him, but a goddess and an enemy from his past lives to deal with, all the while trying to prevent a supernatural army from starting a war in the city. Sound like too much for one man to handle? Enter an excellent cast of supporting characters for Silent Oath, some who return from the first book, and some new faces! I could easily picture every character's face as the scene played out. Even during heavy action sequences it was easy for me to follow which character was doing what.
Silent Oath builds up to an action-packed finale, one that I couldn't stop reading. I kept finding myself turning the pages, wanting more no matter where I was or what I was doing. Now that I've finished, all I want to do is dive into the next book which isn't out yet!
“I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.”
Mr. Shortt has done it again. I loved the way he let you see the other characters perspectives, he didn’t just follow Nathan. Refreshing to say the least. Honestly, he had me hooked from the first page. I loved just about every second of this read. You not only get to see how much Nathan has grown as a person and as the hero but you get a glimpse at every other character’s growth as well. And the new characters were completely welcome as were the twists...
I don't write many reviews, but for this book I had to. I read it expecting a good read with a few twists and turns to keep me interested and occasionally knock me off my feet, which is what I experienced with Locked Within, the first book in the series. I was blown away. I mean the first book was good, but the second was amazing. There was not a single page that didn't have me eager to read on, not a single scene where I wasn't engaged. Mr Shortt has stepped up his game and left me extremely eager to read his next book and find out where this story goes.
Nathan's back and he's BadAss!!! All of the questions from Locked Within get answered and a whole new set get raised... I followed Nathan as he continues to protect the city and remembers who he really is. I got to meet new characters and reacquaint with old friends. A must read and I can't wait for book 3. Bring it on Mr Shortt!!!
